Saw only my 4th Tundra in person today. I've been a limited DC, two CM SR5s, and today I saw a Capstone. Holy crap. Who the heck can afford a Capstone in mid MI! After I picked my jaw up off the floor while staring, I started telling my buddy about the truck. He doesn't know anything about Tundras, but I assured him it was awesome. Lol

Almost 2,500 miles on mine and I still love it. Only a couple things I've noticed that I am not sure about:

The AC! Sometimes I just want to turn on the AC to *MAXIMUM POLAR* and blast my face with ice cold air. Mine doesn't really seem to do that, even with only the upper vents selected and the fan on high. The fan is a bit noisy.

The "OMG you're about to run over something" automatic braking "feature." I get that it's a safety feature and it's nice that I can disable it when I'm backing up to a trailer, but sometimes I really do want to move forward in a parking spot that has a shrubbery in the way. I'm not smooshing a child, I'm smooshing a juniper bush. Is there any way to disable or curtail that feature a bit? having it jam on the brakes while I'm parking near a bush is annoying.

This is what you can change in Techstream...but I haven't played with these yet myself, so I can't tell you if any changes to them in this section would make it less likely to freak out what you're that close to a burning bush.

I think this is more of a modern vehicle thing, not a new Tundra thing. If you compare the AC of a 2000 model year car with new vehicle, the new ones just don’t get as cold. Especially the ones with lower MPG figures.

My suspicion is that, much like how the government ruined gas cans and dishwashers, the government’s ever increasing CAFE standards causes the manufacturers to scrimp and save where they can in order to fractionally increase fuel economy. Reducing engine drag with smaller, less efficient AC compressors is a good place to do that.

I don’t think it’s a matter of engineer competency or some corporate conspiracy to maximize profits by offering poorer performing systems than those that were included in past model years.

I think it is simply that compliance with regulatory agencies such as the EPA is a constantly moving target. Will leave it at that.

Quiet fans, maybe not. But the required refrigerant changing to a more environmentally friendly compound that doesn’t quite blow as cold? You bet.

Older vehicles used R12. It blows 6-7ºF colder than R134a, but it is not as environmentally friendly. Toyota switched a few years ago, and it is noticeable.

If I have it set to Auto it's pretty quiet. It's only a bit noisy if I turn it up all the way. the noise level seems disproportionate to the amount of airflow.

It does get cold, yes, it just feels like some other vehicles I've driven had way more effective fans. it isn't a deal breaker by any means and it's likely some of it is my own personal perception and experience too.

“Per new EPA regulation, the long-used R-134a cannot be installed in new cars and light trucks built for domestic sale after 2021MY.” (Source).

The move is to R1234yf. And yes, it is my understanding that this is why your AC isn’t blasting cold as quickly as it used to when you start your truck.

Could you change the refrigerant out yourself? Assuming you could hands on the good stuff?

hi everybody. I'm new here. sorry if this is the wrong thread to post this question, but does anyone know of a dealers selling under MSRP? best I could do was autonation at msrp but then they added some BS fees and I moved on from them, my second source was leasehckr forums using a facilitator that can get me msrp but he charges a fee. I saw one other member here in NC that got 2500 under, just curious if I could replicate this somewhere else. thanks in advance.

Interesting that the MSRP on the website is higher than what I'm being offered including all the same options..perhaps lives have gone up ? :)

Anybody else just disappointed in the material choices to such an extent that you question the purchase? I've got less than 600 miles on my 2022 SR5 4WD and the plastic cabin rattles combined with the wind noise/whistling from either the sideview mirror (driver) or weatherstripping (driver) spoils much of the experience of actually using the car day to day. I think even the biggest of fans can admit that the center console does not belong in a decent car in 2022.

I'm happy with the materials, save for the rear door card armrest not matching the front. The rattles aren't that bad, but I drive a Jeep so I really can't make a fair judgement based on what a normal amount of rattling is. The SR5 is definitely going to have worse materials than a higher trim. If the limited is a big enough step up for you over the SR5 in terms of material quality, you should consider making the switch.

I agree, not justifying any issues here, but you can't buy an entry level trim and expect a premium/luxury experience

You would think the weatherstripping or sideview mirror wind noise as well as the tailgate rattling would not be trim specific. I can grant some lenience to SR5 on plastics, but the console really does repeat itself all up and down the trims in many ways. It's not too different in any trim. Hard to argue even a top trim third gen center console is nice when compared to most competitors.

Respectfully, that's total bullsh!t. No excuse for any of that in a $50K+ vehicle in 2023, especially a TOYOTA!

Just a short rant. I love my truck. I love driving it, sitting in it, looking at it as I walk away from it, and on my spare time I like to go on YouTube to watch videos to learn more about it. It is getting more and more difficult to find a video that isn't some dude going on and on bashing it as if it were a PT Cruiser with wood panels on the sides. I'm not one who cares too much about what others say, I'm just sick of the negativity surrounding this truck.

    Ok, I'm done...

It actually may be the spare tire chain. I have heard others say they zip tied it to stop it from moving around. It doesn't bother me so I haven't done anything to it.
