    Hello question for 22' owners:

When you shift the truck from D to P does your vehicle make this weird whining/winding down sound? This is my first truck and my previous vehicle was a 2013 honda accord so I don't have much to compare to. I've never heard this sound before and thought it was a bit odd. The truck runs flawlessly otherwise but wasn't sure if that's normal behavior or something worth looking into.

Could it be the AIP shutdown noise? It's a common noise that many (if not all) Toyota's have after shutdown

I tried youtubing AIP shutdown to hear what that sounds like but it seems most videos make it seem like a popping/clunnk sound. The sound I'm hearing sounds like the vehicle is winding down or something like a jet engine slowing down lol. I'll try to get a video of it tomorrow and post.

My mom drives a 2014 Tundra and even she thought it was a weird sound when she heard it the first day I brought it home.

what you are hearing is probably the park brake being engaged. My wife’s 21 RAV4 does that every time it gets put in park and the parking brake automatically engages.

Stupid question but where’s the volume control for voice prompts? When I ask “Hello Toyota” or want to have it read a text message back I can barely hear it. :notsure:

The new Tundra isn’t a strong competitive entry into the market in its current configuration. The more time I wait to buy, the less enthusiastic I am about the new Tundra and the less likely I am to buy one.

It’s the emergency parking brake system. I thought it sounded like a transformer at first. Lol

Thank you I believe this is it. Your comment had me look in the owner manual PG. 211 and here's what it says:

■Parking brake operation sound: When the parking brake operates, a motor sound (whirring sound) may be heard. This does not indicate a malfunction

Same. If I were looking, I’d wait for the iForce Max and find the cheapest configuration I could get it in. But if its only going to have 1400 lb of payload, then it’s for fun not for work. That’s the only complaint I have with my truck. If it’s not going to significantly move the needle on that front, I have no reason to move in the future.

I enjoyed the back and forth between the two youtube channels sharing their reviews and experiences with the auto industry.

I want the new Sequoia as an addition to my fleet. I'm of course watching things see how that plays out.

The new Sequoia I'll give props to Mike Sweers for keeping it in the lineup. Toyota Corporate Board of Directors wanted that low-volume vehicle gone. Sweers convinced the bean counters he could keep it going as a Land Cruiser replacement (another low volume vehicle in NA). LC wasn't available in Canada for some goofy reason, now there is a faux LC, opens up the market. Imagine the embarrassment if Toyota vacated the fullsize SUV market in NA.

too bad he messed up the back area of it, I was considering going into that rather than a truck but that rear area is a deal breaker, you can fit anything with any size at all back there.

The 2023 Sequoia doesn’t have independent rear suspension.

New Sequoia has SRA and battery pack under the 3rd row. I know a lot of folks seem to despise the new layout, but for me it's not a deal breaker unless there is not an option to get the digital rear view in something other than the Capstone or Platinum trims.

SRA I can understand because it's supposed to emulate the Land Cruiser. But hybrid only is a head scratcher.

Big jump, but they've already done it in both the Sienna and Venza and it sounds like the Crown will also only offer electrified power train options . iForce-Max is just the start for Tundra and Sequoia, I'd expect a revamp of the hybrid system that adds more efficiency in the next 3-5 years

It does make sense when you think about it. Total EV is still challenging and now the materials to make batteries are showing their limitations and volatility. However, the manufacturers are always under pressure to increase overall MPGs. Current hybrids can do that with a much smaller and cheaper battery. The added complexity hurts a little (other brands even more) but it is what it is.

I don't understand the logic. They've sold under 10k sequoias the last few years. So they spend all the time and money on a redesign, then go hybrid only, which will make the rediculous price even more rediculous and narrow your target customer even farther.
Granted, a major reason for declined sales is the dinosaur technology and piss poor fuel economy in a market that demands every bell and whistle imaginable while getting decent mileage, but it still doesn't seem like a wise choice to me.
Seem like for 5 digit sales numbers per year the smarter choice would be to axe the sequoia and slap the US engine and parts in it that's in the tundra to bring price down.

Seems to me the reason it’s hybrid only is because it’s still a pretty heavy vehicle, and it needs to put as much distance between itself and the previous gen MPG-wise. Toyota is unwilling to play the same weight loss games as Ford (all aluminum body, less reliable battery materials, etc).

The branding as a land cruiser replacement at $20-30k less with TRD Pro and Off Road options should boost its sales nicely. Remember, it looks cool and has a huge screen now; people are gonna love it.

40 MPG is a pipe dream - even a solid 30 mpg would be game changing at this point for gas burning. The big draw for me of a PHEV would be 20-30 miles on electric. Do the running around town on electric but have the gas burner to be able to go 800-1000 km on a 5 minute fill up.

I'm sure it'll sell initially because it's new, but it'll fall off. I could see the argument for hybrid only if the mpg gains were actually there, but unless the system operates completely different than the tundra it's not worth the extra cost assuming the mpg estimates ring true and don't somehow go above and beyond the posted numbers.
If it actually does operate differently and boosts mpg the tundra crowd will be pissed off there's not at least an option for different hybrid modes. With the hybrid power output they've got to use it seems like they missed big by not having a standard/eco mode to add mpg and a tow/haul mode for adding power. Instead it's tow/haul all the time from what we know
