UPDATE: I removed the PCV valve and ran it around. I checked to make sure it wasn’t spitting out oil by putting it in park and holding my finger over the hole while throttling it. The pcv side had a intense amount of vacuum. I don’t know what I’d standard, but this would literally stick to my finger like a house hold vacuum. I assume it’s what is causing the oil in the intake due to testing that theory and seeing non of the smoke I usually see on start. Any thoughts?

Have you considered mounting a catch can or two?

@azimuth I have been told about that, but after today, I noticed there is no oil getting out of the pcv valve when even running at high rpms. It was caused by the vacuum of the intake side.

The vacuum is from your engine intake. You don't have any smoke with the PCV disconnected because you're blocking the oil from passing into the intake to be burned in the cylinders.

I suspect you have excessive blow-by caused by weak or stuck rings.

It could be possible, however, wouldn’t I see some spitting oil at the pcv port hole while throttling it if that was true?

No it would be minuscule amounts of oil that slow saturates the filter. It honestly sounds like a case a stuck rings

Here’s the thing though, it’s a massive amount of oil that is lost daily. So why would that be?

Rings have been mentioned a couple times.

Had a C10 that I put Camaro engine in from a roll over supposedly rebuilt..smoked like hell. Was suggested to get on hwy and go as fast as you feel is safe to seat the rings. 100 mile round trip with 30 min lunch at 80 mph and unfortunately still used qt oil very frequently.

It may be losing oil most when the engines cold.

Have you done either of what's listed below?

If not and its already down enough to add a quart of ATF, I would do so. Then go drive it hard for a bit (keep an eye on oil level).

Doesn't need to be high speed, just high load.

Perhaps keep it in 2nd and gun it, then slow down (via engine braking/no throttle) and repeat. This should keep you below 70. Best to do this where there is no traffic.

SeaFoam Deep Creep. Pull spark plugs and squirt some down the hole. Let sit for two days and start her up.

I’ll try the deep creep, I already put the tranny fluid in, I’ll also try running it pretty hard as I’ve been doing. I’ll keep all updated. Also trying throttle body seafoam while running once it comes in.

I am having the same issue on my 2005 4.7

One day I go to start up and giant cloud of whitish smoke fills the street. This happens nearly every time I start up, and occasionally at stop with acceleration. I smell it, burning rubber. I have had a vehicle before with coolant leak and it is definitely not coolant or condensation. I am burning oil, approx. a quart every 2-300 miles.

I come on here and other forums. I go through all the following steps.

    Sea foam
    Stop Leak
    Heavier Oil
    Change PCV with OEM
    Valve Cover Gaskets
Look inside intake, a coat of oil, but not a pourable amount.
My mechanic compression test - 145-155. Leak down also fails, don't have the exact numbers
Toyota 2nd opinion - same exact results. So clearly I have a major engine problem, rings and pistons are probably shot and valve seals are not holding seal.

    Replace or Rebuild Engine?
I went with the rebuild. Found a engine shop that would do it and offer a warranty. Get it back drives fine for a few days. Boom huge cloud of white smoke. The truck drives like a dream. Engine runs smooth, definitely more power and better ride than before rebuild. But I am still burning a lot of oil. And with a rebuild I shouldn't be.

The truck goes back and forth to the shop for a few months. He claims he tears down the whole engine again and everything looks good on his end. He tells me his compression test is 205-215 and leak down is 2-5%. Engine shop has no answers, we are in a legal battle, but the courts are all backed up from Covid. I really need to get my truck running right.

Take it to Toyota for a 2nd opinion. They come back with very similar compression and leak down numbers.

I am pretty certain that oil is being sucked up in the intake through the PCV. I have swapped out additional 2 OEM PCV, all 3 are still rattling. If I pull the PCV tube, the suction from the intake is pretty hard, like a powerful vacuum on my finger. Clearly my engine is sucking oil into itself.

Install a catch can yesterday, my hope is that catch can will lessen the vacuum. Run it hard, stop and go, highway, I put about 35 miles on. Get home catch can is nearly full, pour it out, get about 4.5oz of straight motor oil.

Why is my engine sucking up so much oil out of the crankcase?

Hmmm, that's an interesting one. Hey @empty_lord curious if you have any input here.
