I was wondering if anyone changes their oil filter every 5k and oil/filter every 10k? Oil/filter every 5k of just every 10k?

I change mine every 5K. But, I have a '13 FFV engine - manual requires 5K intervals for my engine. I think that changed with 3rd gens.

Not what I was asking. Just the Filter every 5k and oil/filter every 10k.

Example: change oil and filter at 10k miles, just a filter change at 15k miles and the oil n filter again at 20k miles.

To me, 10k miles seems like a long time on a filter that costs less than $4.

Run MOBILE ONE 5W20 , Change filter every 5k , and oil every 10k , only 68k on 2013, oil really clean , I save old oil for my tractors. Filter easy enough , and dealer only filters, regular not TRD. All my own work.

:facepalm:Pretty sure my answer answers your question. Mileage interval is irrelevant in that case, whether it's 5k, 10k, or whatever you decide to do. Just for further clarification tho, I change both and I do it every 5k.

Reading Sprinters post , thats backwards, especially on newer motors , filters are 12.00, and I left one in 10k and seperated a little , oil doesn't break down , it's the additives that are lost or break down . Forgot one very important detail, Where you live , and how you drive , Temps can be very hard on motors.

Oil filters of all price ranges have shown to do very well for 10,000 mile OCI's over at BITOG. So, just pick your OCI (3, 5, or 10,000) and change the oil and filter at the same time. Changing just the filter is useless labor when the filter is fine.

Gotcha. Only posted this thread because I have known diesel guys who drain their oil at long intervals, change their filters in between changes.

Interesting. Might make sense in a diesel? I've never owned one so I don't know much about them.

I have a ‘91 CTD and change it once a year as it only averages 2k a year. Had a ‘97 Powerstroke that got changed every 2-3 weeks. I don’t miss having to do that.

Once you've changed the oil and filter in a diesel, you'll wonder why they even bother with the filter. :D

On my Tacoma I would sometimes change the filter before the oil but I took 5 minutes due to top mount design. On the Tundra I change both at 10.

Oil every 5k (5,15,25,35,....). Oil and filter every 10k. (10, 20, 30,.....) Hope that clear things up. But this is for the non FFV only. Since it only need oil changes every 10k.

Well, if Toyota recommends 10k, why not. If I bring it to them every 5k, they will only change the oil every other time and not even replace the filter. As for the elements falling apart, I was lucky enough not see that yet. Since I have not done a full oil change on the 20. My FFV Tundra was always 5k on both.
