    Added remote start.
    Hey all,

I had a question about my boyfriend's Tundra and google lead me here. So over the weekend we got me a new highlander with the keyless entry (I think that's what it's called, where you keep the fob in your pocket, pull the handle and it unlocks.) and I really enjoy it.

So my question is this, is there a way to add a keyless entry system on his truck? He has an aftermarket remote start but you need to hit the lock button three times to get it started.

He always forgets that the door is locked and tries to open the passenger side door when he's loading up in the morning. So I figured I would see if there was anything we could get.

He has a 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum ed. no other modifications besides the remote start. I know its a long shot but he's birthday is coming up in a few months so it's either going to be this or a train whistle horn for the truck.

    Welcome from NY.

    In reality no.

Anything can be done but it's not going to be cheap and you would have to do a lot of electrical work.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! You ought to get your boyfriend to join you on this forum - after his birthday of course! And just the fact that you thought of this as a birthday gift for him makes you an awesome girlfriend!

Welcome from Ontario Canada . I think the easiest way would be to trade it in on one that has it .

Welcome! If the truck is a Platinum Edition, it should already have the keyless entry from the factory. Its hard to say what the problem could be without knowing the brand of the remote start or if its the factory fob.

Edited: Regular keyless entry where you have the remote fob to lock and unlock should be on the truck. The touch to open that your highlander has would be different and more involved.

Her boyfriend's Platinum is a 2016. Did they have the keyless entry that year?

Good to know we're the #1 Tundra site google comes up with nowadays.

I would think his truck came with a keyless FOB when it was purchased. He may be able to buy another one at the dealer or elsewhere and get it programmed.

Seems kind of weird you have a aftermarket key FOB with a "lock" button you press 3 times but the lock feature doesn't work itself.

    Welcome.

Welcome from the wet side of WA.

Smart keyless touch entry isn't going to be an option without buying a LOT of expensive parts and running extensive new wiring in the truck.

You can have the dealership re-program the truck so that a single unlock press on the key fob will unlock ALL the doors instead of just the driver's door on the first press.
