Two steps forward, one and three quarter steps back. I'm finding similar issues with my 21 F150. No deal breakers so far but the nav in my 15 ram works far better, the night camera views are too dim to be of much use (daytime is fine so I find myself turning off my headlights to get a better 360 camera view) and some other small issues.

More curious on why it would be that far off what was published.

Uphill? Houston to Wichita falls ain't much of a climb(maybe 700 feet over 375 miles) and got 18.6 Have made that trip many times and would not be surprised to see my 15 Tundra 5.7 get within 1 MPG or less of that.
However, he did later say he was driving "high speed" very possibly it that explains it.

I did see this video where it looks like he is doing 63 mph and trip meter says 24 mph, but who drives like that the highway? In many situations, not even safe. In TX State Troopers will ticket for driving 15 mph under speed limit for impeding traffic. (TX the land of 85 mph speed limits and you know "Born in Texas" JK)

Oh well, I'm sure more reports are coming soon on real world, too soon to pass full judgment.

It's a great upgrade from the previous gen but I can see how the updates aren't class leading. The reliability factor will be there but initial quality and materials are on par with the previous gen.

Also forgot to add, the rear room is made worse by not having a flat load floor. The hump is pretty significant and for me with my 6 year and 4 year old it would be an issue.

I will say if you are purchasing as a family truck I wouldn't get the hybrid. The underseat storage is great. It's deep, it has partitions and it's the full length. But it's really the only interior storage. The glovebox is meh, the center console area doesn't have too much, especially if your truck has the console safe. Losing that rear seat storage is huge imo. They only hybrid I would get would be a Pro because it's a Pro, but even then it'd have to knock my socks off.

seems like its kinda underwhelming from all of this, especially considering the platinum is WAY more money this time around.

how was the entry to the front seating area at your height (same as mine), is it the same fold in half fiasco ?

is the interior of the platinum as miss match of materials still?

makes me want to go look at the 2022 GMC AT4 page again, lol.

Getting into the front isn't bad at all. It's pretty easy, easier than previous gen. The rear is worse because it's not as wide.

It's a great improvement over the previous gen that's for sure. The interior isn't that mismatched it's pretty nicely themed. Only thing I would say is off is the blue accents and perforations. It's not a bad truck and is a good option to upgrade from the prior gen. But for me personally it just confirms my disappointment that it shrunk inside but grew 5 inches outside.

Oh and it wasn’t a capless fuel tank. Thought that was kind of old tech. No locking fuel door, okay. But at least be capless filler

I could be wrong (and I'm definitely not one of those who is opposed to owning a true 3rd gen Tundra in the future), but it almost seems like aside from mileage and a decent power bump....those are the only *true* advantages of owning a 3rd gen. Everything else I'm hearing is sort of a 'nice to have' but not a 'world-beating' feature, so to speak.

ya there isnt a good pic of the platinum interior thats a real pic, all that CGI crap.

that blue accent interior is partially why I would go with a blueprint truck, I think it would tie that together better.

on other colors I could see how that would be bad, especially the 1794 blue light on the wood and light interior, way out of place. I cant believe you cant change the color.

I wish I could have drove it so I had a better full opinion but for the money they are asking and especially markup, I'd 100% shop the competition. MSRP to MSRP it's a good buy but the big 3 are starting to ease up with rebates, discounts and special financing already. Again, I haven't driven it and that's a big factor. It's also got a higher predicted reliability than majority of competition.

I will also add that the screen is not intrusive. It's big but visibility is still great and it makes it easier to see on screen as you're not taking your eyes far off the road and doesn't impede the line of sight.

It's almost never cost effective to trade in a vehicle you already own for one with better fuel economy, especially within the same class.

thats one thing I have been thinking about. when the market returns to more normal operations, now that Toyota is pretty much the same MSRP are the others, how will toyota handle it when the big 3 offer all that money off and 0% and so on. That will be interesting to see when the time comes.

reliability is important for sure, but its not the only factor, features, price, and comfort matter also. I don't think people will pay 5-10K more for a tundra when teh other start discounting again.

Capless filler just makes it harder for me to dump my jerry can in the truck at the end of the summer. I don't see the appeal. I'd much rather have a locking fuel door but I don't think any pickup gets one for whatever reason.

my personal opinion is the Tundra at least my offroad version is too tall for a roof rack.

I just sold my 21 Pro and picked up finally my custom lariat that has the same exact offerings of the platinum tundra except digital review mirror, vented rear seats, and brake hold (obviously rear suspension and engine choice is different too. ) My msrp was 66,800 I paid 57,880. I wouldn't have bought it at MSRP but for $57.8k it's got great value. Obviously quality and reliability pending.

really appreciate this . you confirmed some of the things I was worried about especially the lack of flat floor in the back due to the tunnel.

it's there and at first glance seemed taller than the previous gen. It could be the more compact space gave it the illusion too.

Reminds me, the platinum has rear occupant sunshades for the windows, those were nice.

I will say for newborns this truck is better. The reduced sized side and rear windows = less chance of direct light. Sunshades cover the whole window so that’ll help a lot.

EPA highway is not rated at 75 mph it’s more like 55. And if he was averaging 75 then he was probably doing a bunch of 80+ and who knows how he was driving. Personally our highways are rated for 60 most places. It’s rare I drive over 70. Ya if your driving 80 all the time you will be disappointed in a truck if you think it should get it’s rated highway mileage.

The salesmen I talked to seem knowledgeable- most of what he said was pretty accurate. He said Toyota for the hybrid expects its to release at a rated 24mpg.

do you think the stock height is worth getting running boards for? Never been a fan as they usually get damaged off pavement but if it’s a climb in maybe they are worth it for this truck?

It depends, I personally don’t think they’re needed but I also wouldn’t want to rub and smash the bolsters getting in and out.

If you got kids, are short or heavy set they’re prob needed.

the platinum retractable boards were pretty nice. Good for kids and short folk.

thats what I was going to get, I think the retractable steps and the power bed step are nice and really not a huge expense since they are packaged with the air rear, AVS and HUD for like 3K.

I think its probably right. its likely a 24/24 rating type deal. good for city, not so much for highway.

for me, I live in open areas so going from 22 to 24 highway and 100 lbs of torque isn't worth losing storage, gaining complexity, and the 3-5K it will be to upgrade.

Im a hard pass on the hybrid most likely.

The rear bed step was great. Perfect height and extended out far enough to step in . A lot easier than my f150 step that's a damn contraption. The tail light button is also cool. But make sure you are not parked near something. it fully goes down with some force with that button.

Im not, and likely not buying it.

it wont be worth the 3-5k up charge for 100 lbs of torque non-city and non towing heavy all the time

No way it will be $5k, $1.5-3k at the high end. Would be so out of line with Toyotas hybrid pricing.
