I have it and use it from time to time. Mine looks slightly unlevel when it’s up and drives me nuts to look at

Ordered the kit Nov 30 from Sparks. They show it in stock on their website, but I'm still waiting. Inquired online this week and they told me 5-6 weeks now due to backlog of orders so 6 weeks will be Jan 11. We will see...

May cancel and go for the ladder option.

I just had the dealership install the manual bed step for '22 Platinum trim, seems that the bed step in the retracted (up) position hits the bottom side of rear bumper, is this normal?

It’s super close on mine but doesn’t quite touch the bumper. I installed it myself but there really isn’t any adjustment. Maybe you could tweak it a bit if it actually is hitting.

    Thank you for your reply!

I looked at the installation to make sure it was done properly. That checks out. There is a small circular piece of rubber/neoprene bumper/cushion that used on the retractable step between two metal surfaces. Since the bed step is spring loaded, when retracted the two metal parts make contact when in the upright position with bumper/cushion between them. I am looking at replacing that rubber with a thicker piece or just adding another bumper on top of it. It is under compression all the time except when the bed step is lowered. I tried a small round rubber grommet just to see if that would help and that seems to keep the bed step from touching the bottom of the bumper. Just a 1/4" is all that is needed and looks like it will not cause any issues with it deploying on its own.

Hopefully, this can be an easy permanent fix to make sure the bumper doesn't sustain damage over the life of the truck. I'm sure the bumper/cushion will compress over time and even yours may start to rub the bumper.

Wow, maybe these are shaking loose in quantity now? Otherwise, I am about 2 months behind you having ordered mine on Jan 20 from my local dealer.

I have bashed my shin on that thing so many times. It takes a second to retract after you close the tailgate.

I got one of the updated versions from Sparks Parts this week, the only difference with the new step is there is no more nut plates you drop into the groves to hold the step part on using the hex bolts, instead you get 3 torx screws that screw directly into the step plastic.

When extended, does it sit any higher than the original?
The original was about 6" lower than the bottom of the bumper, whereas the power step is even with the bottom of the bumper.

I'm not sure exactly the height because its parked so close to the wall I can't fully extend it right now. Seems like 6" from the bumper basically. Definitely not even with the bumper.

I was wasting time this AM and some search came up with this old video where the guy installed an OEM bed step back in 2022. I noticed that the step mounted to the swing arm with some nut inserts and machine bolts, whereas the one I just installed a couple of weeks ago is held on by self-tapping screws that go directly into the plastic holes. Perhaps that is the change to the product resulting in the new part #? IDK. I think I actually like the old design better. Oh, the video shows those nut inserts and bolts starting around 13:40.

Edit: I just saw a post above that made this same report.

I ordered the OEM bed step from a dealer in Oregon at the end of Nov and it was backordered at the time, part guy said there were 3k+ orders for the part. I called today to see if they have an idea on when it will ship and found out that they issued a new part number for it and the original part number has been discontinued. They have to change the order manually, the good thing is that it's in stock and I should have it in less than a week. If any of you have it on order and didn't ship, call your dealer and ask about the new part number otherwise it probably won't get shipped.

There should be a step on the top corner of the bumper because it’s a truck and not an SUV :frusty:

I ordered last week with local dealer using the new part #. They called me today to let me know it’s in. Picking up later this week.

It's the same as the original. Only thing that has changed is how the plastic step attaches to the swing arm... different fasteners. Those power steps look like a better height but there's probably no way to make them work with lower trim level Tundras.

Picked up yesterday. Mild winter day today, calm before the 12” storm tonight. Going to back up into garage and try to install. Heading to the mountain for some late afternoon-evening skiing ⛷️

Loosen the sheet metal brace at the top with 10mm wrench, pop out the plastic rivet on the bottom of it, then rotate it out of the way. You have to loosen that top nut a good many turns before the brace will rotate. Makes the install pretty easy.

Thanks for the tips / yes I did both. I found the hardest part was installing the very top purple bolt.

the step is extremely close to the paint. I’m going to have that part of the bumper PPF wrapped.

Looks good. Also looks a little closer to the bumper than mine. PPF is a good idea.

I just installed mine today. It took 3 orders to finally get it into the dealership. Installation took me about 30 mins. But I go slow. Mine extends just by using my foot to push it down (and rearward) or folding-up by pushing forward & upward. Part PT392-34231
