    Anyone had any issues with shell damage to the back of the cab with heavy off-road use? Just got new suspension and want to abuse them a little bit but the owner of a local off-road shop told me I should be careful because my shell will probably smack around the back of the truck from the bed articulating.

    I have a leer on mine in the winter. I do minimal off-road but haven't had any issues. If you're rallying the desert I'd keep an eye on it. Slow and bumpy you're likely fine. The worst I've seen mine shake is on nasty washboard roads. I actually stopped to check on it because I thought it was loose. It'll flex with the bed and at least with the design of the one I have it won't contact the cab unless the bed does.

    Absolutely none and I've tweaked my frame a few times. Biggest problem was side windows opening up. Would come unlocked.

    A previous poster here said shells were for old farts. I'm an old fart now, but always had a topper to put on my trucks over the years. Just make sure it's secured well. Just sayin....

    This is the 4th shell I've run on my rigs. The other two were smaller, a taco and a pre-frontier Nissan and a big 3/4t ferd. Never saw any damage at all. My style is not high speed bombing but more hard line rock crawling. Causes a huge amount of flex but minimal impact. Lots of miles off road.

    Really..? For old farts huh... When we were young we all had shells on our mini trucks. It was our mobile boneyard! We'd go to the drive-in(now u know I'm an old fart!)park in the back row backwards, open up the back and lay there "watching" the movie. ;-oIMG_0413.jpg

    Haha I mean I'm not 20 anymore but I'm still in my early 30s and I've always loved trucks with shells. Probably because my dad always ran one growing up.

    IMG_1107.jpg Thanks for the replies. I just put some Kings on my Tundra and plan on using them like they were meant to be used so I was a little concerned with the abuse with a shell on. Sounds like as long as I check on the clamps and make sure they're down tight I shouldn't have much of a problem. Personally I don't see how a tundra could look better than with a nice topper

    Yep, me too, from my teens. The fact is I nearly always had 2 trucks usually plus a company truck. Let me dedicate a rig to work and hauling and dedicate another one to hunting and playing. Always had to have a work truck (the one that I was working on cause it's broke)

    I like my ARE Z series....it's expensive @$1800 plus a pop, but it keeps my sh%t dry. And yes, I guess I will raise my old fart hand :thumbsup: We all hopefully ALL get there some day, dam it!! may you ALL get there someday!!! :muscleflexing: :cheers:

    True. I had one on my Taco. Loved it. But was limiting when wanting to haul stuff. So went with soft on Tundra. No security freaks me out; but the ease of on/off is awesome.

    I can get my hard top shell off by my lonesome self in about 20 seconds by rolling the truck. This has its down side though.

    I slide mine off the back..carefully. I've actually repeated the reverse to get it back on by myself. Not easy but doable. Had no choice.
