Would add the weight of the right foot on the accelerator pedal has major impact to MPG. Additionally, High Profile vehicles with air pushing under the front end as well.

Agreed. South central Alaskan here where I go from hard pack snow / ice to dry pavement, varying speeds, flat to hills, etc in my daily driving where a quick application of power to the front wheels would be great. Extremely handy when driving vehicles with the feature.

Especially with how poor our traction control and 2wd winter performance is on our trucks. Have owned 01, 10, and now 18 Tundras. Even with snow tires.

With the very much improved redesigned interior w/ the beast of a 6.2L, new AT4 is an attractive truck. Can probably be had for a bit cheaper than comparable Pro as well.

On a vehicle with Full-Time 4WD there is no interference. It's simply engaged in 4WD at all times, there is no 2WD option and no decision to be made. On newer vehicles they have a 4-Auto option. I can guarantee you that "the truck" can make the calculation and decision to turn into 4WD a lot faster and more accurate than a human can sense wheel spin and then make a decision to manually reach their arm and hand to manipulate the button/dial to engage 4WD. A lot of people don't even know where all these buttons are and how to operate them and people's brains are always occupied with something else, talking to passengers, texting, eating or drinking coffee etc. All these things are a lot more interference to driving than a truck making decisions for them. I think FT4WD is fantastic and I have them on my Land Cruiser and previous 4Runner. 4-Auto should be there as option at minimum.

Then shift back to 2HI, then back to 4HI depending on pavement conditions. Been there, done that. More sensible to have selectable auto 4HI, fulltime 4HI whatever term one chooses.

Let's look at the '19 Sequoia - there's a twistknob that allows 2HI, 4HI, 4LO. 4HI mode I can drive it on any pavement 24/7/365 if I choose, don't have to bother going back and forth 2HI to 4HI. If I want to emulate part-time 4HI I push the CDL button to lock the front to the rear. VSC Off button to turn the nannies off and get the tires spinning. Has 2HI if I don't want the front axle dragging MPG down.

It's a great system. Simple, versatile, reliable, millions of miles on it in Land Cruisers, 4Runners, Lexus. Auto 4HI option is an industry standard now in 1/2 tons, just seems goofy to me Toyota ignored it.

I blame you enablers ;). Every time you enablers support Chief Engineer Sweers cost cutting dude is encouraged to cut out something else.

    For example..

I get the new Tundra because I want 19mpg and use regular gas. My existing 6.2 guzzles gas at 14mpg and requires premium.

Sounds like I would save a ton with the Tundra, right?

Driving 10k a year, with reg at 3.05 and premium at 3.60, gas would cost me $18 a week less with the Tundra.

    $18

People spend more than that on grabbing McD's for lunch.

For me, 2021 Tundra > 2021 GMC AT4. But I value my truck being available to use and doing what I need every time I push the start button. Nothing comes close to that criterion for me. Spend time at both forums, and if you’re looking for hassle-free ownership, the choice is pretty clear.

2022 Tundra ??? 2022 GMC AT4. Need more info. I would want to know that several issues have been addressed by GM. There’s nothing brand new about the TTv6 Toyota is using; it’s probably going to be extremely reliable right out of the gate. Toyota tune their engines extremely conservatively. Will it go as long-term as the 4.6, 4.7, and 5.7 v8s? Who knows? Is that a factor for you? Looking at each company’s track record, my money is on the new Tundra staying away from the dealer much more than a new AT4.
It’s all about perspective. $1605 yearly vs $2571…yeah, that comes out to $18.50ish per week, but it’s also almost $1,000 per year. Think about what that $1,000 per year could do over the next couple decades in a decent portfolio.

I’m in the same boat. I’m not overwhelmed by the refresh after 14 years vs cost and vs competition. I love my nearly 400,000 km Tundra but the ‘22 Denali HD is more of a truck for not much more. I’ve never owned a modern NA truck, friends have 1/2 tonne Fords and Rams and I’m not impressed. The GMC Denali HD has some appeal, what do folks think by comparison?

I would do some research before making that decision. I've heard of a lot of people having issues with the lifters and transmissions on the new trucks. I'm not sure how prevalent it actually is, but I've heard several stories.

