You can add the manual drop down step. What I plan on doing. It's $399 on Toyota but I'm sure there will be cheaper options out there soon.

So a DTC is a 'diagnostic trouble code' (check engine light code). Do you have access to the Tech tips? That would be useful, and they aren't published online. This basically says if you get the same code let us know (presumably to see if it is a one-time or multiple incident problem and help with solutions.) If any of these reach any form of resolution, then a TSB is issued and those have to be made public by law. The current TSBs for the 2022 Tundra are in the thread "2022 Tundra...more issues???"

Worried about the rear window rattling issue because the owner's manual says you're not supposed to drive the vehicle with the rear window down. That's their sneaky way of saying any rattling isn't fixable.

My 2016 manual says the same thing. It's their way of removing liability if someone go co poisoning. Don't think it will prevent them from fixing it.

I have zero rattling with my rear window. After reading this I drove it 1/4 down 1/2 down 100% down on side streets and highway. No rattling, perhaps this may develop over time, but nothing now.

I test drove a SR5 TRD Off Road crew max short box this morning. The dealer had installed a levelling kit and aftermarket tires and wheels. I did a mix of city and highway driving. My current truck is a 2005 double cab and my work truck is a 2021 F150 with the Powerboost. With that in mind:

    - The truck looks way better in person. The massive grille doesn't look that bad and really isn't that much bigger than the one on the F150.

    - The engine noise sounded fine to me. It was smoother and quieter than the Ford. The power is more evenly distributed across the power range as well.

    - I put it in sport mode and floored it from a stoplight. I chirped the tires, which was fun. It goes like a raped ape.

    - While on the highway, I tried out the "passing power" and went from 100km/h up to 130km/h by flooring the pedal. There was about 1/4 second delay and then off we went. Loads of power and it felt planted and confident.

    - Wind noise wasn't noticeable at all in town. On the highway it was there but I didn't notice any out of the ordinary whistles or drones. It's a truck, not a luxury car. It was slightly quieter than the F150 and there's no contest with my '05 which sounds like sitting in a wind tunnel.

    - The truck handled "small". It's noticeably bigger than my '05, but it actually felt more manueverable and responsive. The F150 I drive at work feels every bit of its size and handles like a sleepy Hutt.

    - The mirrors are excellent. Better than my '05 and blow the F150 out of the water.

    - Interior fit and finish was good. There were no rattles, no loose joints or rough edges. The glove box isn't very deep and I do think they could have made it deeper. The shelf above it is a nice touch though.

    - The truck we drove had a console safe in it. I liked it, but it does take up alot of room in the console. I'll probably end up getting one.

    - Lots of storage elsewhere in the truck. I don't foresee running out of space for my needs. I can store everything I need in my '05, and there's more room in the '22.

    - Back seat room was good. Maybe slightly less than the F150, but not enough to bother me.

    - The composite bed is neat. Definitely gonna need to get a bed mat or Linex it though, it's slicker than goose shit.

    - The telescoping wheel combined with the 8 way power seats is awesome. I have a weird body shape and getting comfortable in a truck is tough. It was super comfy in the '22. Some people have complained about the seat bottom being short. I think it's perfect. I'm 5'5" with a 28" inseam though so there's that.

    - The window arm rest is just about perfect. On longer trips I like to settle in with my left elbow on the armrest and my left hand at 9 o'clock on the wheel. It felt good in this truck. The F150 has that dip in the window sill which is exactly where my elbow goes, making it uncomfortable (side note: all other things being equal, that dip in the windowsill is a dealbreaker and a reason I'll never buy a F150 again)

    - There's alot of tech on the truck. Gonna take some getting used to. The push button start is funky.

    - My Nalgene bottle does not fit in the cup holders. It does fit in the cupholders of my '05. Sad face.

Now onto the important feedback. What did The Woman think of it? Keeping in mind she drives my '05 and drove the F150 SuperCrew with 6.5ft box (aka The Super Tanker) I previously had:

    - She felt safer in the truck, safer than she does in my '05. That's pretty much the most important thing to me, especially with a baby on the way.

