Was just watching this and came here to post it too. Gives some good insight on all the things you don't think about when buying a truck and what I feel makes Toyota a Toyota and how they spend their money on quality instead of gadgets.

 

Any updates on how serious these problems are?

 

seems to be a developing and fluid situation, there is info all over this board including one dude who the dealer is taking the truck back I think.

 

Man, I feel like these people that joined for the 2022 are toxic as fuck. Seems like 2022 model is attracting a bunch of shit eaters, complainers, and diarrhea vomiters.

 

Waiting for someone to post the salesmen video that says a good source says the hybrid is 30+ mpg and will be 4k more.

 

I think there's a blend of Yota fan boy, haters, 2.5 Gen homers, truly interested prior Tundra owners who aren't ready to make the leap, new Toyota (some new truck period) owners excited to learn and share. Expecting all of one kind is unreasonable. I would expect the haters to be out in rare form due to it being the hot new thing. There's also a heavy dose of it's the most awesome thing ever, just cause it's a Toyota and I'm buying one. All of this gives us a good idea of the mood out there. Take it all with a grain of salt. Weed through the BS and I think there is a lot of good info being shared on here as usual.

I know when Toyota sent out the surveys and were asking what people wanted for power and mpgs, they were asking about high 20's to 30+ mpgs so I guess it's possible, but after seeing the fact that it doesn't seem like it's a very large hybrid system, I don't know if it's possible with this setup.

 

I can’t help but think that this guy is behind the wheel of every Carolina squatted truck I see. And I’m seeing more and more of them.

I will put you down in the squatted truck enthusiast camp. I guess intentionally ruining a vehicle, making it demonstrably unsafe, and then endangering other motorists and pedestrians is cool with you?

Dont care too much for the squat, but i defenately like the leveled look. Folks can say all day long about it squating when loaded, and i get it, but they its hard to argue against leveled look vs the rear end hiked up in the air.

 

Leveled is fine, I don’t understand the obsession with it, but at least it’s not impairing visibility and making the vehicle handle in an unsafe manner. If you want to level your truck and get worse fuel mileage and little to no functional gain, have at it.

Squatted trucks are simply stupid and dangerous and have no place on public roads.

When I make fun of squatted trucks and the owners of said trucks, I’m really referencing the ones with the nose pointed at a near 30 degree angle in the air being driven by someone with extra twisty ladders, or a few missing twisty ladders.

 

I prefer some rake. Not because of the look, but because it’s functional. It keeps me from squatting dangerously when I am hauling stuff in the bed like those Carolina squatters who have their headlights pointed into everyone else’s eyes and can’t see the traffic over their hoods because they’re pointed into the sky. Driver tropes aside, setting your truck up like that seems pretty reckless to me.

The argument against the leveled look is that while it’s supposed to be a tough stance, you’re really just advertising to everyone that you don’t use your truck for truck stuff because it’s gonna squat when you actually put something in the bed.

 

Agree on the headlights. I adjusted mine back down after I leveled. I mainly haul light loads and a small boat time to time. The heavy stuff, I like to use the work truck. If I hauled heavy leads everyday, then yes, Id probably would leave it stock.
Leveling is just something to me that automatically gets done as soon as I buy the truck, along with tires and tint.

Although if I get the pro, it looks like it doesn’t come with much rake since it already has a factory 1” lift up front. In that case I would probably just put 2 or 3 sandbags in the bed to level, and take them out when I need to haul something

 

I think most originally leveled for 2 reasons. The looks obviously. But for 4wd guys, to clear the larger tires. I leveled my 95 cheby short wide V8 5spd in period correct teal but it was a 2-4 drop. Sport truck was all the rage at the time. No Dino themed off road beasts available then. All about speed and noise. Lightenings and 454ss roamed the streets. 5.9 Dakotas. S-10 Syclones.

 

Ah yeah, the good old Lightning and 454 SS days.

 

OK, to be fair, it was all about noise. The only fast one from the above list was the S-10 syclone. The rest were dogs by today’s standards. The 454 cubic inch Chevy beast had the same power and performance numbers as my 2000 4.7 Tundra.

 

Seems like every forum I’m in has this situation. People like to troll, people like react, and it turns into a poop show.

Who cares what someone wants to do with their truck, more power to people who want to enjoy themselves their way.

 

But they still need our permission to choose the make, model, configuration and appropriate mods, do they not?

52 mpg sure, but I bet it couldn’t hit 52 mph. I drove my grandma’s four door on a raised portion of interstate in Charleston during a thunderstorm and that was a terrifying experience.
