I’ve got the Stillen on my truck. It’s not crazy loud. Looked to be the best option over the SABM mod. There was no way I was cutting up a new truck. All the other intakes either were hot air mods or had nothing to improve over the OE including the TRD. When you get the Stillen, make sure you follow the directions, they could use more explanation on mounting the lower section of the box.

That's kind of what I was thinking with the plug as well. My brother put a K&N CAI on his Tundra and he noticed some more responsiveness out of it, but the enclosed box is the main reason I was leaning towards the S&B.

I really think you should stay patient and test out that CAI. I feel like there's not much info about Stillen and they might be the real deal. Keep us updated!

To everyone bashing CAI, I believe you're all wrong! Tmw I'm getting my product so I'll
put an honest review about it.

The real question imo is what happens below 3k rpms? A majority of your driving is below 3k rpms.

I get that but at 381 horsepower, I really doubt you can feel a few horsepower missing at the bottom end. Many people who installed the S&B intake are really happy about it. There's only the odd few ones that will say they didn't benefit anything from a CAI.

Has anyone had any experience with AirRaid CAI? I had initially wanted to go with an S&B, but I have a really good deal on an AirRaid. I've never heard of them though, so any input would be appreciated.

I never had airRaid but i had the s&b all it really does was shift the power band higher. I lost some kick between 1400-2500 but at 3500 it kicked harder than ever. So now i have 2nd gen trd intake/cone style filter with sabm. And its a beast, alot more power than stock and s&b. But you cant run the trd intake without the sabm because those two together makes probably the best intake and its pretty loud. So pretty much like the stillen cai but with no codes because im also running bullydog..

Do you think the sabm would do the AirRaid intake some good. I just have an opportunity to get a really good deal on one. Somewhat of a budget move to get some performance.

Not to sure what the box looks like. Thats why trd is so cool because it uses stock lower box. Depends how big the airraid box is. I know you cant do it with s&b already tried lol.

Sabm is pretty much another 3in opeing, hell yea it would make that intake come to life. Its just how to make it work with the aftermarket intake might be tricky.

Well come to find out, the AirRaid intake wasn't actually a CAI. It wasn't actually even an AirRaid. It was an OEM airbox that someone had put in an AirRaid box :facepalm:he didn't know any difference apparently lol that being said, would you recommend the TRD intake over an S&B? What are the pros/cons of the TRD versus an S&B?

Ohh thats sucks umm definitely trd over s&b. I bought the s&b year ago. My first time driving with it on it was cool but lost torque down low for exchange more torque in the 4000rpm and up range. Seems like the computer adjusted to the intake. Than i put back the stock intake with sabm and low end torque came back but lost high end so i decided to buy the trd intake and man it made a difference. No dyno or anything but it has more torque throughout the rpm with the trd intake and with sabm than any intakes iv tried.. Also works well with bullydog.

That's what I'm looking for. I've been reading through some of the forum threads about them. Is the TRD air accelerator and the intake itself two different things? I saw that the TRD intake was only a few dollars more than the s&b, so that's not too bad.

It’s pretty much a little piece of plastic that connects the bottom portion of the airbox to the fenderwell where the air is drawn from. The TRD Accelerator is flared and seems to draw in more air than stock.

Some people buy that part separately and just attach it to the stock intake. I combined it with a K&N 57-9036 to make what’s effectively a “poor man’s” TRD.

I love my aFe Super Stock intake with the Pro Dry S filter.

I had just the filter in my 08 and loved that one too.

Ugh I just spent like two hours on this thing and I couldn’t get the lower section of the box secured so I just put my existing intake back in.

How did you get yours in? Everything else was flying along real quick until I got to that step.

The lower section of the box bolts into a unused nut in the fender. I chased it first to get the paint out of the way.

I did get my S&B intake today but during the installation, I lost a tube grommet for the air line so I'll make sure I go pick one up tmw. Everything looks really nice but they are not exactly like the previous models.
I was really stocked to go try it out tonight but I can't find that tube grommet under my truck :( It's stuck somewhere...

Does anyone know which size it appears to be by chance?

I think you're talking about the fuel line. I lost my Tube Grommet for the airline. I do have the plastic piece that connects to it just not the rubber part to seal it in the intake. So frustrating lol I went to Benson parts and bought a kit of GRommets and none of them fit in my tube grrrrrrrrr

Yea i know what your talking about now. That really does suck. Maybe try and call s&b to see if they will send you that grommet.

Turns out I just drank too much beer, it was late at night outside, overtired and when I uninstalled my intake this morning, the piece was right in my throttle body. All on me LOL

Anyways, all that to say I only went for 2 test drive so far and both were with the trap open and a outerwear on my filter. I really liked the pull from 2500rpm to 4000 rpm. It felt nice but it leaves me wondering if it would do better performance wise, with the box...sound wise, I love it!

Anywho, a few hours later, I went for a 2nd drive to test out fuel economy, just for fun. On eco mode, I always click history then update so it resets the mpg or l/100 km. In town, I usually do 21 liters / 100km and today it was 17 liters/100km.

On the highway, doing 50mph, it usually does 13 to 13.5 liters at its best and today, I was doing 12 to 12.5 liters per 100km. A nice improvement if you ask me on fuel mileage! Keep in mind, there was slopes in my situations.
If you convert it, I usually do 11mpg in town and now I'm at 13.8mph and on highway, 17.4mpg and now18.8mpg. Hey, I'll take it!!!!!!

Very impressed so far. The installation was ok. Honestly, I watched a few videos before so I didn't really read the instructions but the assembly was a bit different from what I've seen on videos. Maybe because I have a 2020? Ah well.

I went for a drive yesterday with the trapped installed. Honestly, I really didn't like it that much, it felt like stock but just a tad louder. The trap will have to get re-installed during winter as it snows non stop for 6 months or I re-install my stock one for winter. We'll see.

With the trap uninstalled, all I can say are positive comments about the intake. Like I said in my previous post, fuel mileage did improve and so did performance. If anyone as any questions, plz let me know and I will be glad to help you out. Cheers!

I researched this subject extensively, and found that unless you have added a forced induction system the factory cold air intake is the best. On a normally aspirated engine small power gains can result if the air filter itself is less restrictive, but only if the exhaust is also less restrictive. I verified this with a BAMuffler and a drop in AFE dry filter, this combo gave my 5.7L added responsiveness and acceleration.

Then why would I be getting better fuel mileage with this one? Care to explain?

Maybe your old filter was clogged.
