How you came to that conclusion is beyond me. There are so many little details a tear down would have to cover to find problems in clearances, tolerances etc. These things take time and it's not like he has an army of people that strip the block and report every dimension with 100% accuracy. He's doing more than toyota would at least appreciate that. Would you rather see a rushed report like a lot of the YT BS or a proper report?

Can we get some sort of real confirmation that this is ACTUALLY going to happen instead of the "when the time is right" high school prom date virginity-losing promise bullshit?

Things are getting spicy for a Monday.

What are the chances the person defending Ryan is named Mayan and lives in the same city?

I don't know anything about rod knock, but. I have been getting this whine if I give it too much throttle.

Perhaps a presidential inauguration type deal where you put your right hand on the bible the say you'll report nothing but the truth some like this...

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the V35A-FTS shorty against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

I really wouldn't worry bout it man. Do it, don't do it, you do you. But you did show the block and promise a tear down. Folks are very impatient and want to see what's up. It's a short block, you've got like a handful of things that can actually be torn down on it. Would take 20-30 minutes to do it.

    Oh I don't...

A teardown is coming...just don't know the timing...

I've had quite a few health issues at the beginning of the year and this past week another challenge unrelated to those at the beginning of the year...surgery on Thursday...

And while I've been wanting to get this right, I've actually been able to meet some rather fantastic folks in the process that have been to give further insight...

To scratch the itch for some...see below...

Not specifically Tundra related, but it is the V35A-FTS. It’s mostly a summary of Tinkerer’s interview with the main engineer and a high level summary about the engine design, but he does briefly hit on the main bearing failures. Ultimately, it’s not any new information or earth shattering insight, but I enjoy his videos.

WOW! It appears the bearing issue is more wide spread and not just one guy doing something wrong in a factory. The Lexus mechanic has not been given a reason for the failure because so many factors are affecting it. They just replace the bottom end and cross fingers! 20 years as a Lexus tech and only 3 motor failures, all this twin turbo V-6. These are Japanese built vehicles.

Good thing everyone is buying the Toyota extended warranty on these.

I can share one quick update:

Rod bearings do not have bearing tangs...which is super interesting to me and other engine builders...they save a few cents by not having that machine work done...

I didnt read through every page of this thread, just the recent posts. Im a Toyota dealer technician and though i havnt personally had one of these engine failures, i have seen several come through our shop. The first few were said to be the front main bearing failure due to manufacturing flaws from 2022 model years. The most recent was a 2023 with 15k miles i believe and it had all the mains eaten up. If that information is interesting to anyone else, i found it to be. this being 1 dealership, it seems peculiar to see any low miles engines coming in seized :monocle:

How about the main bearings? Seems like they’re the ones spinning most often…
