Here's the correct part number used for my dealer complimentary oil change 00279-0w201 it seems that it's synthetic

I did some research and don't see it say anywhere that Toyota has 0-20 blend and not fully synthetic oil.

Maintenance contract doesn't mention details on synthetic or not.

Lots of people assume that their Toyota dealer uses Toyota oil. But many dealerships apparently use cheap bulk oil. Looks like it’s not specified anywhere that they have to use Toyota oil.

Your dealership actually gave you the empty Toyota bottles and said that’s what they used? Or was the part number just listed on your service ticket?

Wait, Toyota dealers don’t even used Toyota parts WTF

Is it just the free Stuff that they can Cheap out on Or can they use generic parts for any work that they’re doing. I’m gonna have to start inspecting everything they do

I thought the reason the tundra oil change cost $100 at the dealership because they were using Toyota parts you mean to tell me that they’re using generic parts and still charging me $100 for an oil change pisses me off something fierce what about other fluids like transmission diff Are they putting generic fluids and all that stuff to

Wait till you hear that the master techs don’t touch oil changes and the guy who does is basically a fry cook who has to work as fast as possible to justify the $18-20/hr they are paying him. Car Care Nut (the YouTube Toyota master tech) says most dealerships buy whatever oil they can find the cheapest in bulk. Many people on here have posted the same thing. The fact that it says the OEM oil part number on your service write up means nothing. It’s simply the Toyota part number they replaced.

There are lots of reasons people don’t let the dealership touch their vehicles.

My oil changes in my driveway cost around $35 and 30 minutes of my time.

Yeah I would check. I’ve had a Fram show up on my wife’s Jeep from the dealer. Not saying Toyota uses aftermarket but that Jeep dealer sure did (bulk filter and bulk oil on receipt). At least this truck has an actual “metal” oil filter unlike our 2014 4Runner which is kinda a pain. These oil changes should be quick on this truck. Always worry about cracking the 4Runners plastic filter housing. I’ll do the 5Ks myself and let dealer do the even 10s.

I wish the dealer closest to my house use synthetic oil but they don’t. Just business I guess They’re probably in the business of getting away with the cheapest options of everything that’s approved by Toyota

It’s crazy the Toyota would even let them do that considering that they’re pushing 10,000 miles oil changes

Isn't the Eco boost the same or sooner? These twin turbo motors must be hard on plugs??. But I had a 1991 Honda Civic that needed plug changes every 30K. That thing was like a motorcycle.

To your point, the owner's manual (at least on a 2021) doesn't say anything about synthetic. As long as the oil meets the proper API engine oil standard, apparently Toyota doesn't care what it's based on.
Disturbing to say the least with Toyota supporting 10K oil change intervals.

I would never go 10k miles on Dino oil or blend. I would never go 5k miles on Dino oil or blend with a turbo motor. I would likely be doing 3-5k oci with full synth on a turbo motor. That’s just me. Not Toyota’s recommendations, so the whole “engineers know best” is cool and all but come on. 10k miles on any oil in a turbo motor??? B to the S.

Agree... 5 is where I am headed. But 3k sounds a little OCD for an OCI. ;-) Unless you are towing, I suppose.

My gen 2 Tacoma was also 30k for plugs. But that was with the recommended copper plugs. I changed mine 4 times in the time I owned it and they always looked fine when I took them out at the 30k intervals.

0w20 can't be made of conventional base, as I've heard. Pretty much anything 0w is "synthetic" (semi-synthetic blend in EU).

DIY oil change costs me around $100: $78 for 8.5 qt of Toyota 0w20 and Toyota oil filter, ~$20 for a very nice twelve-pack. I see no reason for me giving away my twelve-pack to someone else, on a mild, sunny day, when I usually do my oil changes.

Is this the same Car Care Nut that so many people consider his opinion as gospel? The same guy that said 10,000 OCI done at the dealer destroyed a Camry engine? Clicks, ladies and gentlemen. It's all about clicks. I'm taking mine to the dealer for another free oil change but providing my oil.

I used to do this with my '08, where the filter was half way up the engine, tilted at an angle guaranteed to make a mess. I bought the oil and filter and payed the local mechanic $20 to change it.
