Ya, the "s" just means you get to "select" the highest gear that the truck will shift to. I wanted it to actually be shifting to the gear selected when you select it. But I guess it's for safety and protection of the truck and occupants. I drove a Charger and was playing with the paddle shifters. I was only going like 30mph and bumped it to 8th gear (highest). It chugged like a manual trans car would going too slow in a high gear. I didn't know how to get it out of man. shift mode, so I put it in neutral then back to drive. Crisis averted. This was the 1st time driving it and it wasn't mine.

An intersting point made here and something I tried today. I came to a full stop at my normal leave the neighborhood route and today I pulled the shifter into “s”. The dash said “s4”. I manually adjusted to s1 and there was no lag which happens every time previously in “d” mode. Odd that the truck feels it needs to start out in what I think is 4th gear but definetly noteworthy. I am not a gear head just sharing my experience.

that’s not what’s happening there , it defaults to 4th as a limit high gear when you do that . It does not mean your in 4th gear

^that. If you at a complete stop for however long you want. Slide it to S and I doubt it'll say 1. I haven't actually done this though or at least not intentionally.

Might as well just trade this mofo for a Prius then…hoping the new engine presents differently if I ever get my number called.

For those of us playing catch-up, is T-SB-0111-22 (MC-10230373-9999.pdf) the most current for solution for the lag issue? I couldn't find anything specifically stating that the applicability been broadened to include all gen 3 years. My truck is a '24 and occasionally has this issue.

Yes. Nothing else has been released with a direct callout for the hesitation issue.

The recall for movement while in neutral helped for a period of time, but ultimately the hesitation came back.

Anything after a mid-2023 model year production date has the updated calibration installed. While it helped for a little while, it ultimately returned for most everyone who has the TSB performed.

OK, I'm back to thinking the tranny is slipping then.
    I didn't the scan tool
Couldn't Toyota have the dash readout show EXACTLY what gear the truck is in .... and still have gear limits and a gear range in the background?

I'm not debating that the dash readout is not the gear you are in at that moment because it would be beyond stupid for the truck to be in 3rd or 4th gear when at a complete stop
....but I am debating that Toyota designers we smart to display it this way.

Just another dumbness for no reason and still doesn't explain the tranny slip or downshift or whatever I'm getting every morning.

Transmission is not slipping. It is a delay in it downshifting all the way to 1st gear.

There is a TSB out for the Tundra HV & Sequoia HV starting out in 2nd gear, even when doing it manually downshifting with the shifter.

It'd be nice if they would do that. My old boss had a 2013 F150. His I believe, always displayed 1-10 and would high-light whichever gear it was in. I thought it was neat and was disappointed when my 2014 Tundra couldn't.

finding your posts super helpful and am of the mind to try and manually reset the TCU with the learning procedure you've outlined above. Is this the full procedure or is there a TIS export somewhere that has all specific steps?

I don't have much hesitated acceleration from a stop - normally. I have some very weird shift behavior under moderate throttle where it seems (to me) the TC sticks and has a hard time unlocking in the lower gears. Lately I've found myself with a heavier foot so I don't have to feel what, to me, feels like a transmission going out. I haven't pulled the fill plug to check the color of the trans fluid YET, but I'll be shocked if it's not dirty with only 11k on the truck...

Mine did start after I drove about 150 miles with 3,000 in tow in tow mode. But since then I've had 2 weird (unable to replicate) instances where I've put the truck in drive and it doesn't move. The RPM's don't bounce as though it's in N though, seems it's under load when that's happened - but nothing moves... I have also seen a couple of FB posts with folks having this behavior when their trans went out. I will be taking mine to the dealer in the next couple of weeks and will report back nonetheless.

To me, it feels more mechanical than software related. My '17 Tacoma was plagued by poor trans code for the first couple of years I owned it, until they finally figured out the calibration. After that, the trans worked great for the next ~150k I drove it. I hope my issue is that simple but it doesn't feel like it. I also get LOUD metal on metal sounds when I put it in park sometimes - so much so that, with the windows down, my better half said "it sounds like your fancy truck is breaking.."

You can try the battery pull for 30 minutes or more to try to reset the trans memory, but the specific routine is in GTS+.

    For what it's worth:
Just got a brand new 2025 Tundra SR5 as a loaner today, while mine receives a heart transplant.

Thing has 1.4K miles on it - hesitation easily recognizable and reproducible, like on ours...

My dealer/service center tried that TSB above, Toyota told them not to do it, canceled the order and said write a TAS for it. Was told likely a new transmission but no word on that yet. Frankly Im used to it by now at 76K miles so pfffff. Regardless I let them know I wont have them attempt to fix it until I have the new engine in.

Correct. There is a Tech Tip (T-TT-0777-25) that specifically tells the technician to start a TAS case for any issues related to hesitation post T-SB-0111-22 or on newer (MID-2023+) trucks.

    Update:
Picked up my truck today after heart surgery - the patient survived!

What I wanted to say however is that in the 20 miles of driving on the new engine today (IKR?) I have experienced ZERO lag/hesitation.
I've done multiple and various stop-n-go scenarios, looking for that familiar feeling, and I have to say that so far it's nothing like it was before.
It's also nothing like the loaner I had for 1.5 days.

I know....perhaps too early to tell just yet. I'll chime in again if it "develops" the symptoms any time in the future.

I have noticed a lag that presents as a sort of see-saw in the fuel flow but mostly between 65-75 mph. My gas mileage seems a bit short too...

I've just started noticing a lag in my 2025 platinum. I'm able to reproduce it and it's generally when I'm coming to a slow/stop (say a yield or a stop sign) and at the last minute I decide to go for it and hit the gas pretty hard. The delay is incredibly obvious.. like 2-3 seconds where NOTHING happens. Today I puckered pretty hard trying to roll through a yield and the machine decided it was just not going to respond to throttle for 2-3 seconds...

    Big ole NOPE.

There are reports of the lag/hesitation still present even with the best pedal controller on the market, the Banks PedalMonster.

Thank you, sudo - should I reference the Tech Tip that you provided earlier when reporting this to my dealer? I will be bringing the truck in to have noisy brakes fixed under TSB and can mention it then

It can never hurt. The Tech Tip is very specific to what they need the tech to do.

well this is a bummer. I have a 2025 limited TRD OR and just hit 5k miles on it. I've noticed this lag for a while now and it's become a little concerning. Came to the forums to search this issue and found this thread... just got caught up and bummed to see it seems to be a known issue but no fix. It's very annoying yes but can definitely be dangerous in certain situations. I will stay tuned I suppose..
