I wonder what the logic of the tiny gas tank could be other than to make the payload sound higher on the trucks that get it?

My plan is to upgrade, in a few decades.
I'd like the all-round camera view, but that's all.

I came to the Tundra from a Ridgeline, I have no ego around my truck/vehicle (despite what some *newer* members to the forum may suggest…) unlike some of those new members ( who seem to hold the strongest opinions) I’m an actual owner of a Tundra— I’m very happy with my truck, nothing in the new model year to make me want to jump, yet. I want to see more door jamb stickers, and see how it does in the real world— and from my perspective the writing is on the wall with respect to “ updates” Toyota will make in subsequent model years.

So, IF I’m persuaded to upgrade to a Gen 3 (in lieu of an HD) down the line, I suspect I’ll have an easier time trading in my “gen 2.5” than the first model year of the Gen 3. Does that make sense?

I came from a tacoma to this 21' Tundra, debated if I wanted to wait until the 22' was out but decided to go with the v8.

The looks are alright (although now it just looks like every other truck out there) but the twin turbo v6 somewhat disappointed me. For now I wont be going to the new gen (maybe in 4-5 years), the only reason I would is that hybrid but I already know that it will be way out of the price range/budget.

I honestly feel right at home on the current Tundra, I sat in a Ram 1500 and a new F150 it just felt like there was too much bells and whistles that would probably be cool the first few weeks but end up not using.

Yeah the prices on this new Tundra are going to be crazy especially with this chip shortage and new model. They will let it drop on you$$$$$$$$. I have a 2014 and its only a SR5, will upgrade 2023 to a TRD Pro

Folks, on the forum at least, love mods— My question: How long will it take for the aftermarket to catch-up to the Gen 3 and start developing accessories/mods? I’m in the enviable position of having a new truck benefitting from years and years of aftermarket parts and accessories, I left the (still developing) G2 Ridgeline world and I can say the lack of integration with aftermarket parts was pretty depressing. 2022 pre-orderers be forewarned.

I agree with you on this. 3rd gen tacoma and "2.5" gen tundra had an incredible amount of mods available (especially plug and play).
I am sure it will take a few years (maybe 3-4 years) for the modders to catch up since they wont be able to get their hands on a tundra for the next year or 2.

Also I think that the people that buy the 2022 wont be itching to mod everything out right away. Enjoy the truck for what it is for the time being!

I was between buying a brand new Tacoma or a year or two old certified Tundra back in January/February . My 2010 Tacoma was one of the best cars I've ever had. I opted for less electronic sh..tuff and more space in the Tundra. I will keep my 19 Tundra for probably at least 7 years, add a few more mods over time. It is not my daily driver so the gas mileage really doesn't bother me.

all these little comforts jammed into the new model just lead me to think its going to be priced ridiculously expensive. add the shortages, the rabid truck buying market at the moment and the overall growing pains that new vehicles can bring i couldn't imagine leaving a perfectly great vehicle just to have something new.

Yeah, not only the MSRP will be higher but also the dealer markups will be stupid on these.

All of the things you mentioned can easily be upgraded for a minimal cost on a current Tundra. Also, are you talking side by sides or quads? Also, all the power to you buying a new Tundra. I am pretty stoked on the options and upgrades but love the current design. (just bought my 3rd gen 2.5) I have had zero issues with my tailgates but I also run lighter dirt bikes and not quads, etc.

I stopped saying NEVER. But, I love my V8. If it turns out Toyota makes a reliable twin turbo that gets substantially better mileage. AND IF, the new Tundra can be equipped with a locker in the medium price point models. AND IF, the new truck's price has not gone sky high. Then I would like to buy the shorter cab version (kids are gone) with a 6.5 ft. bed for a light Four Wheel Camper or a Go Fast style shell.

Comparing the aftermarket situation of the Ridgeline, to the Tundra is a waist of time. The Ridgeline never had the enthusiast following that the Tundra has, and thus, nowhere near the aftermarket support. That being said, I can assure you that if the aftermarket community is not already getting exposure to the new gen, then they will by December.

You can look back to 2014, on this forum and watch the progression of aftermarket products for the new gen ("3rd gen" at the time, now 2.5). That first year, aftermarket accessories were pretty basic. But, by late 2015, quite a bit more "high end" goodies available in the way of armor, suspension, etc. And, I disagree with a previous poster in that there will be delays with the aftermarket community having access to the new gen. I think by Christmas, 2022, there will be a pretty damn good selection of aftermarket products available. That being said, considering how much people will be paying for the their new Tundies, God only knows how they will be able to afford aftermarket upgrades.
And, regarding your 2.5 gen trade in, YES, you will have a much easier time trading it in!

I just bought a 2021 Limited Nightshade DC when I heard from my dealer that the 2022 would not have a V8. I just wanted to keep it as a V8 and figure it will have better resale value as a "Old school V8" LOL!
I will not be in the market for another Tundra until the NEXT generation hopefully. :)

Here is mine from a couple days ago ... I need to get better photos lol.

Or breaking. My previous truck (a 2013 F150) was reliable, for the most part, but I had several issues with it (3.31 gearing, terrible suspension, etc.), and the worst issues were always with the 'features.' I'm an IT guy, so I love technology and creature comforts...but those things are also almost always the first things to break.

Lots of TRD parts already in the works, you can get factory 3" lift kit, also keep in mind that Mike Sweer (head of development) has a sweet DC in voodoo blue that has glass fenders, fully kitted out Fox suspension etc.

Engineer said weight. His goal was 4hrs of continuous driving while towing. That was the capacity goal. Anything beyond that hurt the payload numbers.

the 22+ lift is factory, so probably just aftermarket with Toyota branding, I'd assume they are going to expand TRD catalog, we can probably see lots of wheels, suspension, skid plates, bumpers is always hard, I really wanted the Ram Rebel OTG bumper, mopar said it was coming out, then waited, and waited...... I think they mentioned something about the bumpers would require a crash test.

Could be true but yet to be seen. I came from a 2nd gen 3.5 Ecoboost 10sp and when you're towing or on the pedal it's everything but Eco. The moment I threw on LT rated tires my mileage dropped more than expected. Whether or not the Toyota twin screw will be more efficient under load is still up in the air unless specs have been published. The Fords were highly inflated for in city driving although on the highway mileage was impressive.

6.5’ bed with the crewmax, locking rear differential, double the fuel economy, coil spring rear suspension, hybrid has significantly more power.

I have a 2019 and love it, but with my weight capacity I can’t take my entire family on a trip and tow a travel trailer comfortably or legally.

been driving around town the last few months for the first time in my life, and the amount of fuel I go through is insane.

only thing stopping me from upgrading is California sales tax and registration fees, plus I got 5k off msrp with my 2019 and I don’t see that happening on the newer trucks at least for another 2 years.

Can't argue with anything written here so far and the 110% copy of the GMC 1500 except with a Lexus Fugly inspired grill is embarrassing. BUT, and I think nobody can argue, the 583 lb-ft of torque hybrid will be worth a trip to a dealer for a test drive. Lord, that will give the supercharged V8 all it can handle. I can only hope the 4-5 year refresh completely changes the frontend or aftermarket attacks it like D-day. SDHQ literally just had a meeting. Boss, "How many Tundra's sell annually" - 112,000. Boss, "We need to build 112,000 grills immediately".

V-8 for life? I hope you are an old guy. If not, eventually you won't be driving a V8. And if you are young enough, eventually you won't be driving a gas/diesel vehicle.
