Man, that totally sucks. I'd probably look into alternatives for the front. Since the R&P didnt last long the rest of the truck isn't gonna just "live with it". Maybe look at something adjustable like the Elka 2.0 coil overs. Then hopefully you can dial in the height yourself.

I Wouldn't write them off just yet.

It's the first one I've seen having this kind of issues. Very awkward nontheless.

It definitely sucks. Have y'all looked into Dobinsons? They're a quality product but odds are pretty high you'll have to wait for shipping.
I had Fox 2.5 C/O's on my Taco. I wasn't all that impressed for the amount of money I spent on them. The Toytec Aluma series looks promising if you want an adjustable C/O w/out breaking the bank. King is top notch but top dollars, too. Icon's have a different style internally & some don't like the way it handles as it's the opposite of everyone else's C/O's.

So I'm going to try something for my particular weird scenario. I'm going to cut the coil springs to the length needed, for my truck, to give me ~3" of lift but not sure how to measure them. Should I measure them @ free height, not attached to the shock, or should I measure them in loaded position @ static ride height? I'm going to cut about 1" off DS & 1.5" off PS. My DS sits ~.5" lower than PS & will 'bang' on potholes/holes/hard dips from over-extension but nowhere near as much as the PS.
So, should I measure them @ free height, not attached to the shock, or should I measure them in loaded position installed on the shock @ static ride height?

(Yes, I know this is a weird ass thing to do but I don't see any other choice for my weird ass scenario. I am absolutely positive the banging/popping sound is from the lift being too high & the shocks maxing out on extension (droop) when hitting imperfections in the road or driving on dirt roads. I can't do more than ~3mph on a trail w/out this vicious racket.)

    ***ETA***
Disregard. These type springs can't be cut properly due to the style of the ends. They would ever seat properly. My only option is a refund.

Is there any way they sent you the wrong struts (spring perch is incorrect height)?

Sorry to hear of the troubles you’re having. I’ve heard nothing but good things about OME suspensions with other vehicles, but it seems like it may be hit or miss with Tundras for some reason. Definitely keeps me from considering them as an option as I, too, am thinking of adding a heavier front winch bumper.

Anyway, I’ve cut coil springs before using a chop saw. Spring rate stays the same. The trick is figuring out how much to cut. I’ve done this on smaller vehicles (older Civics), so it was very quick and easy to install and remove numerous times til I got it at the right height. You may have to cut bit by bit til you get it just right, which means going through the trouble of R&R’ing the coilovers each time. Only other thing to factor in is the settling over time. So if you cut it to the right length, it’s possible they may eventually settle a bit more, but it’s always difficult to predict by how much and over what period of time.

Steering rack sounds like a pain, too. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I just sent Wheeler's requesting a refund for the coilovers. I'm completely happy w/the rest of the lift I installed. We'll see how this goes. I see no reason why they wouldn't seeing as I can't even drive my truck down dirt roads w/out it banging. I use this truck for truck stuff & drive quite a bit on dirt roads & all over my deer lease.

Hopefully they play nice with you and refund without issue. What’s your plan after refund? Try a different brand coilover up front?

I hope so too. Keep us updated. I’d sure like to see the ome vs. Dobison side by side once removed for comparison sake. Be nice to find the issue. Nothing worse than never finding an answer :annoyed:

Maybe add 2" extra in the back to level her up?

It sits dead nuts level now. I love the look but the functionality isn’t there.

That’d kick ass but also be over $10K.

Maybe all the springs you’ve received are from a bad batch? They measure at the correct height uninstalled, but are they just way too stiff? I’m frustrated just from reading this. I can imagine how upset you must be.

I was going to order the BP51 kit before bookmarking this thread. But I’m now looking elsewhere as well.

That’s what I’m thinking but ARB says no. That’s the only thing I can think of. It’ll be interesting to see if others start having this issue when installing this kit.

What a shitshow. I'm sorry to hear they didn't work out. I'm looking at adjustable coilovers like Toytec and Elka for mine. I think you should too so you can dial in your ride height to account for the bumper rather than go with another fixed length setup like the Dobinson and hope the spring weights and lengths work out.

I'm curious if you measured from the spring perch to the bottom shock eyelet and compared with other members running the same setup. There's gotta be a snafu with the shock length or a batch of springs with the wrong weight.

Man... not to beat a dead horse, and this is coming from experience making this mistake myself. I installed the spring perches upside down once and couldn't believe how much more lift I had. Experienced much of the same trouble you're describing. Not saying this is what's going on but it may be worth another look. When I compare the image from your install to a stock image of a OME strut with the perch installed it looks to me like yours are upside down. What really leads me to believe this is it looks like like I can see the perch ledge on the shock in your photo. In the stock photo it looks like the "cup" of the perch should be facing down and conceal that ledge. When you're looking at the parts it seems counterintuitive to install them the way they need to be installed which is why I believe this happens. See images and let me know your thoughts.

Now I'm finding conflicting images.... some with the cups facing up and some facing down....
