Official 2022 Tundra 3rd Gen Thread

What type of vehicle do you need for commute. A corolla or even a RAV4 lease is sometimes available for almost next to nothing. That might be an option. I am looking at a RAV4 right now as a second commute vehicle to save the Tundra miles and gas.
You can even buy a RAV4 and sell it in a year for probably what you paid.

 

After further deliberation I am now leaning towards trying to find a well optioned 2022 SR5 for around $55k MSRP and rolling with it for a few years before making the jump to hybrid. My dealer has a TRD Sport coming that fits the bill but it's black. May wait on a different color.

I think if I didn't want to keep the Jeep, I would probably sell the Jeep as soon as it was running and buy a high mileage beater Tundra to drive for 6 months until I could get what I want, and then sell the beater Tundra for what I paid for it or more. Or better yet, an older Tacoma and then when you get the Hybrid Tundra, you can park the Tacoma at the beach house and it will serve the same purpose as the Jeep.

You can also get a Gen 1 Tundra pretty cheap these days as well, I mean if all your going to do is drive for 6 months it doesn't have to be perfect.

Heck if the Jeeps issue is just an intermittent one, roll it into carmax or a dealer and send it down the road and save your repair money.

 

I considered it strongly and that was my initial thought process. The issue I found myself worrying about was as the price decreases, the chance of something major tearing up in the next 6 months increases. Older Tundra's are reliable as hell but once you cross that 200k mark in mileage it becomes dicey no matter how reliable the truck is. A lot of shit can go wrong, and shit going wrong is the whole reason I'm in the situation with the Jeep. I was trying to eliminate the potential risk of that by going the safe, potential long term solution of a newer model. We'll see. I've got a rental until the Jeep gets back from the dealership charging me an arm and a leg probably, and told my dealer that I no longer wanted to wait on a Hybrid and to be on the lookout for a well optioned SR5 for me. He said next round of allotments were next Monday. Maybe we'll have a damn configurator by then.

My plan is to get a quote from the dealer on repairs and then counter with them buying it straight up instead.

 

Doing the same, talked to my dealer on Friday & ordered a Rav4 XLE, any color but silver.......absolutely hate silver on a vehicle.

 

I'll let you rent my 1994 4x4 Hilux for $10/day until you know what you want to do in the spring. I guarantee you it won't shit the bed like your Wrangler did. I need help getting it up to 300,000 miles.

For sure, mine is only 1100lbs and without all the tech and 6.5ft bed.

Makes sense to me, they've got no data on anything for this truck and Sweers' last "redesign" didn't go super smooth. 2016 Taco has some pretty garbage ratings from CR so based on that I'm not surprised they slid the Tundra down and aren't recommending it.

 

Or these guys love “American” made trucks and are pushing that direction. Haven’t watched their video, but one quick look of the guys face told me everything I needed to know.

Here’s what the going price for a limited is. Shit theses are only 389hp 479tq. Add 8k for the motor we all want. Might have to pick up 3 jobs to buy one As for pro with bigger motor I’m sticking to 70k. Yeah who I’m kidding never going to happen for me, keeping my 2020

 

Buying a truck will get even more expensive

One thing that many of us are not calculating with the price of these trucks is this horrendous new bill coming up and you think shit is crazy now just wait Q3 or Q4 of 2022 things are going to get worse. You see inside this new (BBB) fruid frack frucker Bill for trillions of dollars is a little thing called Subsidy’s… in this bill is a provision that gives people $12,000 to buy an electric car.

Look when ever they do this shit (subsidies) the cost of everything in that market goes up. ⬆️
Look at student loans - the cost of tuition went up.⬆️ Look at Medicare the cost of medicine went up ⬆️
This is utter insanity , the cost of all cars (this includes trucks) in the near future is going to go thru the roof.

The 2nd gen. was a 15 year old platform. That bar was so low an earth worm could barely fit under it.

 

I know plus 12k tow. I really want to see and test drive the 437hp 583tq. Then maybe get the 3rd job, better yet ask my leaders in charge to give my taxes back lol. But for theses prices tundra owners will look in the 3/4 tons for same prices with diesels. If I have to choose one of the other I thinking gmc no fords, dodge, or chevy even though gmc is part of but looks nicer.

 

So many people excited to spend +60k that the internet will not be able to contain them!!

Actually it's a $4,595 (9.7%) MSRP increase from 21 to 22 for Limited Crew 4WD

 

I see that now, I was using MSRP on the build site that includes the minimum package allowable for the '21

 

there are also a lot of us who do not want the added size (huge factor for me), complexity, added cost and maintenance, etc of a diesel full size truck.

A few years ago when I was driving 40+k a year towing a trailer for work I wanted a GMC 2500 something fierce, with all the creature comforts. I built out an excel sheet that broke down initial cost, fuel costs (this was when diesel jumped up suddenly and never recovered), maintenance costs and def/ filters, vs a few other 1/2 ton trucks and the diesel always lost.

for those folks hauling big heavy loads a diesel makes sense, but beyond that it isn’t functional. Our trailer weights 3,500 wet, my jet boat weights 3,100 with full tanks and my drift boat is under 1k. Full size trucks suck to drive around town and park and have a terrible ride until they are loaded. We do a ton of overlanding and a 2500 would be a major hinderance dimensions wise.

 

I agree with this sentiment as well. A lot of comments on here have suggested that half tons have gotten so expensive that you're a dummy for not getting a super duty at the same price since they have better payload/towing numbers. While that is true, there is a large percent of the population that just wants a decent truck and never even cares about the towing or payload numbers. I fall into that category. I'll more than likely never tow anything close to 10k or haul anything over 1k. I just want a solid daily driver that I can use to tow small toys when needed and haul stuff for when my wife goes crazy at the furniture store. I live in a big city and a super duty seems like the most inconvenient thing ever to me.

 

Sounds like a mid size is actually the perfect size for your description of usage....especially in the big city. I have owned 3/4 tons and mid size trucks in the city and the only time the full size truck was better, was if I was towing or hauling at or near its limits, otherwise the midsize was and still is a joy.

 

Mid size has never been a consideration for me really. Just doesn't feel like a truck at that point. I want plenty of room and space to haul kids/dogs one day on long road trips and be comfy doing it.