I’m intrigued by the GMC line as well. I really like the look of them and the 6.2 liter seems like a decent engine. But, my research so far has shown that there is a lot of issues.
At the end of the day, I’ll go with the new Tundra because I have never been let down with a Toyota and I value reliability over everything else.

I agree, its range that will be the qualifier/dictate the fleet switchover. At least in Canada there is a very sparse public charging network outside of built up areas and major traffic routes. Add the time to charge vs refill tank & time is $$ for business. Personal use, very impatient to wait to charge at every stop for a long trip. If under load the range drops that bad, than....Nope...I think everyone is out. For regular commuting, and charging at home overnight - no issue.

Ice is MPG (L/100Km) but for all electric, range vs charge time will dictate the uptake by the users/the market.

No prices yet but local dealership has this sticker on 1794 and showing about 10 coming mostly sr5 crews 57-58k can’t see sticker on them my guess pro 65-70k 437hp 583tq still waiting on diesel which Toyota wants to deliver but my guess all electric in 3-5 yrs too much political bullshit in the US besides we’re way behind in technology. But time will tell. Look at South American electric started there maybe with 2gal fuel tank. We’ll use less gas and pay more electric at charge stations. Just make one the charges itself use gas when need to start up cold weather. Otherwise I now see prices to charge will still be like buying gas. 10 yr on batteries 150k Toyota states. I believe 14 on batteries with Toyota technology because there precisely in making reliable product and there too the book.

my sticker and 2yrs later. Imagine 2022 sticker to 2024/2025.

Wow $66k for a 1794. If that’s the case the pro will definitely be at the $70k mark and the capstone might be $75-80k. That’s pushing the HD diesel range with 450hp and 1000ft torque.

Seen this posted as first tundra in the south east. Base sr5 with color matching around the grill? What?

The wheels and grill is a dead give away that this is not a sport. This is a base SR5. Paint match grill surround and paint match handles. But the top trim gets shiny ass chrome.

Driving to San Antonio right now on I-10 and just saw a transport truck on the other side heading East loaded with 2022 Tundras. They should be on the lots soon. Figures that I didn’t have my phone ready.

My dealer said getting color matched components at least after receiving the truck shouldn’t be a problem. But not many dealers seem to know much of anything about these trucks. I plan on doing a color match job to the grill and bumper on a trd off road. But now do we even know what the trucks look like lol

Yeah, certainly seems like there's at least an option to get that colour match without going to either the Sport or the Pro.

    ok

After re-reading the spec sheet for the millionth time, I noticed that it says:

    SR5 Outer Frame Color (Color-Keyed)

    Inner Grille (Black Horizontal Bar)

This means all SR5's outer frames come color keyed EXCEPT the SR5 TRD Off Road. This comes chromed.

I am certain a dealer would be happy to get you a color keyed frame on any trim level.

The current Ranger spanks the Tacoma and I expect the same with the next gen. Better MPG, Towing, Payload. It's a truck that was born in Australia, built for global markets, and built to beat the Hilux. The Tacoma is designed only for North America and has become softer and less utilitarian each generation. The Ranger was a late addition to the US market too, they only introduced it because the mid size segment was picking up. That platform has been around globally since 2011 and it still out performs 3rd gen 2016+ Tacoma's. I think you can see where Toyota USA is headed in regards to their truck market with the release of 3rd gen Tundra. Lifestyle truck, big wide mouth grills, and hipster folk singers. The new Tundra barely has more payload than the current Ranger. The Tacoma is likely following the same suit. Towing and payload numbers will likely be similar to the current gen with improved efficiency as their main focus. Meanwhile the Ranger will be partnering with ARB and have a library of parts. I think you can see where this is headed. That being said, I fully expect the Tacoma to be sales leader due to name and reputation.

That's always the response when something doesn't confirm what you want to believe, "XXX survey means nothing". And yet when a report favors a Toyota it's the first thing to be touted. The Turd Gen Tacoma, speaking of that vehicle only, has had below average reliability scores when it comes to Toyota's in general. Waiting another 10 years is not gonna flip the script. What I'd want to know is Tacoma driver satisfaction. Given that it requires pressing the ECT power button, a Pedal Commander, some aftermarket tune, re-gearing and a magnussen supercharger for it to drive properly I can't imagine that it's very high.
