Did my first oil change today at 1800 +\- miles. Oil wasn’t much darker than new, I was kind of surprised. I’ve got a mix of highway and city miles, one 6 hour highway trip at 75mph. No towing and I’ve not really driven it too hard, but haven’t been gentle either.

Dealer lost washers for my Skid plate and ripped my cam tab on an alignment that's why I'm just gonna be the only one to do routine shit like oil changes. Some of the Techs r pretty incompetent

The greenest ones in the shop do the oil changes.

Would you trust that guy to replace the life blood of the engine?
    I certainly wouldn't.

Yes! I had an oil change and tire rotate done at dealer. I decided to have tires switched to mud terrains a few days later. Tire store said my lugs were barely tight, almost loose. So I then drive 4700 miles and decide to check oil. It's at least a quart overfilled, like 1.5" too high on dipstick! Then I look down and my airbox lid is popped up! Been sucking unfiltered air the whole time! I called dealer and reamed their ass but good. Ended up giving me an 84mo. 75k mile powertrain warranty. As a final blow, I did my own oil change myself asap after all this, and one of my 6 TRD skid plate bolts is missing. Others were loose. NEVER AGAIN WILL THEY TOUCH MY TRUCK.

They had 6 guys under my truck trying to put the skid plate back on because they didn’t know how to lower the air damp

I think this guy does an excellent job of showing the process, including part numbers and torque settings. Probably nothing a lot of people here need but I'm not that mechanically inclined and find tutorials like these "comforting". This one is particularly well done. IMO. I just turned 1000 miles so will be doing it myself after recovering from today's feasting. I had similar issues with the local dealer on my '08 as described above. When I went to do an oil change myself, I found 2 bolts missing from the skid plate and had to use a 24" breaker bar to get the filter off.

FWIW, when I asked my dealer about the cost of an oil change on my 2019 911 in 2020, the service manager said (without any signs of embarrassment) "$500". I found a similar video on Youtube and did it myself for around $80 in oil/filter.

Good for you, a DIY for $80 is largely sensible for an oil change I can imagine for that type of vehicle. The $500 rate, for roughly the same service, has become socially acceptable/expected by the consumer. Profit found and profit gained, in sales or service, for any large organization where an increase in the profit margins would be considered a win. Next year it will be $525 and the cycle will continue. The company will not suffer from any amount of inflation as it's simply passed to the consumer.

My dealer is a small town dealer and I know the sales manager. They are only charging $59.95 for an oil change. I am going to trust them for this first oil change.

Had my wife’s oil changed at 1k at the dealer. Near ready for next service at 5700 miles and I drove truck for once. Asked her what that smell was. Found the oil filler cap missing. Judging by all the oil in the engine compartment, I assume the dealer left it off. Pretty disappointing

Twice now at 2K and 6K. 1) Don’t walk into your dealer parts counter for a filter. Its twice the price vs ordering it from your dealer on-line and picking it up ($6 vs $12) 2) TRD Skid plate? Remove the rear bolts. Loosen the center and front bolts half way. Roll a floor jack under with a 10x10 piece of plywood on the pad just slightly past the square impression on the skid plate.(balance point) Lift till the skid just lifts on the loosened bolts. Remove the center bolts by hand, then slide the plate to the left in its slotted front bolt holes till the plate pops off the front bolts. Lower it and roll it out. Reverse procedure for reinstall. Last oil and filter change took me 1hr. Next will be faster. For the filter drain I make a foil trough. It catches everything you spill removing the filter as well as what drains from the catch tray. Once drained it’s easily wadded up and thrown away. Hose method was messy for me. Have fun

Did you just line the catch tray with foil?

No. Make a trough that’s a little wider than the catch tray that comes out over the edge toward your pan. Tuck the top edge over the hose below the tray to hold it in place. (I use those precut foil sheets that fit your toaster oven tray) Shape it to catch all drips from the tray spout as well as what you drip sliding the filter out. (Tip- loosen the filter to the last couple threads and let it hang for a couple minutes to drain) After youre done it’s an easy wipe out of the catch tray with a paper towel or two. Also, only hand tighten your new filter as snug as you can. It won’t leak and removing next time will be way easier than the factory installed one was

My old CPAP mask hose works really well. I cut a section of about 16 inches and it fits snug like it was made for it. I was really glad to see this because I get sent a new hose every 2 months and they really don't wear out.

I have a ResMed brand but I don't think it makes a difference. My brother has a different brand CPAP and he often borrows hoses from me.

I now just stick a red solo cup under it and it works perfectly haha. I’ve also used an old garden hose I cut up for it and it worked no issues as well

You can apply the Toyota Care 10k mile service (Oil, tires, fluid checks, etc) to your vehicle at 5k miles... No Charge ... However, you'll use us the 10k service. And then again, you can apply the 20k service to your vehicle at 10k No Charge...However, you will then have exhausted your free services.
