I had block heater and around 75ft of elect cord wrapped on the front of it when I was stationed at Minot on my Jeep, everywhere you went on base and town had plugin stands in the parking spots, or people would just leave the vehicles running while they were shopping or eating. It would get to -50 for a few days here and there, everything on the jeep would creek and moan.

At -50, I'd be creeking and moaning myself! Damn that's cold.

FYI - no response yesterday. Giving them until end of day today then I’ll shoot a video. If they do respond after the fact, which is doubtful, I’ll pin a comment to the top of the comments and, hopefully, if I remember, (LOL), I’ll tell people that’s what I’m doing in the video.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Sadly I suspect no statement from Toyota on this is going to be forthcoming.

No statement would be consistent with how all other brands respond to these kinds of questions. Toyota isn’t alone in not responding.

I bought a Toyota because they were inconsistent with the other brands. Didn't the CEO step down shortly before the bearing issue cropped up?

I have wondered this as well, some have talked about using 5-20 or thicker. What weight oil do the dealers have on hand and could a Tire rotating/Oil service tech fill it with the wrong weight be causing this?

From my view, I don't see Toyota as being that different from other brands. The CEO didn't step down really. He moved up to oversee all their brands and hand off some of the day-to-day responsibilities of running Toyota. He's still actively involved.

The Owner's Manual even says that you can use 5W-20 for an oil change, but you must switch back to 0W-20 on the next oil change...

Toyota Dealers are going to have all necessary weights on hand...

My local dealer has 0W-16 and 0W-8 sitting on the shelf in the parts department...

0W-8 shows as Made in France...

I think that's just the technical name for "Extra Virgin Olive Oil" and I'm pretty sure that comes from Italy, not France.

Whats supposed to be used, and what actually gets used, can be different, regardless of what the dealer has on hand (or any jiffy lube type place)

is,it possible the failures are due to a mix up? I.e customer states “I used 5-20 last oil, change” “make sure to use 0-20” gets confused with “please use 5-20”?

Doesn’t explain the multiple failures we’ve seen that occur before the first oil change - I don’t think anyone is buying a $70k pickup and driving it straight to jiffy lube to dump the factory oil.

Sure it's possible someone put the wrong grade in. Did that or has that caused any of the bearing failures? Extremely unlikely.

it does line up with blocks that weren't clean well though thing we have heard.

the oil jets on that capstone may have just be more clogged than others so it was really starved of oil.

Ah yes France, a country well known for engineering some of the most durable and longest lasting machinery anywhere. Just look at automotive industry leaders Renault, Peugeot, and of course Citroen. Paragons of reliability and durability.

    Makes for great TV……

    Transportation not so much.

Glad to know I am not alone in my preference for automotive entertainment that involves the presenter or presenters to be subjected to shit boxes and death traps. I don’t care what the newest Uber super car can do on a track with a pro driver, had I the money to afford the car I’d buy an airplane instead; and there are no race tracks in my AO. So put the talking head in an unpleasant, unreliable car and make them go A to B over a long distance.

    Maybe.

Perhaps you just need to go experience some unpleasant things to darken and warp your sense of humor.

The USMC is pretty good about providing that kind of environment.

Just spend 4 years in the infantry, maybe go to a combat zone. You’ll find all sorts of inappropriate things to be quite funny after that.

    1. Much respect for your time serving our country. I’m from a military(army/navy) family and I’m familiar with the sacrifices.
    2. I just inherited a Marine rifleman as a new son in law, he relays similar sentiments about his experiences.
