In the last month, my 2005 Tundra has been showing the O/D display on the dash intermittently without me pushing the button. At highway speeds, this increases the RPM to approx. 3200 when it is normally around 1900 at 65 mph. When I press the O/D button, it sometimes does not go off. I have to trial and error in neutral and then back in drive to get it off. Any ideas?

Welcome. We have thread for that https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/
    • Broken shift lever: This was stupidly common in the earlier trucks, to the point there surely must be a TSB on it. If your shift lever is super sloppy but it's not the problem above, your shift lever base plate may've snapped off. Info on this problem and part numbers to fix info are linked here. Some 2000-2001 owners here are on their 2nd repair at this point... seems like a design flaw!

Black Mamba: I looked at the threads and I do not have a sloppy shift lever or a broken one. When the O/D is engaged, I can't turn it off by the button on the shift lever. Does this fix still apply?

Black Mamba: That looks like what the problem is. You are great. I am going to buy that bushing anyway since the truck is 20 yrs old.
