What donut shop? We have Chuck’s up here in Renton. They’ve been doing preorders a couple times a week for the last few weeks. Nice to get a treat every now and then.

Donut report: Legendary Donuts in Issaquah (they have a few locations around the Seattle region). Daughter bailed on me since she gets TV/gaming time Saturday mornings. But the wife made the journey, so it was a nice outing together.

The apple fritter and old fashioned are normal size, so you can see how their glazed rounds (called Homer Simpson) and chocolate/maple bars are huge. It's a mixed bag really. The fritter was too thin, so it was super dense and did't get cooked in the middle. I'm a sucker for a good fritter and this is a common problem. The chocolate on the bar was strange; no one liked it in my family. The maple bar was pretty good. The dough part was super thick, light and airy and the maple good (but not spectacular). The straight forward round glazed (Homer) was the best. Just a delicious, classic. The square is a glazed "croissant". Dense and greasy...hard pass. The old fashion was good, but could have come from Safeway.

Final result was they were pretty good and worth another trip if we're headed to Issaquah. But I've got two Top Pots closer to me and those are just as good for the most part.

@PNW_Husky - I've had Chuck's donuts before. Their maple bar is still my favorite...that whipped maple is heaven.

I have heard of it but haven't tried it yet. I don't make it to the Tri-Cities as often as I'd like

No good donut joints in the Vancouver area that I've heard of. Only Portland but it's not worth the drive. Voodoo's OK but I don't care for some of their subject matter or explicit varieties in plain view of minors. I don't want to patronize them for that. There's also Blur Star but they're too expensive and their apple fritters are like eating tree bark.

I'd heard Voodoo was a lot of hype. We walked past them about a year ago and thought it was nuts the line was so long (after lunch) for a donut. Then again, my head on a swivel down there with all the crack heads. The entire environment was wrong.

I had Blue Star on my list to visit. I'll pay stupid prices once, but I'm irked you say they jack up their fritters...

BTW - @bleach your avatar cracks my chit up. I laugh every time I see it....and hear that character saying "Just passing by...."

I'm a big apple fritter "connoisseur". If a donut shop can't make a good apple fritter then I don't have much faith in the place. I have to admit Voodoo does make a great apple fritter. The Voodoo I went to didn't have much of a line when I went there on Sunday morning.
The quest for a great apple fritter in the general Vancouver area continues.

Been in the area since late 40’s/50’s. It grew up with the area, family run and all that jazz. Still looks like it is from the 50’s. As the name states they use potato flour so they promote that difference.

Yeah, I love a good fritter too. Top Pot makes a blueberry fritter in the summer that's amazing. We have friends in the Vancouver area, but never get donuts when we are down there...let me know if you find something good!

Now I really want to try it...

I love the complete review. I’m not a huge Top Pot fan, personally. They are too dense for my liking. If you are ever in Totem Lake/Kirkland area, Countryside Donuts is really good. My grandfather used to take me there as a kid. He’s now 94 has been going there every day for the last 35 years. With everything being closed down, the owner delivers them to his house, these days. Pretty cool to see as my grandfather has supported their business through three generations of donut makers.

I’ve visited them many times actually. That’s a great, classic shop with no frills. Funny you mention your grandfather. I remember going in there a few times in the morning and seeing a handful of old guys sitting around with a donut and coffee. Just chewing the fat. Very cool the owner is delivering during the lockdown.

I might just need to go there next time i get a hankering....

Very likely it was he and his same group of donut store friends. Next time you go take a look at the wall near the donut case, my grandfather has traveled all parts of the world and used to take a donut with him and take pictures in various countries. Pretty weird, but it kept the old guy entertained.

I started my diet today. Sucks.

If you guys need to do any grocery shopping for meat, do it now. A friend of mine knows a local meat wholesaler and he said the supply is drying up. He cannot fulfill orders right now. This guy supplies some of the big chain grocery stores in the area.

We went to Costco tonight and they have TP and paper towels, but no fresh chicken and very limited ground beef. Rest of the fresh meat was of limited supply too. Even the bags of frozen chicken breasts/thighs were one per customer. Next few weeks should be interesting...

Hmm, I might have to make a Costco run tomorrow. I wonder if it's the same here on the east side of the mountains.
We've got venison/elk in the freezer and just ordered 1/4 beef. Low on frozen chicken though.
These guys could be dinner in a few months if times get tough :D

Great question...I know meat packing plants are shutting down around the US, but no clue how it impacts regional or local supplies. Wasn't trying to start a panic, just sharing info. Hopefully it's just a local thing and doesn't impact everyone....

I like it over hash browns with a runny egg on top (plus hot sauce). Or just mixed in with scrambled eggs. Use it to make soup too. My wife makes home-made ramen with rib meat and pulled pork would work too.

How are you going to cook it? I usually get two shoulders from Costco and the wife just quarters the meat after I smoke it and vacuum seals it for the freezer. Then we eat good for a few months...

Anybody looking for reclaimed wood? I have like 8 8ft fence sections left from my garage gym build I’m looking to give away. I am putting them on CL here in a minute.
Here is before and after with just some fence and deck cleaner from HD and a pressure washer.
