Same here. Carpet wrapped up and over, stapled to to the back, bare wood exposed on rear. Still better than bed liner paint.

 

Yes. Mine was the same way re: screws just spinning. I emailed James and he said that it was fine. No carpet on the back of box either, not sure if that’s correct or not though.

They did. Had to order from Canada once he got to 70-80 orders from what I remember early on in this thread. Who knows. The resin coating, upper left port, internal cubic space inside is the key for best sound, carpet only for aesthetics. I'll never look behind my seat again so unless I tell my wife and our dog, no one is the wiser.

 

Makes sense. I "mounted" mine closer to the C pillar than in the center of the seat. I will try this. Thanks.

 

The carpet is not long enough to carper the back all the way around. No one sees it so we do not ever completely carpet the back.

If you had one of the ones that was damaged by ups and have not shipped the sub back to me yet please Email ASAP. It will save you time and me money

 

no need for that... mine is within a stitch of flush. make sure your sub favors the drivers side but not so far that the seat wont fold back down.

the trick is to insert the inboard aft bolt first (the one with the coarse thread) and run it down by hand as far as you can. then push on the seatback corner on the same side as the bolt. (or use an assistant to maintain pressure there and continue to run that bolt down, but dont torque it just yet. Now install the opposite back bolt but dont torque it just run it down by hand.

then run in both forward bolts down by hand. now have your assistant push one last time on the seat back and torque both aft bolts and then torque both forward bolts.

note make sure your seat can fold down before torquing as you may have to shift the sub inboard a bit.

Got mine today.. Nothing visibly wrong, removed speaker packing. Install this weekend!

I wonder if I could throw a JL Audio 10TW3 in here and replace the JBL Sub.

 

You would want an amp for sure and maybe a new box lol. James designed this box, for this sub, to be driven off the OEM JBL amp. So basically this I'd a custom designed set up for us OEM JBL guys. If a different sub would work better, I bet he would have used that sub instead of the JBL sub he chose.

 

The specs aren't far off...I'm not sure of the cubic space needed with the box for either sub, looking for that info, but the wattage is similar and I wouldn't do the JL unless I was adding an additional amp with a DSR1, that's why I was wondering if I could swap, if I got more power in the future. I also think the reason James wouldn't run the JL oppossed to the JBL is that the JL is 3x the cost. $119 vs $319...

Exact same. I've always ran JL so I leaned towards that but the Alpine Type R and the Kicker got great reviews and the Kicker can be had for WAY cheaper..Once I decide my 5 Channel, decisions, decisions...

 

Price on kicker has me leaning that way. I’m sure it will be plenty bass for me while I wait in the day care pickup line. Of course I ordered a single channel amp before the hertz group buy, so now I have a four channel waiting to be hooked up too lol

 

Haha I find that the JRT sub thumps plenty of bass for the daycare pickup line.

 

I know, I should totally leave it alone. Mine was a damaged one so I’m just looking for instant gratification. James was awesome when I reached out. New one should be on the way in now time.

 

I hear ya.. mine was a damaged one too. he shipped instantly friday and I received a new one Monday and installed yesterday. very painless process and well worth it. impressive what a quality sub will do vs the Mickey mouse one that the truck came with.

 

I would imagine it might work, not too sure with the factory JBL amp. I can tell you this, if it does work at 4 ohms, the ouput would be considerably LESS.

 

Repurposed my factory sub LOL, got to install the upgrade before the ice storm hit and so far loving it for the few seconds I listened....

 

I’d be interested in the group buy on the remote start!!

Got my sub installed today. It literally took 35 min to install. Simply moved the driver seat all the way forward, removed the 4 bolts holding the drivers side back seat. Then removed the old sub (4 bolts) cut the wires that went to the plug on the sub side (did not want to alter the truck plug), striped the wires a bit and plugged them into the new sub. Reinstalled the seat and all was done.

It did make a big improvement in the sound. It is not some ridiculous boom or anything, just a much better bass sound. Very happy with the purchase.

 

Just got mine in.

Two words: Holy Sheeet. What a huge difference. The stock sub was barely audible, this one is at least twice to 3 times more bass. This is on XM and Bluetooth. I actually had to back the bass down 1 notch from center for a balanced sound.

Best mod ever for the price.

I did the same as the others 4 bolts out, leaned seat forward, removed old sub, removed wire from sub, installed new sub and put seat back down and bolt it back in starting with the inside rear bolt, then the outside rear bolt. Seat is perfectly aligned.
