I heard they reinforced the side view mirrors to handle a tow strap.

I'm not saying they are perfect or don't make mistakes. There are plenty of Toyota vehicles that I wouldn't buy. That doesn't mean they are "the worst designers and engineers", though. That just means they aren't making what I want, and that's ok. The world doesn't revolve around me. Toyota doesn't give a damn what the enthusiast minority of Tundra buyers want because that doesn't drive their sales. When they poll customers and find that the majority of their buyers are primarily concerned with MPGs, infotainments, and smooth rides then they are being smart to move in that direction. The fact that the items you want aren't in the vehicle do not make them bad designers or engineers.

I will agree that they should have had tow hooks, and the best pitch for them would to have them be in any of the off road package trucks. They have stated that the tow hooks will be available, so is it really the end of the world that we have to wait a bit to see it? Maybe I'm just not as "brave" as you.

Call Toyota when you get stuck and ask them to come pull you out!

I am going to be that guy and play the devils advocate. Do you think that modification to the front bumper could be problematic in case of an accident? Let’s say the steel bumper does not crumpled as Intended by the Safety Bureau and now you are liable for additional damage, perhaps your insurance agency will object to coverages of modified vehicles? Just a thought, I’m not advocating for this of course. My truck is lifted and have plenty of mods……

Couldn’t agree more - just don’t get stuck. Not that hard to do. Especially in a Toyota with a rear locker. If you get stuck you are clearly in the wrong vehicle for your interests, you’ve done something you knew you shouldn’t do, or you’re in some serious snow in which case you can dig out or use rear tow hooks/hitch recovery point. I can’t believe this is a deal breaker for some folks! Sure it’s nice to have hooks up front, but I wouldn’t even think about it unless someone else said something about it? o_O

So... Southeast Toyota is doing their same dealership packages to upsell with their own bedside decals as usual. I just hope they scrap the "TSS" package to eliminate the confusion with the suite of safety tech that Toyota Corporate has dubbed TSS.

Nah, I think it's wrong for all the great reasons that have been stated here. The remote start is a head scratcher also. I'm sure there is more too........but......beating it to death and projecting ignorance on any buyer gets old. Maybe we should sport torches and burn down the factory and get it over with...geez

I’ll be honest, i laughed at and disliked the front end design when i first saw it but it did grow on me…then my $71k f-150 needed ANOTHER trip to the dealer and i went and put a deposit on one. My buddy who is a toyota nut is now laughing at me. See y’all at Toyota Jamboree

I don't see this as wholesale "shitting on buyers." People were expecting more; people (and we're ALL buyers really) are VENTING their frustration at all of the half-assed-ness of the changes, release and the nonsense that preceeded it. The problem here in the forum starts when other people (aka fanboys or whatever you want to call them) DEFEND Toyotas obviously lacking decisions and executions then ATTACK the people who are venting and trying to shame them and make them out to be whiners (or whatever you want to call them). Are some of the venting folks taking it a bit too far and trying to get people on a bandwagen? Yes, there is some of that going on, sure but since we all communicate in here without the NECESSARY HUMAN interaction (like body language, facial expression, tone of voice, fear of getting slapped for what you just said, etc.) that has literally preceeded societies and language itself, there will always be this form of escalation in these types of forums.

Yeah, I know, now I'm Dr. Phil-ing everyone! Sorry but it's so obvious and loud. The ones who do see it are enjoying the show from the sidelines, I promise!

I added my own remote start to my LC and at first I thought it was stupid and would be annoying, but it didn't take long that I no longer cared that it turned off. It's really not a big deal to me and does not affect the vehicle in any other way. Tow hooks on the other hand, you can't just work around that, either you have them or you don't and sometimes you need to yank from the front. As of right now there is no solution to that problem and hooking up to anything else in the front will probably rip off the lower bumper. But yes, I realize some might never need them for whatever reasons and otherwise the truck is awesome. Nothing is ever perfect.

At least it's not the Jeep forum where everyone is always fussing about what color the tow hooks are! Seriously, thanks for all the information I have gleaned from all of you. I have decided to trade my 2018 Rubicon in on a 2022 Tundra, supposed to be here next week. I can see that Toyota has determined that the best money is not with the off-road crowd. Lots of competition there with Jeep Gladiator/Bronco/etc. But its a shame, because, well, reliability. That's why I'm trading the Jeep for likely my last new vehicle purchase. I'll have to satisfy my mud/climbing/fun impulses with a ORV. At least the Tundra will pull it well. Thanks again, everyone!

Why would they fight over colour? The only proper answer is red. Obviously.

[mine came in black which is the wrong colour]

Use the locker and get some traction boards. I drove a Dodge 2500 that didn’t have them, and survived.

Black. nearly identical to my 2019 but for the interior color. Just placed an order for the Method 705s in black, and going to wrap it in 295/70/18 ST Maxx tires. Hopefully it'll fit stock suspension for a while until the 6112/5160s are released.

Every time I "upgrade" my equipment, I "upgrade" the likelihood of getting more stuck.

Over the years I've added skid plates, BFG KO2s, rear locker, off-road lighting, Bilsteins, recovery gear, etc to my current truck. It always had easily accessible recovery hooks.

During my ownership of the truck, as it's been upgraded, I have become increasingly more likely to get it stuck. I've got friends who Jeep up in the PNW, and I take my FS, crew cab 4x4 out with them often. We all expect someday I'm going to overdo it, and I think they don't mind, seeing as how we can easily hook up to the truck with all of the various gear people bring. It's part of the challenge.

Anyway, my point is, lockers, better tires, etc just motivate some people to get "more stuck"

as a long time off-roader, this is very true statement. I never got stuck until I had a winch.

    simple, you don't...

that overhang and the fact that any attachment point would be buried and low and well into the underneath of the truck would make for damage for sure.

Or just being stuffed in a rut or mud where you can't get under the nose to find a frame member or control arm, and getting at the truck from behind isn't feasible. Happens all the time. Better bring a shovel!

Honestly I don't know. toyota said they will be an accessory, Im not buying that. I think they forgot them and got too far down teh design process and then said shit, well they will be an accessory "coming soon"

we've all seen underneath the truck, there is just not a place to mount them to get them out in front of the truck at all so they don't get buried the second you get into anything

plus the tow hooks if they made an area for them to stick out the front would likely break up that huge grill BS and look better, IMO
