I like these guys…this is going to be a fun trip to see/follow and glad Toyota putting up to get some feedback.

Probably take some tips myself as the sea/sky highway is beautiful but never went the entire length or beyond.

Only change I would make, would be to leave from their home base in Ontario. An exact drive I’ve considered for yrs. Tuk has always been on my radar. Looking forward to their trip & vids/ feedback

I actually found the options available in TN, so that's a doable plan. But I sure would like to know why this is the case. Maybe in time they'll be available in GA too.

For any future dads out there (like me) curious on if a car seat will fit in the new double cab… here’s your answer. My wife is 5’8” and she was actually able to slide the seat back further than where she likes it and I was even able to fit comfortably in it (5’11”)! Dont get me wrong it is a tight fight, but it sure is gonna work. 0AAE4117-8EC8-4825-8385-AC8A36D06444.jpg

Congratulations! One other thing to note too, I know that the Nuna Pipa car seat isn’t the most compact setup but we did it because it’s lightweight. That said I’m sure if you shopped around you could probably find a smaller car seat/base setup and get even more range in the front seat! We really wanted to set it up in the middle seat but A: the cup holders were in the way of the base and B: with the Westcott Designs lift it makes onload/offload difficult in the middle seat even for me… passenger rear you can get everything squared away without even having to get up on the running boards!

Towing with a TTV6 you don't get much better MPG than V8's. Been proven many times, and altitude doesn't matter. A turbo engine retains it's rated power better at altitude but it's still drinking a lot of fuel because you're in full boost.

8-10mpg is about what I expected to see towing. From what I've seen in videos though is with a turbo engine you have PASSING power when towing at altitude. There's a semi doing 35mph climbing Vail or Ike? Seems to me a TTV6 is able to accelerate better climbing so you get around quicker and don't clog the fast lane. Won't get much better MPG though vs a V8.

Typical for any gas engine on that route. You're always over 5k ft altitude. Denver to Trinidad on I25 is kinda flat but then you hit Raton pass and New Mexico is a series of climbs and descents and never below 6k ft altitude until you get near Las Cruces. Tough for towing and a good argument for a large fuel tank.

The testing we have observed so far where the new Tundra is tested on the same course, with the same load/trailer, at the same speed, has shown that the new Tundra is significantly more fuel efficient towing than V8 powered trucks.

Not sure what you’re basing your opinion on.

    https://youtu.be/D7E0xA8SFYY

Tundra gets beat in fuel mileage only by the 3.0L Duramax.

    https://youtu.be/lftJi5gBKok

Same story, the TTV6 in the Tundra is more efficient towing than a V8 Ram.

1.3 mpg better. Sure, that adds up on a long trip. 1.3mpg better is 30 miles more range and $5 more fuel cost per tank. Is that worth it for the complexity of a TTV6? We've been discussing this at the kitchen table and decided we'll stay with the old reliable 4.7l 4Runner and the 5.7l. My mechanic pals don't want anything to do with a diesel nor a TTV6.

I realize it's anecdotal, but in many tests in the past with other TTV6's, and in my own real life experience, people towing with, say, an EcoBoost vs the 5.0L V8 usually get 1-2MPG less.

Of course, I realize it could be simply because they're in the gas more; but still.

If anything I'd say that there may be a bit more of an all-around focus on gas mileage with the Tundra TTV6 than we previously thought, which is a good thing. Better MPG under regular use *and* while towing.

In this instance an improvement of 1.3 MPG is 17% more efficient. That is quite significant.

At this point we can pretty accurately observe that the 3.5L EcoBoost and the 3.4L iForce are not the same engine. They perform differently despite their superficial on paper resemblance.

The V35A-FTS has higher thermal efficiency and it shows when being worked. I think this is due to the undersquare nature of the Toyota engine with it’s smaller bore diameter and longer stroke, it gets more work out of the fuel burned. The downside is it doesn’t want to rev as easily and time to torque/boost reflects that in the comparatively slower acceleration of the Tundra. Of course the Tundra being a chunky girl in comparison doesn’t help either…

Oh, for sure. I’m simply pointing out that it’s kind of obvious why many have assumed a TTV6 “would” get worse MPG towing - because classically they usually have. I’m glad the Tundra TTV6 is disproving that. :)

I like those desert kit foxes. They're cheeky buggers. Have to be fearless dealing with coyote packs. Our Lab/Rottweiler mix was so pissed off at those cheeky buggers in Nevada but she couldn't catch them. Sly as a fox is a good saying.

I left her food dish out one night and the next morning there was a turd and urine in it. She was so pissed off she stayed glued to the trailer window that night scanning for the culprit. Round about 2200 I heard her growl and leap to the trailer door wanting out. Full moon that night so I could see the pursuit. Dog couldn't catch fox, they went into a gully and fox outfoxed her.

Interesting, looks like all 4 nuts holding the axle shaft into the housing loosened up, fell off and the whole assembly walked out of the axle housing thus splitting the brake line and probably spilling some gear oil everywhere. Could have been a missed step in the factory, assuming that side wasn't torqued to spec.

Came down to the parking lot and found a SR5 DC parked next to my Limited Crewmax

My truck is pulled a bit farther forward, but still a decent comparison pic.

that picture is deceiving and not accurate. IMO for comparison this picture is more accurate based on what I saw. the front bumpers are lined up. The smaller overall look of the '22 means the long bed doesn't look so big and long from what I saw.

when you take a picture of a fish before releasing, you always hold it out front to make it look bigger. 8^0
