I think you got something mixed up . . . I'm 100% sure that I heard from at least 3 sources that it's actually WIDER than the previous gen

a bit too lazy to search through the Tundra videos, but look here, from a quick Google search
    upload_2021-11-20_21-39-45.jpg
Here, it only says that the rear cross member is wider, although it's reported that the entire frame is wider to help with towing stability, as already mentioned

Anyone know what "Date of First Use" is on the VSPEC? Estimated delivery date?

No it was confirmed by Toyota teams it's narrower by couple inches when they had just the frame out one of the team members said it was narrower than the 2.5 gen. Yes the frame does widen in the back for more stability but overall it had to be skinner due to the land cruiser platform

It looks like I'll be able to get a 2022 at MSRP with no markup or required accessory add-on up-charges. Given these crazy times with the supply/demand of the automotive market being what they are and the rollout of the new 2022s being so delayed (a worst case scenario for us buyers), I have 2 questions:

    1. What is the typical discount within a given 12 mo timeframe that I could have expected in a previous normal market that had Tundras somewhat readily available?

    2. Realizing anyone's guess, do we realistically expect to have at least a 50% chance to see any discounts, rebates, cheap financing offers, etc. by the end of Dec. 2022?

Reason for my asking is that I need a truck and tax write-off by end of next year and if it's pretty much a slim chance I'll get anything for less than MSRP by then anyway, figuring I might be better off taking advantage of the additional $3-4k I'll get for my current truck than it would otherwise be worth.

Yes, it widens in the back for better stability and better towing. so you answered your original question. "Wonder how it will tow compared to the old gen"

I was doing this same research when I first joined here. I poked, prodded and dug around and found 12 to 14% below MSRP was an attainable number on the gen 2s. There was one fella insisting he got 16% below but I tossed that one since it was only one and the response I received via PM made me think I was talking to Gary Busey. I'm fairly certain these double digit discounts included rebates. I tried to verify the rebates were used in the calcuation but got cloudy answers.

When the smoke clears and dealers have stock (which I feel will happen much sooner than the doomsday-ers are predicting) I think I'd be satisfied with 10% off msrp and no BS add ons or extra fees.

Thanks!! That helps let me know that there's no rush to get into something, considering this tax year is pretty much out of the equation at this point (as long as I beat any major repairs on my existing truck). While of course still a guessing game in this climate, hopefully things will be a bit less cloudy going into next year. At least it seems we know what should be the pricing cap (for the non-hybrids anyways).

Now just need the pricing on the hybrid. Soon please Toyota!

If anyone else has any other insight on typical discounts, would be much appreciated as well!

Once again the new tundra frame is narrower than the 2.5 gen look at the video, if you didn't everything will make sense. He was explaining how they package the fuel tank, transfer case and exhaust on the tighter frame. Yes it widens in the back but probably only widens the width of the 2.5 gen frame more than likely. Remember this frame is on the Land cruiser hence why it's a tighter frame

Yow, that is a very busy engine bay! Hopefully the sparkplugs have a 100k mile change interval. I wonder if it has the SAIP that was such a nuisance on the 4.7l and early 5.7l.

I notice on the rolling chassis the hybrid battery cable is actually touching the front of the transmission, seen the same on videos. Not a good thing if it goes to production that way.

Best car buying experience I have ever had was when I went through Costco to buy my last car. I will always go through them to buy vehicles.

Can't remember who on youtube I watched but they came up with a pretty good theory about these outrageous markups. The theory was...that dealers want a vehicle on the lot to showcase and use for test drives. And because of the current market that makes it tough on them. So, they take a vehicle like this RAV4 Prime, which is in high demand, and mark it up sky high to actually keep people from buying it so they can use it. But of course, just like any good businessman, they do have their price, and that 96k is it.

I'm not sure how past discounts are relevant in today's market but 12-13% seemed to the common discount. My 2019 Platinum was discounted ~18% off sticker but it had a lot of high mark-up options. MSRP was $58k and sale price $47.

If and when I buy a 3rd gen I wouldn't expect any discount for at least a couple of years. I would probably get an SR5 next time and add Katzkin leather. I don't want a bunch of options that reduce payload.

My thoughts too. We're not going to get back to a pre-covid car market for 2-3 years unfortunately.

I don't think that's the case. I recently took a test drive in a vehicle that was in "demand" and they had three available for a test drive but not a single one for sale. You had to order one. I asked them about the test drive ones and they simply said they weren't for sale and when they did sell them they would go as demos.

this was my experience as well at one dealership, however i think it truly depends on the dealership (they all operate a tad different)

I was talking to my dealer last week. They had 5 2021 used tundras for sell and 4 2022 coming in soon. 1 of which is un spoken for still. From everything I’m hearing around the web. It doesn’t sound like getting the truck you want non hybrid should be a big deal this spring into summer. Don’t settle for over msrp. Unless you like that sort of thing.

Costco shows about $3k or so less than msrp for a vehicle thru their program. But, not a lot of configuration options yet. Looks like they have a few base configs you can pick/choose from so far.

I clicked through the Costco process for an SR5 crew max 6.5ft bed and it said there was no pricing programs with the dealers yet. Might be an area specific thing though.

Hoping it's not going to take that long as end of 2022 is my limit. Wouldn't surprise me though until we start to see some real signs it's getting better. Fingers crossed sooner rather than later...

    Thanks for the additional info!

Just built a 2022 Tundra on Costo's Auto buying program. Really can not understand why there is so much pricing info out there but Toyota will not put that info on their site. Come on already

Could you actually add packages? All I am able to do is select a trim. Pretty worthless.
