Ongoing Tundra Recall: Anyone Know More?

Update: The recall kits are now available in Canada my wait finally ended on Saturday when I picked up the Pro from the dealer (7 weeks after when I was supposed to pick it up).

Here is a shot of it just before taking it home.

Got my Recall Remedy letter today. I'm in SoCal. I actually brought it in over the past weekend for it's first servicing, and I asked about the recall remedy. I was the first truck that that dealer performed the fix on. I got the truck fixed before i got the letter.

 

Got my remedy letter yesterday. Called service and they said parts are on back order and not to expect them for 30 days or so.

 

I took my truck in for state inspection about three weeks ago and they ordered the parts then. The dealer emailed me yesterday telling me the parts were in and to call and schedule an appointment to have the recall work completed. I think I'll wait a few weeks ... I don't want to be their guinea pig since I've read a few other dealers had a hard time getting it right.

 

Just out of curiousity, does this replace the bumper ends as well? (They are stock Color matched)

Some dipshit dinged the driverside while parallel parking and took off. Didn't get his license plate unfortunately so want to avoid my deductible!

 

Tundra called me. I have appointment this Friday.. said they're taking out plastic clips and w/e..

I'm curious if replacing is part of the job. If not I want to buy a replacement color matched because of the ding from someone who couldn't get out of his parking spot cleanly lol... left him plenty of room too...

 

TheyRe not replacing the bumper. They're replacing pieces inside the bumper. Clips. You'll have the same bumper ends from what I've been told.. but I could be wrong

 

Right. The ends are not the bumper. My recall notice says they are replacing the resin brackets with steel ones and it says Note: bumper pads and bumper plates will also be replaced. Wondering if the plates are what is referred to as ends... not sure what clips they are replacing they told you since the actual recall is the bumper brackets for the BSM/rear sonar.

 

I'm schedule to go in on the 19th and have this done. They said it would take 2 or 2 1/2 hours to do.

 

The EPA happened.

 

I got the 2nd notice, called the local dealer who said they'd order the parts. That was about 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything. So, I called the dealer again and the parts are back ordered. No idea when the parts will arrive. Meanwhile, I've ordered an after market bumper but I wanna get the OEM parts before I install the after market bumper.

 

I just got the repair notice today. I figure a lot of people are trying to get this done, so I think I'll wait until my 5K mile check (about another 1500 miles)

I have had the recall repair on my Tundra. I had a scratch on my color matched bumper from being bumped by another car and hoped they would replace it with the recall. Unfortunately the recall is only for the bracket behind the bumper plate so they would not replace the exterior bumper plate with the recall. No issues with the parts being backordered. In fact I had brought my truck in for an issue with my front parking sensor. While at the dealership they asked me if I wanted to get the recall fixed. I had them fix it. Good thing too. Apparently when someone bumped into my right rear bumper they had damaged the bumper and the dealer said the recall was issued to fix the exact problem I had with my bumper after it was hit. Also, because the bumper had been damaged they had to order a different recall kit so make sure you tell them your bumper has been hit so they aren't delayed in making the proper recall fix

 

Just spoke with my service advisor today about this apparently there's a customer coming back in who had his replaced and he's not happy the bumper actually sits almost a half an inch lower and the side angled bumper caps sit farther away from the truck so I don't think I'll be doing it sorry no pics lol

Kinda sounds like installer error? I've seen a truck with the repair and I didn't notice it looking any different. Maybe I didn't look close enough?

 

Are any of the peices in the closed boxes color matched or regular bumper ends?

 

The service advisor said the plastic and the replacement metal brackets are different sizes not sure which was bigger or smaller

 

No bumper ends just the center black plastic and the black plastic tops on the bumper looks like they reuse your bumper ends

 

I'll be damned there is bumper ends in there their must be their transferring the colored plastic ends onto the new metal end caps

 

I just went and had my first maintenance done on my Tundra and I asked about the bumper recall issue. They are now out and available but it is done per VIN request only meaning they aren't carrying the parts in stock at the dealerships. You have to have them order it specifically to your VIN number and then they will set up an appointment for you so I would suggest to call a service adviser at your local dealership, have them pull up your VIN number and have them order it whether or not you have received a letter from Toyota or not. Good luck.

 

I just got my letter today saying that they are ready to fix them and to call my dealership.

 

I called today to schedule an appt to fix it and I was told they have the part, however, they need to inspect it to see if it needs to be fixed. Anyone had theirs inspected and the dealership didn't change it?

 

Have an appointment next Friday to do mine. They said it shouldn't take more than a day. Hope they have the part in and really will do it within a day!

 

Voicemail tonight said my parts are in. Calling tomorrow to make appointment

 

Missed opportunity to give us bumper end steps like gm.
