They beat the ever loving piss out of that truck but haven’t lost yet . lol
They expect the Rivian and the F-150 Lightning to dethrone it though .

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
I can understand buying a Toyota if it also makes you happy enough and has most of the features you want plus good resale. If it doesn't trip your trigger at all though, don't buy a car just because it depreciates less than other cars.

When we were last looking to buy I wanted a sport sedan with around 350hp-400hp that could seat 4 real adults and haul actual luggage in the trunk. Plus it needed to be serviceable under warranty locally. That ruled out Lexus, and most other foreign luxury brands competing in the nominal $50K range car meeting those criteria. Toyota didn't and continues to make nothing close, instead offering soul crushing boring ass Camry's of various sizes and ride heights (yes I know they have different model names but they're all lame as hell to drive).

So I didn't even give Toyota a chance, resale values or not, they don't make any interesting to drive 4 door vehicles at all. Not one. They didn't in 2015 and they still don't. After a few test drives and some searching I bought the only 2015 Chevrolet SS in the state of South Dakota that I could find for sale, it's been reliable, and is a great sport sedan reminding me a great deal of the E39 BMW M5 which was the last of the great M5's before BMW lost the plot. Ironically 6 years later that SS can be sold for about what I paid for it, so I accidentally bought a car that was gaining value in the pre-owned market around 2019 and post COVID idiocy sells for about MSRP 6 years ago for a car in good condition.

The advice to buy what puts a smile on your face is the best advice given you are in a financial position to do so, sounds like you are: so go punish some tires and dead dinosaurs!

Tough to say, if I could get enough value in trade and could get MSRP on Cadillac with the Blackwing V8 I’d consider it.

A Ram Classic is an entirely different cab than a normal Ram 1500 though. The classic is just the pre-2019 cab.

Andre's Powerboost gave it a run for its money recently. It actually had it off the line and then the TRX slowly came back, but not even by a full truck length.

TRX is down 17% on power in Denver whereas a Powerboost is still making the full 430, is 1000 lbs lighter, and on much smaller/lighter tires.

And yes, the Rivian should smoke the Ram since it also makes full power. At that elevation the Rivian probably has 250hp on the Ram. The Lighting will probably be a close race as I bet they weigh about the same and make similar power.

The Rivian and Lightning will; however, suck an entire bag of dicks the minute you hook a trailer on and set out on any trip exceeding 100 miles.

Have you seen the website with the bag of dicks gummies you can send to people? Hilarious.

I've thought about sending some to my coworkers a few times.

If that didn't happen then Rivian may as well have packed up shop.

Respectfully, I disagree. It certainly would've given credence to the pro ICE truck crowd, but I highly doubt that Rivian GARA about that demographic.
Rivian's target demographic are going to buy an R1T whether it's faster than a Ram TRX or not.

If I had F U money and wanted a truck just for fun, I’d pick the Rivian over the TRX in a heartbeat.

Fortunately, I do have the money, but need and want Rivian's 'Max Pack' 400 mile range battery, which isn't currently available. If I end up getting a 2022 Tundra, it may end up being a place holder until I can switch to a BEV truck with more than 400 mile range. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Ram TRX, Ford Raptor or any other 4 wheeled phalus.

Lol at 4 wheeled phalus. And great for you—you really seem to have been a good steward of your resources. I’m attempting to do the same, and at this point (fairly young with three young kids), I’m not going to throw my money at a 3rd vehicle that I would keep around for fun. That would be in direct conflict with the plans I have for my money and the future. But I digress…

And at this point, I would not choose the Rivian or the TRX as a primary vehicle. But for fun? The Rivian all day.

Pretty sure he's talking about having all the torque at 0 RPM. Given that condition, shouldn't an electric beat an ICE in a (short) drag race every time?

It’s a fast truck but most EV’s are. Has anyone taken the Rivian off road? The Ram is a huge truck compared to that Rivian and a beast off-road.the Rivian looks more like a Ridgeline.

I would say, it would depend on the BEV. While they may all share the same torque curve, they don't all produce the same amount of torque. They also don't weigh the same.
A better comparison would've been a BEV with an ICE that has the exact same torque, tires and curb weight. It'd be interesting to see the impact of the BEV torque curve over a 1/4 mile in this case.

The R1T has been driven off-road across the US by Motortrend and from South America to LA by the show Long Way Up. Search for the videos, it's incredible what this little truck can do in my opinion.

The TRX’s size actually works against it offroad. I offroad a full-size, and at times I miss my 4Runner. A shorter wheelbase makes more use out of your clearance and is better for turning on narrower trails. This is why most people are reluctant to take a full size truck down Black Bear Pass. That road was not cut into the mountain with modern full-size trucks in mind. It was more for Jeep sized vehicles. You want narrower and shorter wheelbase.

I’m interested (and maybe there is video showing performance) in how these EVs will handle sand / soft dirt. The Rivian weighs as much or more than a Tundra in a smaller package with 2.5x the torque. Sounds like a recipe for digging holes in soft terrain unless they worked some magic into the power management.

btw, not saying a TRX is any better in the same conditions. :hattip:

The Rivian can offroad, but if you watch, it does not do it very gracefully. Basically they brute force it to be good by giving it the air suspension that can lift it way up, but if you watch it spends a lot of time on 3 tires, flopping around, because it has very little suspension travel. There is a video of hells revenge and, while it makes it up, its not pretty. A stock 4Runner can do that with more grace.

The other thing I don't love is that it cannot have anything less than a 20" wheel. The new Land Rover Defender has the same issue. TFL took it up a rocky trail in colorado and I believe they blew out 2 tires, had to leave the truck, and come back the next day with replacements. When you are smashing a 7000+ lb truck through rocks, you don't want a 20" wheel, you want a small wheel with a large sidewall.

This idea that the Rivian is superior in every way to anything else is not true. It does a few things well, and a lot of stuff not so well. Bascially, anything truck related it kinda sucks at. And anything you could do better with a car(handling, speed, stopping) its decent at.

That Doug dude's video is not the video to watch it you're curious about the R1T's off-road capabilities in my opinion. Check out Motortrend's online articles and videos reporting on their coast to coast US off-road trip.

Not that anyone asked or cares, but I don't think the R1T is superior in every way to anything else.

I mean i talked about other videos in my post. I have watched a few. Nothing about it driving on anything more than a dirt road seems particularly impressive.

If you wanna wheel, get a truck meant for wheeling. Rubicon, ZR2, TRX, Raptor, etc, will all do a much better job.

Any idea what limits it to 20" wheels?
