That’s because it would hit the year-round snow when it lowered, right?

So these “experts” don’t really know is how I’m interpreting this for now.

Assuming Aisin isn’t building transmissions out of mystery metal for Toyota, I don’t think there’s as much to worry about as everyone thinks. Quality steel alloys aren’t going to be annealed and lose their heat treatment at 260 degrees, I don’t care how often or how long they experience that temperature. Same for the silicon rubbers gaskets and seals.

If we want to worry about anything in particular it’s the service interval for the Toyota WS transmission fluid or equivalent. Maybe if you tow a lot and see transmission temps up in that 230F+ range frequently you have the fluid changed more often. That is probably a solid plan, even though the fluid is good for higher temps. My guess is that guys towing around 8,000lbs will be fine even driving near the speed limit pulling mountain grades. Maybe they dump the transmission fluid and change it out once a year as cheap preventative maintenance?

For those wishing to pull a 10,000-12,000lb trailer all over the country and up mountains you have two choices:

1.) Drive your Tundra more conservatively up and down those steep grades to keep temperatures in check, and push up your maintenance intervals to reflect the abuse you’re putting on all your fluids.

2.) Buy a bigger truck. This one is both the best answer, but for a Toyota fan the hardest pill to swallow since Toyota won’t give us a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton. At the end of the day the bigger truck has all those things a 1/2 ton doesn’t to make towing easier, safer, and less taxing on the equipment. Everything from the axles to cooling package, and everything in between.

We could conduct a lot of mental masturbation on what a Tundra HD would or should look like. Sadly not gonna happen.

What’s the difference between Multi terrain monitoring and panoramic view monitoring? Is mtm a standard limited feature? It seems every limited i have seen has it even though I can’t find it in a package and it’s shown as a option as a package..

After seeing a ton of videos of these trucks, they're really starting to grow on me. Come 2023 model year, I may have to trade my 2021 in. Hopefully for the second model year Toyota makes some adjustments to some of the small styling details. Namely, the fender flares. Why does the 1794 come with gloss gray painted flares (regardless of the truck color) and the Platinum come with gloss black painted flares (regardless of color)?! Just make them color matched or plain black plastic :notsure:

I'd also love to see a color match package (like what's found on the SR5 TRD Sport) available on higher trim levels.

I dont think the online build tool is working correctly. There are dealer stickers that have combined packages but you cant combine packages with the online build tool, at least for my zip code. Check out the video below explaining the cameras.

No specs are clear on this, but based on my research I think it's almost the same but the difference is the front camera views that are a bit lower - so you can check the ground for off-roading.

Good luck with what? There are entire threads with 2022 enthusiasts stating towing mpgs didn't matter because the majority dont tow, they do weekend projects and commute.

Honestly, with exception of the edge cases I think you could argue that the Maverick is an overall better truck for the majority of the 1/2 ton community.

    A bunch
Towing 11k or 12k doesn't matter, at that range an HD is much better suited to it. But only towing 4k lbs, throw on 2 quads and a solid trailer and you're overweight.

I don't get the point of the Maverick - when my wife had a Tucson we weren't fretting over the lack of a bed, we didn't like the cramped space and lack of power. If it had a bed it would have just been worse. How many times on here have people said someone would be better off with a Sequoia over a Tundra? It's more one sided at the CUV level, get the CUV body to get more covered space, don't waste time with the bed.

Those trucklets, Santa Cruz and Maverick, the rated payload needs to be equally distributed throughout the vehicle. It's in their owners manual.
You can't put 1400 pounds in the bed of one, per the owners manual.
A FS truck can have all of it's payload, save the driver, just in the bed.

I think the Santa Cruz is limited to only 661 pounds in the bed, the remaining capacity is to be spread out in the cabin.
    https://jalopnik.com/what-is-the-real-payload-of-the-2022-hyundai-santa-cruz-1847519398

Point is, the Tundra and all FS half-ton trucks can easily handle a home improvement run of over 1000 pounds in the bed, without exceeding manufacturers recommendations.

Doesn't mean you can't load a trucklet over 1000 in the bed, I've seen a Civic get loaded to 1000 in home improvement supplies.

i wonder if having the second key fob hidden under the truck would cause any issues with this truck? My understanding is the truck only directs the fob inside the vehicle?

Can you add dealer accessories at any time down the road? I just confirmed my build last week of a White TRD Sport and it only has weather floor mats and stainless steel door edge guards (which I'll probably take off anyways) as far as dealer accessories go but I wanted to add the TRD running boards and black Tundra insert badge eventually. Can I just go through my dealer whenever I want to do that?

Should be able to get parts, but my experience has been that the price may be higher and labor added for certain items. Something like side steps or Mats should be a non issue but something like tow mirrors that are a small upcharge at time of build can be over 1k just for the mirrors plus labor, it was a hard lesson.

I would assume that the dealers will have these items in stock soon for purchase. Either dealer installed or purchase for diy. I bought TUNDRA insert badges off ebay for my prior 2020. Looked like good quality and way cheaper than dealer

Has anyone hear anything about Toyota's production? Are they ramping production up to meet demand or is the chip shortage putting a slow crawl to production. I ask because dealerships in my region have not receive a second allocation yet. They say they normally get an allocation twice a month from Toyota. So far they are only seeing the first allocation being filled and nothing on the horizon. What is everyone seeing in their area? I am still waiting on getting my order in once they know what is coming in on the second round.

Toyota claimed there is no shortage and they are building a record number of vehicles this month. My local dealership is getting allocations every 2 weeks. Trucks will be pretty easy to find a month from now. But most dealerships are still just getting in there first trucks.

Keeping on-topic for 3rd Gen, it has a "puck" like the '19 - '21. Not the air-to-ATF like previous Gens Tacomas, Tundras, Lexus, Land Cruisers, V8 4Runners. The air-to-ATF trans cooler was a bragging point on those trucks and SUV's.

OK, answering your question, I haven't seen internet discussion about premature trans problems for '19 - '21's. OTOH, they're not piling up mileage yet with people going 100k+ miles on the original ATF and towing often.
