are you seeing a slow down and improvement as the production run gets more mature? Seems like it to me from what Im seeing and Im leaning 2023 will be fairly clean builds

We are also talking about a truck with alot of hype. In the past, people with issues just would take it and get it repaired under warranty. Now in the social media and influencer era, everyone wants to complain to whoever will listen.

As am I cause I really wanted a 3rd gen Tundra, there are some double posts but plenty that are not and certainly more than a handful. When you have Max Powell (was well known over on TW), other Toyota Youtubers like TRDJon, etc. saying hey this thing has issues its concerning. Its not just a select few, trust me I saw this same debate unfold on TW, all the old gen guys hating on new gen guys, for TW it was silly things like minivan engine and small issues like the bad CPS', diff hum and weird transmission logic, but it was consistent. On these new Tundras I've seen diffs, power steering, waste gate, cracked seats, screens missing pixels, rear diffs falling off, leaking sunroofs, etc. You would be in serious denial if you dont think there are quality issues and its not just a single part or design issue and this early on does not speak well to longevity. Not hating cause like I said I am a first year adopter and Toyota fan boy, but even I am like WTF and pausing, despite having the means and wanting the new Tundra.

Really not trying to stir the pot, but how do these people get ratings? Not another boring "here is the new 3rd gen Tundra" video. There are a million out there like that. They are gonna focus on something different to keep their watchers returning. I dont theink there are anymore QC issues than the next vehicle. My last truck was a 2021 2500HD Denali. It had a leaking sunroof, unravelling stiching, and loose weatherstripping. I didnt post all over the internet about it, I just got it taken care of under warranty. No issues after that.

Every YT'r I've watched, inclding TRDJohn, have had QC issues and it's clickbait material. No one has had anything catastrophic. And it is handful. Beyond the wastegate which was a supplier issue there haven't been any widespread major failures.

What about the guy who lost his rear axle, thats not a major failure? I'm not trying to argue but I think alot here are trying to minimize or argue away the lack of QC especially from Toyota.

"Every YT'r I watch" ......sorry don't follow someone with 322 subscribers who made a channel just for their Tundra issues. And if I remember right his was one of the axle anamolies they issued a recall for which I never saw as widespread as the wastegate.

The 3rd gen ain't perfect and they're still cranking them out with some QC issues it seems. It ain't perfect, and it won't be. But I'll roll the dice. I've never had a perfect car but I've never had to do a buy back or regretted my purchase............yet

No one is denying that happened. Just seems like a vanishingly rare issue. Dude got a ton of views, so of course he's going to start playing the YouTube game with the click-bait video thumbnails and the whole 9 yards.

Look at Pickup Truck & SUV Talk. The guy's name is Tim Esterdahl (I had to look that up). His videos seem to all be some variation of "Do I regret my 22 Tundra" with a thumbnail of himself allegedly deep in thought with his '22 Tundra in the background. Is he really still thinking about whether he made a good purchase? Of course not. He's simply trying to recoup as much of his truck purchase as possible by getting as many views as possible.

I've seen some hybrid issue malfunctions starting to pop up as more Hybrids hit the road, and I have seen more just random issues on this truck than other Toyotas in the past.

Usually with Toyota there are a few consistent issues that once you take care of or ignore them, you are good to go. Most of the big 3 have the...can't pin down a single issue because they are all over the map syndrome.

Now I am starting to see the issues all over the map syndrome with this one.

Lets just hope they get this under control and learn from it so that the other new models won't have to go thru so much random crap..

What the Dr said, most it is just being reposted by someone on all the platforms or reshared.

I would say yes, my truck was built in May and the only issue it really has is the window gasket, and its not as bad as others. Slight wind noise, only sometimes with a head/ cross wind.

Out of curiosity is the window trim you bought to black out different than the QC moldings?

it just snaps over the metal- the trim is held in place separately- you dont even touch it.

I was just told that it is the truck that the manager was driving so they are selling it as used.
(It is a salesman who told me that, so I take it for that... it can be any other reason.)

So I just picked up my Tundra yesterday and I’m just noticing now, that it doesn’t have carpet mats. I know I didn’t pay for the all weather ones but shouldn’t it atleast come with the basic floor mats ? It’s hard to believe that a truck that’s almost $70K doesn’t automatically just come with basic floor mats.

Nope, both carpet and all weather are extra, welcome to Toyota. My Tacomas were same way.

Have over 5k miles now with a March build date truck and have had 0 issues. My QC issues are the window seal trim and the tailgate rattling with the back window down.

With that said, my only regret with purchasing the truck is not realizing there were two different fuel tank sizes to choose from. Unfortunately I have the smaller tank size on my SR5 and I wanted to know if it would be possible to upgrade to the larger tank size or should I just wait for after market options?

With my driving habits and commutes I fill up once a week which isn’t bad but it definitely bothers me seeing that fuel gauge meter going down literally after every single drive because of the smaller tank size.

I bet the aftermarket will have a 36-48g tank in the next few months. Contact transferflow and see if they have one in the works yet.

Will have to look into that. Do they usually cause issues with the fuel gauge meter not reading properly after installation? Not sure if you have any insight into that.

I was surprised my $28k Camry didn't have them. I did find OEM ones cheaper from certain dealers and even moreso on Ebay. There you can still get OEM or you can get the knock-offs.

My dealer had some and gave them to me ... two fronts and one rear! I tried buying the other rear and that didn't work. Then I tried both rears and that didn't work. So I'm going to end up having to buy a whole set anyway!

re: reposts on different forums... I used to be on Tundrasolutions, I'd been on that one since Jan 2000... with my first one. But when the 3rd gen came out, there wasn't a lot of traffic there... so I moved here...I've looked at a few others, same, mostly 1+2 gen stuff, not much 3rd gen.

Totally normal. It is the chain that is used to lower the spare tire. Might want to zip tie it tight to the tire. I had a really annoying rattle that I noticed with the rear window down. Took forever to figure out that it was that darn chain rattling.

Woah! I didn’t even think of that. I’m going to see if that’s the source. It’s not loud at all, but I hear it with the window down. I was convinced for a long time that it was the window itself. Thanks for this.

Weird they started using chains again to hold spares up. Used to be a cable which IMO was way nicer.

    Merry Christmas! (hopefully)

I just dropped my deposit down to "order" my new 2022 Tundra!

    SR5 Double Cab 4wd 6.5 ft. bed
    TRD Off Road Package
(coming with the following as well (not wanted but being added at factory/port and didn't blow up my meager budget))
    TRD Convenience Package
    All Weather Mats
    Bed Extender
    Bed Mat

Lead time given was approximately 14 weeks which puts it right around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

And I will have to fly to pick it up and drive home ($200 flt vs. $2k to ship)

Many thanks to all the great owners and their posts here. This had been a great resource as I have done research for this purchase.

Just minor stuff. For example, Undercover bed cover, Tufskinz custom door sill protectors, and TRD air filters.
Just as a note, except the possible exception of the Ford F-150, the Tundra is entirely made in the U.S. For example, Ram may be made in U.S. but Hemi engine is made in Mexico. Even GM isn’t all U.S.. Tundra is American made from what I’ve seen.

Funny I took pics and was going to post the same spare tire chain question. I'm posting anyway because mine is really low I believe. Also why the heck would they put a Michelin 265/70R18 tire for the spare when I have Faulken 265/60R20 on the truck? Somehow I think if I ever have to use it the i-Force Max is not going to like it and probably shut itself down!
