I dont think that was from the recovery. More likely from one of the hard hits he took. Like when he high centered it on the hill or when he ripped his bumpers off. Still don't think if should've happened but don't think it was from the recovery.

There’s zero damage in the videos during the recovery and then this comes after.

Everyone is assuming the event that caused this was captured on video and posted on YouTube. Who knows what this guy has done off camera.

Edit: I guess I stand corrected!

Who knows…but it wasn’t there before he was pulled out and it was there after he was pulled out…and you can see the space between the bed and the cab opening and closing in the video.

Trust me if this guy was doing anything hellacious and caused that, it would be on film and posted.

im sure he will have it reviewed by Toyota. He said he used the recovery point on this hitch and then it was subscribers that noticed it after recovery. Could be design flaw or improper recovery procedure. I’ll be curious if Toyota picks up the case to determine.

So you probably cant pull front the front without damage, and now looks like you cant pull fron the rear either.

Man it sounds like this guy might’ve made a case for the recovery hooks to be added to a later model lol

Sweers commented on his post, It's an issue with the composite bed. For all those that were wondering about the composite bed durability, its durable to a point, if you do any twisting or weight bearing (like bed racks and roof top tent, heavy loads). and then you are off camber with the bed twisting etc. You could have issues...as this gentleman found out.

Tacoma owners are quite familiar with this and use bed stiffeners to help out when they are going to put the truck in those situations. I knew it was just a matter of time before we started seeing things going wonky with the Tundra bed once they said it would be composite.

Its fine for hauling etc and it is durable, but if you put it in any kind of a twist, you can potentially tear it apart at the seams.

Just wait till a few start seeing their tail gate gap get bigger and bigger after hauling a load of dirt/gravel or anything that puts stress on the sides.

Didn’t they just do a demo of all the heavy rocks dropping on it and you can’t even recover it from mud

Yeah, composite bed does tend to spread at the tailgate. Hence the Taco aftermarket stiffeners. Composite has some good points though. They don't rust. Can't screw in additional D-rings though. So some good some bad,

Feeling pretty good. Stopped at a dealer that had a Limited in blueprint as a demo. With a deposit on a Sport in blueprint I was pretty happy to get to see it in colour. I asked if I could drive it and he threw me the keys and the wife and I went for a drive. Awesome to get to actually see a new Tundra in the flesh. Overall, have to save I was impressed. No odd noises, everything ran great, looked great. Of course it's new so I wouldn't expect an issue. Very punchy on the gas, maybe a slight lag, but hard to tell since the highway was backed up, not a lot of go-go room.

Overall, pretty impressed. They could have have a few more soft touch points, a bit less hard plastic, but overall, pretty nice truck. Now looking forward to my Sport, thought I wish in Canada we could get a few more options. But I'm happy to not pay for a sunroof I'll never use and I don't really care about the 8 vs 14 inch screen. Anyway, just wanted to put out there that seeing and driving was great and re-ignited my interest and commitment to the truck.

I have that exact truck (minus blackout badges and running boards) and I love it. The Blueprint looks great in person, as does the truck as a whole.

Coming from a Ford 5.0 V8, I actually find the immediate low end power to be lacking a bit and need to get used to stabbing the pedal a harder. Just something to get used to on my end.

I’m always curious about this comment. In what conditions do you feel lack of low end power? Taking off? I feel that once you’re going there is a ton of low end power. Not so familiar with the 5.0 F150 though.

The judgment on whether Toyota handling this well or not is still in the air. I know it seems like its been a long time and there's no official fix but remember the trucks just hit the lots in December. It takes time to figure out the source of the problem, redesign, reprogram, or whatever is required, retool the manufacturer of the part, and have enough of the new part to repair built trucks as well as resupply the assembly line.
This isn't something easy like a suspension part or a mechanical part of the engine breaking that is easily identified, revamped, and replaced.
The turbo issue could could a bad waste gate design, bad manufacturing of the waste gate, ecu programming, a fault in the turbo system causing the gate to fail, or even something such as too too small Guage of control wire to the gate causing voltage to drop outside of tolerance.

It may not come as fast as people want but the fix is coming and it will be right. There's 500 more hurdles to jump over in the screwed up covid world but Toyota is known for reliability and won't ignore this and hurt their reputation.
If people want to get mad and bash Toyota for first year growing pains on a completely new design, feel free to go on to another manufacturer. But just remember,

GM has been blaming lifter failures on a "bad batch" of lifters for years. The baby max still has a whole host of issues from not starting, not shutting down, and bent timing sets. Rear window leaks for years that their tsb fix calls for a heap of silicone.

Ford has electrical and transmission issues they just ignore. Not to mention aluminum bodies have ripples in them like a coke can when you pop a dent out of it when you look down them.

Dodge has gotten better but rear ends, transmissions, and electrical problems are still pretty common. Front ends get sloppy early on and need a full set of bushings frequently too. Not to mention the 5.7 that's been around for an eternity still has a godawful valve train rattle after about 60k on it.

It's only on the first little bit of take off until boost is built. Before boost all you've got is a 3.5 6 cylinder. Compare that to a 5.0 8 cylinder and it's obvious which one will have the most umph on the initial go from a stop. The turbos are the equalizer. Once they spin enough to build boost the power comes on.
You can mitigate it a little by being more punchy on initial throttle but there will always be a little bit of lag.

The power is good once you're moving. I just find it feels like a naturally aspirated V6 straight off the line until you get moving and the turbo power builds. This is inherent to turbo engines, so I'm not complaining. Just saying it's an adjustment for me.

Also Sport mode definitely makes a difference here and the power comes on quicker off the line.

Well, I could go on Facebook and say I have the turbo issue and have a friend who has the issue ( both would be lies)) so really hard to say 10% have issues. Maybe someday we will know but for now, we do not.
