Oem oil filter question

    My local parts counter gave me a 90915-yzzf1 oil filter for my 2023 tundra. What made me look up the part number was I noticed that my oil pressure goes to 3/4 on the gauge at startup and when driving pressing on the accelerator pedal any amount. Is this filter going to hurt my truck or is it acceptable? I have ZERO faith in my local service department and now parts department.

    It will most likely be just fine. The F1 filter and the part # it calls for(90915-10010) are very similar. And all Toyota filters have the by pass built in and the anti drain check. My gauge also goes up to 3/4 on start up. Haven’t really paid attention to what it reads while accelerating, but I would image it should increase as throttle increases

    Thanks. I did a little cross referencing and see Fram lists all kinds of Toyota PN’s as acceptable to their own PN for tundra oil filter. Just had me a little worried at first.

    No kidding, thanks for the insight.

    was more concerned because I didn’t remember my oil pressure this high for the previous 15k before I just changed my oil with this filter.

    My dealer did the same thing, and they work fine. Their outer dimensions are just a couple mm different from the 9xxxx but the threads and mating surfaces are identical. Lately I have been ordering the 9xxxx P/N filter but the ZZF1s are widely available at Wally World stores and other retail outlets so if you need one quick that is easier than going to the dealer.

    I started a topic on this very issue a year ago and it contains lots of discussion and photos. I'll try to find it and link it here later when I have time.

    Thanks. I actually did a Google search and it yielded me the thread you speak of. I read it all, well I skipped over the oil filter arguing about fram haha

    Ambient temps are dropping. Even a 10* difference changes the viscosity of the oil. The gauge is going to fluctuate. It’s more just a dummy gauge anyway. Having oil higher pressure isn’t a bad thing. It simply means you have good flow. As the engine gets hot, the oil becomes more viscous so it will inherently drop a little in pressure. I would be more concerned of low pressure as that could indicate blockages as the sensor is downstream.

    I recently bought a filter at the dealer, was a bit over $9. First two I bought were a bit over $13 for both. My son came home that Monday with a whole box of Toyota filters, for a bit over $6 per. :)
