Yeah it’s not much different than non-hybrid MPG-wise, but it helps in the city. Who know what’ll happen, but since we’re speculating, I see it selling a lot better than the previous gen. The styling is a massive hit for Toyota. No polarizing mustache.

I actually think a lot of 4Runner owners will jump up to new Sequoia. 3 row seating, SRA, rear locker, same or better MPG with nearly 600 ft lbs of torque. People are going to be building this thing out FAR more than previous gen.

How is Toyota handling the solid rear axle with 4wd on the new Sequoia? Is the hybrid assist still between the engine and transmission?

It's identical to the Tundra - hybrid motor sandwiched like you said

Most of the redesign was focused on the Tundra, per Sweers, Sequoia was a secondary option utilizing as much of the platform as possible. Positioning it as hybrid only, shows that the sales expectations aren't top of the mind for Toyota and if they can count on 5 digit sales yearly it's a bonus considering multiple years of under 5k on the previous generation. With both vehicles being in the same plant there's no push either for it to be a sales leader, as every Sequoia that runs the line is one less Tundra that gets built. With the new Crown coming over from Japan and the "Grand Highlander" being built in IN, Toyota looks to have plenty of options in the mid to full size space moving forward with each targeting a different part of the segment and neither being the do it all vehicle that most folks are looking for.

I would rather imagine a 6.2 Iforce V8 with no fake exhaust noise piped in.

but you will get your plug in and I will never get my 6.2 iForce. Thats what I was really hoping for to compete with GM and the 6.2, at least an option for us dinosaurs.

but alas, off to a 3.4 turbo I go when they get the QC shit handled.

I sure as hell don't need a 6" hump in the middle of the cargo area. Sure as hell don't need 583 torque to achieve maybe 1mpg better above a non hybrid.

Buy a V8 new or used if you want, I'm thinking there won't be any on the market new by 2026.

New Mustang, C8 Corvette, HD Trucks will have a V8 in 2026 and later that I can tell. If the Camaro sticks around by then that too. HD Trucks will probably have a Gas V8 well into the 2030s probably early 40s.

I was referring to 1/2 ton pickups and SUV's.

I can see the Ram 1500 still having the Hemi that has a large following. GM twins might still as well since I was told that the AFM and DFM feature counts for certain cafe exception credits.

Isn't CAFE based on MPG only? If I can stuff a train engine in a Tundra and get certain MPG that is all that matters?

CAFE is the Corporate average fuel economy which basically means that a companies entire vehicle fleet must meet the marked average or they have to pay fees. Tech like auto stop start and the DFM/AFM like GM has can be used as credits towards it.

There will still be V8’s available.

You will only find them in high end luxury cars/SUV’s, high end sports cars, and HD pickups with high GVWR’s. Either cars expensive enough the buyers don’t care about paying rolled in taxes for emissions and fuel efficiency penalties, or trucks that aren’t held to passenger car standards.

Everything else will be saddled with low power gutless engines, or complex turbo systems.

Rumors are a turbo I-6 is going to replace the 5.7 Hemi. The Ram/Dodge/Jeep group are going to run into some problems very soon with CAFE - they don't have any small cars to help them balance out the big vehicles.

I can't remember if I asked this before but are CAFE rules by manufacturer or by brand? Like GMC only sells trucks and SUVs but is that partially offset by the cars that Chevy and Buick sell?

I remember hearing a TFL podcast that when discussing CAFE as the reason Toyota didn't go with a V8, Nathan said Toyota is probably the only company I'm the world who doesn't have to worry about CAFE with all the Prius sales.

So I am assuming it's by company.

It is by company so everything under the GM umbrella and everything under FCA sorry Stallantis umbrella for example.

Yeah I saw those but unlike other companies the Hemi has a big following and there are actually people that buy Stellantis products to have that Hemi. If enough people buy them it will take care of the fees. As far as the Jeep goes not sure. Ram 1500 biggest selling engine has been the Hemi by far and I heard recent surveys showed people wanted the Hemi but again that part is hearsay. I think the Hemi will stick around for another generation due to outcry as well against the full EV push from the Dodge muscle car crowd.

I have a v8 now, I was referring to a next gen 6.2 iForce in the new tundra, that what I wanted before it was announced, etc. it is what it is at this point.

just get the damn QC fixed for the truck you made toyota, thats all we can ask at this point.

TFL just announced their "long tern Tundra" will be sold by weeks end and they are getting a different truck.

I think that alone is pretty telling.

I wonder if they are getting a hybrid. They've been mostly positive on the truck so I don't know why they would already be selling it since it was a long term truck.

With the used truck market where it is right now its perfect timing for the Youtube reviewers to purchase new, film and then sell. They made money on the videos and now they may break even or possibly make money selling the truck. I expect them to get a hybrid or Pro down the line but we will have to wait and see.

True. They have a 58k offer from Vroom, and paid 57 for it originally. They still lose though. Taxes in CO are a steep 8%. So it came out to 64k.

Well I guess they did their tests and were done with it, only other thing to really test would've been long term liability and that would take longer than a year.

My understanding was they purchased the truck because it was a new Tundra and they wanted to know if it could hold it's own against the competition that had been refreshed and remodeled 2-3 times since the 2nd Gen came out. TFL is beholden to their views and what they bought was basically just a contemporary truck. Most likely they've done all the towing and off-road tests they can come up with and need to move on to please the viewers. I don't think that says anything about the truck being a disappointment (in fact I'd say the opposite as they can make content with problems). They said they were going to purchase a Silverado ZR2 which is essentially a worse Raptor/TRX by any metric, but people will click on "Raptor vs TRX vs ZR2 Towing Test!" over "How many issues have we had with a 1 year old 2022 Tundra- Let's find out!"

People forget that every 1 million views translates into something like $1500 for a monetized channel. That doesn't include the money they are paid to make the videos or the sponsors or the ad revenue (that's the real income).
    1. Buy new truck.
    2. Wring every click, view and advertising dollar out of said truck.
    3. Sell it for the next thing.
    4. Rinse
    5. Repeat

I'd be surprised if they didn't buy a hybrid Tundra after wringing all the money they can out of Silverado ZR2 videos...

LOL. They're youtube reviewers. "Long term" in the youtube world means a month. I'm surprised they kept it this long. No big deal though, any value they brought is long over. The only thing their videos are good for is getting a look at the upper level trims and maybe some mocked up usage. They rarely if ever spend any time with the trim levels most people will buy like the SR5, and they don't keep trucks long enough to actually have any worthy input on them. They also don't really know much about trucks, this is painfully obvious when they spend most of their time blabbing about cameras, gadgets, doodads and 0-60 times.
