As far as reading material for the seal conditioners, I do not. Googling it is a shit show. This is just information I've learned from talking with different engineers and chemists, so take it with a grain of salt. Any oil with an API rating will have to meet certain parameters, so they all essentially contain the same conditioners, etc. The amount will vary, but it won't be out of API specs. If you want to actually swell the seals on something, use diesel, it seems to swell the seals on anything :muscleflexing:

As far as UOAs, this is a great reference to get a better understanding
    https://bobistheoilguy.com/engine-oil-analysis/

And for grease, check this out
    https://bobistheoilguy.com/functions-of-grease/

I find myself checking the grease page whenever I need to check cross compatibility, etc.

I think he meant that changing your oil more frequently will do more for eliminating engine wear than using an expensive oil.

Q: Why does one change oil anyway?
A: Modern day gasoline is a product of deep crude oil treatment and contains a significant amount of aromatic compounds (including BTEX) that produce large quantities of black soot when burning. That soot with blow-by gases contaminates oil regardless of what brand of oil you use.

Oil has soot holding capabilities, which is 'one' of the reasons why it turns black. And it's almost a non issue in gas engines (except DI engines). Diesel is another story, they're high compression and much more prone to blow by . The detergent/dispersant packs clean and suspend insolubles so they don't settle on engine surfaces and they're able to be removed when draining oil.

10k mile oil from my tundra is brownish (but getting better every oil change as the oil cleans)
10k mile oil from my 7.3 is black.

Are you running a lot of highway miles with both engines?

Yes. 7.3 is 2wd so it's all highway, lots of towing and idle time as well.

Tundra is 70% highway. Lots of offroading and towing. Got her with 172k miles. She's about to hit 240k. PO only used Dino oil, so the high quality oils I've been using has been cleaning up all deposits in the engine. My current oil has tons of esters and Alkylated Naphthalene. Great for cleaning.

    No, I don't mean that...
I was just pulling your chain as in, it was a joke.

When it comes to OCIs... I say do whatever you feel comfortable with for your truck. I do 5k b/c I'm SC'd and see it as a modified service interval and further protection for the boosted motor.

Here's some good reading material and an insight into the company.
    https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/high-performance-lubricants-pcmo-series.344421/

I talked to the owner for about an hour discussing my oil needs, amongst other things. Really great guy, and is happy to answer any questions you may have, it's nice to be able to call the owner of the company if you have any questions, he even made a special batch of 75w for me at no upcharge from their regular gear oil cost. I run their HDEO personally. But wouldn't have an issue running their PCMO.

Didn’t the million mile tundra run Toyota oil? Seems to me that its not the type of oil but the maintenance and not driving it like you stole it.

What I find interesting about people who spend $$$$$ on oils, it’s only to turn around and sell with only 50k miles on the vehicle.

Usually use Amsoil 0w20 but the last couple of changes I’ve used Valvoline Extended Protection 0w20. (Lots of moly in its great additive pack).

I use either Amsoil or Toyota filters.

Definitely not. But I have watched a couple independent tests which are good enough for me to spend an extra 80 bucks a year.

What if I told you that a truck at work was retired due to rot that had 298,000 miles on it, original motor that had yearly oil changes with bulk dino oil, no smoke, no consumption.. Ridden hard and put away wet it's whole life.

We all feel better when we pour in that expensive liquid gold every 5k and think, I'm doing good. Are we? Or are we flushing money down the toilet?

I spend alot on my truck and I am ok with it if I am wasting money. I change myself so I am basically just paying the same as someone who takes to a dealer

For the record , I use M1 , usually 0W20, but I'm going to try 0W30 next change, see what shakes.

Eh, I read on a blog at Blackstone that their techs usually just use regular Dino oil and change it at 3k.

me, I’ve been using M1 0w-20 and last December had an OA done by them and it got a fantastic report, so guess I’ll just keep doing the same every 4K. Brand probably doesn’t matter if it’s frequent, but most of my driving is towing or city, so I’ll do it every 4k

Whatever this forum told me to do

    Kirkland 0-20 for me.

I posted an oil analysis on the Harrop Stage 1 thread.

4700 miles on oil. no shear. Strong TBN. no metals.

this oil had my dyno tuning on it.

so...Kirkland is good enough for me.
