Still haven't posted proof of "you get what you pay for". So the "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply. So yeah that works for me bro.

therefore I guess. I got what I paid for

    now post some boutique numbers

    Booooo. I'm out then.
That's the only reason oil threads are worth reading!
I'm sure as hell not here for the engineering knowledge and intellectual stimulation.
I'm here for the booze, loose women and oil fights!

Buy $1 "tool" from the "dollar store" and compare it with the "same tool" for $25 from a big box store. That's a "get what you pay for" example.

Cutco knives that last an entire generation and are passed on to the grandkids is another.

    YMMV

There needs to be more "what's the best coolant" threads. Not sure why we always get stuck on oil. There's so many other things on a vehicle that people don't know shit about that would make for great arguing. Why do we always end up on oil?

Still waiting on proof. Looks like I am not going to get it as usual. I can also show you plenty of big name tool manufs that buy from an even bigger manufs and just rebrand the tool. Your point. Dont even try to compare Harbor Freight to Snap-On. Looks like that's what you mean when comparing the oils Kirkland to Amsoil. But I will still wait till the end of time for that proof.

Does Amsoil make a coolant? If so we can get another thread started and see which coolant cools better.

There is zero mistaking that no oil is created equal, unless it comes from the same distributor. There is a plethora of lab results showing this on the internet and YouTube. With that said, you will only see the results of that difference in quality with longer OCI’s and long term ownership. But people who have done more than just look at the bottle and done the research know that longer OCI’s will cause issues in the long term especially in forced induction engines. People who want to keep there vehicle long term should stick to a 5k OCI and use the best oil they can afford. Personally I change the oil in my Tundra every 3k with an oil that I have researched and has a above average additive pack. There is nothing wrong with using a bulk grade oil and changing it every 10k-12k, you do your thing. Keep in mind that my engine will more than likely last longer due to a better maintenance regime. It y’all do you.

I agree with your overall post. But, define "best" or "better".
For a person walking into an auto parts store to pick up oil for a diy oil change,...who doesn't really know the more involved details of how oil works, how it's made, etc, how would that person determine what good/better/best is?

Dude, I don't understand why you're so combative about this? I don't care what oil you use. Why do you care what I use?

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I use Amsoil. You can if you want. Or not! I don't care!

    Peace man.

Great question, I think it’s more of a material of preference and knowledge of your own vehicle, meaning does your engine need more dispersants or detergents or friction modifier’s and so forth. In reality you are paying for two things. A better additive pack and a brand name. With that said, you are getting what you pay for with diminishing returns of course. Is there a better additive pack with Amsoil than Valvoline, yes there is. Is it worth the price with a 3k-5k OCI, probably not. Is it better for your engine, yea it is. Am I willing to pay that, nope. But if you have the coin, why not.

LOL, this is why I love these posts. Some people lose their shit over the simplest things. When have I been combative. I think the problem here is that you can't produce proof. And its not that I care about what you buy, you can buy NASA oil for all I care, but for you to say Kirkland or any other oil that falls in the $3-4 dollar range, basically every off the shelf synthetic, cheap is what gets me. So by your logic if it doesn't cost Amsoil money, it's cheap. That's Mobil, Penzoil, Castrol, etc. Have a beer and relax, it's only oil.

I have gone down the oil rabbit hole, not far though. What one additive package has the other lacks. And there lies the problem. There is no 1 size fits all superior additive package. Same for gas. Chevron has Techron, Shell has V Power Nitro+(sounds fancy) Mobil has Synergy, etc. We can also debate for ages on which gas is better but in the end, gas is gas. Unless you're buying some non-additive mom/pop store gas. I will say that you running 3k OCI, you can run whatever and your engine will more than fine. I remember 3k OCI from 20 years ago. Didn't know people still went by them.

So... I'm not entitled to my opinion? I can't think cheap oil is, um, cheap oil? Or is the saying my opinion part that bothers you?

Sorry, I have no idea what this is about.

The thing I get triggered, combative and toxically masculine over, is the implication that I don't care about my truck as much as someone who spends 3x as much on oil changes.
You can say it as nicely as you want, you can say "lol", "bro" post a smiley,....shit, you can not even realize you're doing it.
    You're still doing it.
It reminds me of people who think they love their kids and the planet more because they drive a Subaru. Or love their dogs more because they paid 3x more for the same saw dust and chicken dick dog food, etc.

There's not really a lot of tech and R&D that goes into motor oil. How it functions in an engine it mostly determined by your opinion, how you feel and personal reasons.

I heard that they are going to put tiny little cameras, kinda like the one you swallow so the DR can see what's going on through your intestines, to see if the oil is doing its job. Or if by adding a little more fairy dust they can prolong the OCI to 30k. You can really save some money there. I have 32k now on my 2020, so 1 oil change every 3 years.