    - She liked the storage, the large back seat and the big doors. Getting a car seat in and out will be a breeze.

    - She loved how "small" the truck drove. She drove it down one of the narrowest streets in town and parallel parked it (yes, The Woman is a badass). She said she felt better doing it with the '22 than my '05.

    - The MTS was a hit. Knowing she can easily change terrain modes, especially in winter here, gave her alot of confidence.

    - The LED lights, while we didn't test them in the dark, are a big thing for her. She doesn't like driving at night, so the brighter the lights the better.

    - The large screen of the Limited trims would be a deal breaker for her, too bright and distracting. She really liked the one in the SR5. She played with it a bit and figured out it can be set to dark mode, like an Android phone. Awesome sauce.

    - She liked the guide lines on the backup camera view.

    - The heated seats keep her butt warm which keeps her happy. The heated steering wheel keeps her hands warm, which also keeps her happy. Both of us actually turned off the heated steering wheel after a few minutes as it honestly felt too warm for us. It's 47F here today, so very mild. I'm sure the heated wheel will come in real handy when it actually gets cold.

    - Running boards are an absolute must for her. The test drive truck had the Predator steps on it. Neither of us liked them much. I'll be looking for the Go Rhino RB20 or similar.

    - The stereo thumps.

A few other notes for me:

    - The leveling kit looked good. I'll probably look into one down the road.

    - Bed mat is a must.

    - I confirmed that the SR5 TRD OR crew max does in fact have the larger fuel tank.

    - New tires will be priority. In Canada the TRD OR comes with Michelin LTX Trail or something like that. Garbage. Gonna have to swap em out right away.

    - No mark ups at my dealership. Price is $58,762 + $992 in misc dealer fees as usual + 5% sales tax. 84 month/200,000km ECP Platinum warranty is $4712. This is Canuckistani pesos, not Freedom Bucks btw.

    - No wheeling and dealing with the dealer. Buggers wouldn't even throw in the bed mat which is under $300. It's a seller's market and it shows. Could I shop around and save a grand or two, maybe. Not worth the headache or travel time for me though, plus I like my dealership.

That's about all I can think of for now. Happy to answer any questions.

Excellent review! Do you happen to know the details of the tires and wheels the dealer installed?

I honestly didn't even think to look at the size. The wheels are Fuel, and the tires were BFG All Terrains iirc.

    :hattip:

Right now I'm thinking of putting the 17" TRD SEMA wheels from my '05 on and wrapping them with Cooper AT3 XLTs or similar. The factory 18" wheels will get studded Nokian Hakkapellitas for winter. I want to see more real world reports of people using 17" wheels in adverse conditions first though. I'm a little concerned about mud getting packed in around the brake caliper.

He said something about a Powerboost so probably a 21 but the complaints seemed forced and pretty obscure as if to try and find "something" to knock. He must have the "car" mirrors because I have the tow mirrors and they're as good as it gets ... it's as if your head is out the window facing rearward! The dip in the door - well revered feature that receives nothing but complements from everyone else. My F150 feels and handles like butta! Blows the Ram 1500 away which probably blows the Tundra away but I haven't driven a 22 Tundra yet myself. A comparison that mentions storage where they Toyota was considered better is completely invalid as the Toyota is knocked by everyone else for having no good storage and why some won't even consider the Tundra Hybrid since you lose the only good storage (under the rear seat).

If you don't want to hear people say good things about a Toyota, maybe consider getting off the Tundra forum.

Here and staying. My next truck might be the Tundra if they work out the kinks. I was just defending the Ford from some silly attacks.

As you probably know I am big fan of blue trucks. I hadn't made my mind up on the blueprint yet, but that is the first good pic I've seen in the sun and damn it looks good!

My dealer offered me an extended bumper to bumper warranty for 6 years/100,000 miles today for an additional $1950. I accepted only because I can cancel within the next 90 days with no penalty. What do y’all think?

Out of curiosity… where were the predator steps in this photo ? Is this not the truck that was driven ? Kinda threw me for a loop for such a detailed review…
