I assumed it did. I mean if it's $3995 + you have to pay dealership labor rates -----------gtfo. That's absurd.

    i understand that.

TFL is hardly Motortrend level vehicle reviews.

Their reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt. They often get things wrong and they are biased in their reviews.

I don’t think anyone should base their next vehicle purchase on what TFL has to say.

I watch them for fun and they are entertaining.

I am going to give my two cents on a couple of things. Let us start with the Remote start with the key fob. I think it is in my opinion very dumb that you need a subscription for a button that is actually on your keyfob. My Buddies Ram 2500 that I am using and my Camaro with the start buttons on the remotes do not require a sub unless you want to start it from the app on your phone like the MyChevy app. If they are going to require a sub to remote start just don't put the button on the fob and just have the button on an App like our Subaru Legacy has.

For the Ike Gauntlet video I linked a couple pages ago or so. I wanted to have time to think about it and here is my final thoughts on it. Assuming the computers are close to accurate the Tundras TTV6 did better on FE than I thought it would prior experiences towing with a TTV6 in a Ford netted me 2-3 mpg less than my 5.7 Tundra did towing the same loads. I want to say if indeed the computer is accurate in the FE good job Toyota.

The next thing is 2500 Rpms towing 8100 pounds up the ike is really impressive for a gasser and I don't think any other gasser they put on the Ike did that. This showed me just how capable this new Tundra was and it was awesome to see and hear that they had plenty of power on reserve.

As for the Ram I know some won't like what I have to say about it but for an NA V8 that Hemi and 8 speed still impress me it never fails to do under 8 minutes every time it goes up the Ike that I have seen/remembered on their videos. That 8 speed is one of my favorite truck transmissions out there.

While I am also annoyed with the Tow hooks not being on a Tundra I don't think it should have been a score option for a towing test and should have been for the offroad only test. I do agree for Value both trucks are just insanely priced for the options you get in them. I also think between the two of them they both did a great job with the downhill since they tied but going up the Tundra was the clear winner 100%. While the Ram for an NA engine did have 20% more throttle available which is damn good for an NA V8 the Tundra was at 2500 rpms with way more available and it seemed to handle the load a bit better with less sag. EDIT: Whichever truck you choose though are more than capable for the job in the half ton class though can't go wrong with either one. Assuming no biases of course. :)

And who operates at the journal excellence that passes your test? The StraightPipes? Savagegeese? The Doug score?

TFL seems to be the only real serious testers out there. Because the Tundra didn't score the way yall hoped, I think a lot are happy to find reasons to try to discredit their opinions.

It was a tow comparison. The scores were based on the trucks as a whole. Not sure why that's so hard for people to grasp.

Usually the dealer options are priced with labour but without taxes. I would assume this would be the case here as well but who knows... maybe it's a Canadian thing.

There is no remote start dedicated button on the key fob.. weather or not you loose the button start sequence ability in the key fob with out the subscription is still a little unknown as there so much mixed info.

That I could see. i know most accessories here like bed covers, running boards ,etc are priced without taxes and labor. But materials, tax and labor will push that lift to over 5k . With the only true benefit being factory warranty backed.

As others have said I wish they would have done a 50 - 60 test while towing up the Ike . I think the new Tundra has drive by wire now same as the Ram so it would’ve been a lot more informative as to how much throttle there actually was in both trucks .

The disdain for the new Tundra in this forum the past few days is strange to me. It's not the perfect truck (fwiw the perfect truck will never really exist), but it's crazy that so many people log on just to point out every flaw it has over and over again. If you don't like the truck that much, go buy a competitor and enjoy their forums. I'm not saying you have to love the new Tundra or even purchase one, but to act like Toyota completely missed the mark when they improved in virtually every crucial area compared to Gen 2.5 is baffling.

I guess it depends on your definition of "improved".

I personally do believe they took a step back.

In specific areas, sure. I don't see how anyone can say that it objectively took a step back overall though.

    More power
    Improved MPG
    Better towing
Upgraded technology (a lot can fall under this point)
More capable off-road (also a lot can fall under this point)

Are they going to make it in mens? Without the tech and nannies? Sealed beams and textured plastic?

I don't have a huge problem with how they tested, but I don't think their current methods allow for much separation between trucks. So the winner comes down to silly things. All trucks are able to perform on this test now so they need to come up with new bench marks such as a 50-60 time on the hill or transmission temps etc.
As far as the tow comparison is concerned, my thoughts are that this was a tow comparison so only those things that affect towing should be taken into effect. My understanding is that this test was part of a larger "best truck" competition that included off-roading and drag racing etc. They dinged the Tundra on the off-road course for not have tow hooks rightfully so, but now they are doing it again on the tow test. No need for doubling the knocks. My other argument with their test is it didn't seem like the Tundra was given credit for the things it did well. It beat the Ram in acceleration, stability, and overall towing ability, yet from watching the video, it lost a towing test because of tow hooks.

But it wasn't a towing test. It was a 60k truck comparison, with real world towing scored and demonstrated.

It's confusing yes, but they scored the trucks as a WHOLE. Not who towed best. Which the Tundra seemed to tow better overall.

To me the Ike Gauntlet test is specifically a tow test. They are doing other test to see how the truck performs overall, they have already done an off-road test, they have driven it without towing, they will be doing a mpg loop, they mentioned they will be using it for several things over the next year. That will give the overall results, but this particular video was specifically a towing test and how it towed and that's what it should be rated on. I agree in their overall ranking, the tow hooks and value etc should all be taken into effect, but this was not an overall test of the truck, just the towing portion of that overall test. On the off-road test, I didn't hear them say anything about well it didn't tow as well so we are going to knock it for that, they were just judging it on off-road driving, this should have just been based on towing.

The ‘02 tundra had up to 7200lbs tow cap.

if i make my way up there in ‘22, id like to borrow 7200lbs of trailer.

I wanted an all new Sequoia. When I saw this truck's ugly design(subjective I know), heard about the longer vehicle, smaller interior, worse turning radius (big factor for me), middle of the road interior finish, real world 18 mpg, no tow hooks (I travel to heavy snow locations).

I felt the truck took a step back and this new TNGA platform is underachieving vs. the competition.

Toyota didn't make an "excellent" or even a "great" truck. They made a "good enough" truck which sucks, and that is pretty apparent to most.

Folks, that isnt the TRD lift, thats a spacer lift from the prior gen that they tossed on there, nothing more than a cheap aluminum puck with new wheels and tires

TRD pro sits higher, has heavier tires, and that fake hood scop has to drag down its coefficient of drag

New Tundra is a great truck.

New Tundra is not the best truck.

New Tundra is better than the old Tundra.
