I'm going to jump in here and state the obvious just because. Change the oil, air filter, plugs, diff trans and trans case fluids and run a can of sea foam in it.

Proof that necromancers or necrophiliacs are real. Depending on which he wants to claim.

All cosmetic so far see my posts in 2nd gen Black out chrome in progress….
My 2012 5.7 runs in the 13 mpg range all city driving. Waiting for a plug-in mod to show up and try for some improvement. Very skeptical

A 4.7 would have to be running rich to only get 8-10mpg! Or something else is going on: torque converter not locking up, drag in the drivetrain somewhere...?

Sounds like you have invested in the truck and got it in shape for years of continuing service. With the quality record of the newest Tundra, just keep your trusty V8, and even if you can't solve the MPG dilemma, rest assured you have a reliable truck capable of one-million miles of service.

Tip: don't forget your transmission. Do 3 or 4 spill-and-fills using Valvoline Max-Life or Castrol Transmax ATF. Both are full synthetics (unlike the Toyota fluid), and are fantastic transmission fluids that work well. You can get either in the gallon jugs at WalMart for about $25. (It takes about 3-1/2 quarts for one spill-and-fill on the A750 transmission mated to the 4.0 and 4.7. Be sure to drive some miles in between!)

And everybody freaks out about the transmission temperature thing, but TBH you can estimate the temp and get the transmission oil level perfectly within tolerance.

With outside temps in the 55-85 F range, and your truck cool from being parked, on level ground just idle for about 10 minutes or so, slowly change through the gears a couple times, SET your parking brake and CHOCK a wheel. With the engine idling, use a good condition 5mm hex "Allen" wrench to remove the overflow plug, when it slows to a trickle, re-install the overflow plug.

(Ideal to use new gasket/crush washer with any engine/transmission maintenance...)

I’m a mechanic by trade and I’m certified on you tube . You need to have some one with a scan tool look at your MAF and oxygen sensors . A Dirty MAF could be your culprit . A scan tool that reads fuel trim and oxygen sensor values can help reveal problems such as a bad ECT and so on .
A dirty MAF will act as insulation and throw off the fuel mixture since the computer is reading wrong values . This may all sound like gibberish but if you can find a trained mechanic he can analyze the info and find your problem
