    Where do you live?

Are you absolutely sure you're checking the oil level with the truck on level ground? Especially side-to-side.

As stated above, take it in.... Do not pass go, and do not collect $200.... Appointment may be best, but you still gotta wait 4 hours for it to come back out.

With only burning 1/2 quart every 5,000 miles I Highly Highly doubt Toyota will even think about doing anything about it. That is well within most manufacturers allowed tolerances.

I would still take it to dealer and have it on file in case it gets a lot worse in the near future.

Is the smoke black or white? White smoke on start-up typically vapor and normal. Black smoke is oil. Typical for engine to rev high on start-up until warmed up. If you change oil and check it before startup, you will see it is full. Oil level drops about half quart after engine starts and oil filter is filled. Also, some oil usage normal per industry standard - sorry to say maybe as much as a quart in 3-5,000 miles. Captain Obvious signing out.....

LOL, I would agree with Buckaroo, but having a paper trail can eventually lead to changes, very much like the Camry 4cyl oil burning issues and the Tacoma frame rusting issue.

You think you have problems...How about a quart in 1200 miles? See this thread:

In Post #4 by @AzureNightmare, a link to the following is referenced:

    3UR-FE Engine Problems and Reliability
The 3UR-FE is the most reliable and durable engine for all UR engine family. The Toyota made over 1.3 million kilometers of durability testing for this engine. In reality, the 3UR-Fe can run more than 400,000 miles (650,000 km) smoothly with regular maintenance with using high-quality fuel and oil.

But nothing is perfect and this engine too. The 3UR-FE has a problem with coking of the piston oil rings which caused high oil consumption. After that, the oil consumption increases over time. To avoid this problem, use only the recommended high-quality oil and watch the oil level. The 3UR-FE crankcase ventilation system sensor fails hugely often, and electronic throttle system ETCS-i is not as reliable as it should be. The problem with water pump is also found in this engine. Like other UR engines, the 3UR-FE has a leaking water pump with short life about 60,000 miles (100,000 km).

There is at least one other thread in the archives about coking of piston rings. You need to do the research to identify the highest quality motor oil with the best detergent additive available. I would look at full synthetic, maybe High Mileage specific oils, and maybe a slightly higher viscosity range. Apparently, the problem is rare, but that's not much consolation if you own a 5.7L that's susceptible.

FWIW, I will predict what the dealer will say, and in your case, he will be correct: One quart in 5000 miles is normal. They may go through the motions, but I doubt they will even look at it. At least you will be on record if it continues to worsen.

It appears cooking the piston rings is a common thing across the board... my Celica's 1zz burns oil, so I went to 10w30 and it more or less lessened this issue, haven't seen this issue on my 3UR just yet and I'm at 225k and constantly check my oil since it has surpassed my 1zz by 50k miles... The Camry also has similar issue, and I believe the older Avalons as well...
Documentation is important since it will force Toyota to eventually start looking at this issue and upgrade the piston rings as it did in 03 with the 1zz and other models, as well as replacing engines due to the consumption getting so great.

Generally speaking if it only does it on start up and the smoke has a blue tinge to it , usually that indicates the valve seals but definitely get it into the dealer so at the very least it’s documented as others have said .

1/2 qt in 5000 miles is being burned or a engine leak some where see if the smoke out the exhaust pipe is blue, white indicates water leaking somewhere. if you get smoke all the time than it is in upper or top or engine cylinder heads, if you get smoke out the exhaust when you step on the gas after coming down a hill than it is most likely pistons, pistons rings wear.
first change your oil and use a better quality oil and grade. and change filter, 30,000 mile you may look at other things beside just oil. change all filters change grade of gas or may be water in gas also.

for the industry to say its ok for an engine to burn a quart of oil between oil changes is utter crap. i just went through this with chevy. i had a 2016 silverado LTZ 4x4 consuming oil, only had 28k miles on it.. the service techs told me that "chevy" tells them it's ok for an engine to use a quart of oil between oil changes. i said that's because chevy is trying to save their ass by telling people that just to get them passed their warranty, then guess what kids? you're screwed....... now, i can see if an engine had 200k miles on it, then ya..

Some oil consumption is normal. If it bothers you, you will need a oil catch can to catch the oil from the PCV system. Not expensive. Look up online. All the best...
