Yeah I would like to have a truck too just in case. Maybe I can keep this as a daily then find a nice project K5 blazer for fun stuff.

Hit a deer going to work yesterday. Or I should say, a deer leaped out of the bushes directly in front of me yesterday.

working with insurance to get things back into one peice. I’m fine. No airbag deploy. 99% sure it’s only cosmetic stuff, but there’s a slight difference in the line on either side of the hood that slightly concerns me. One drivers headlight mount tab is broken, so it did hit far enough up that corner to have potentially done something to the sheet metal.

Only twice in 30 years of driving. And the other time I wasn’t driving and the deer actually ran into us (center punched the drivers door).

    it sucks, but it’s fixable.

Closest call I've ever had was on the drive home from the dealership with my new frontier. It came at a full sprint from a swampy area. I full on ABS panic braked and it was so close to my hood that the swamp water flew off of the deer and got on my windshield :eek2:

Man that's a bummer. Hopefully insurance is easy going. You going to stick with OEM bumper?

Dang. Glad you are okay. I think you have a SSO on order. Have you gotten it yet? Cuz it might be cheaper for insurance to buy you a full-up offroad bumper. Just have them replace the grill and boom…done

shits is that my SSO bumper literally shipped on Thursday and is due here next week.
I’ve got several ideas swimming in my head right now, all of which depend on what the body shop and insurance have to say about price and timing. If it’s going to take them half the damn summer to be able to do the work, then I likely will order a full replacement front and have them do that (if insurance will allow it). Between my buddy at work that just bought an Ironman bumper and a couple of LR owners that have reached out on here, I could cobble together a temporary lower bumper that would at least keep me from looking like total ghetto trash while I wait. The grill and during damage isn’t too noticeable until you are close, but the caved in bumper sure is.

    No
Shit thing is that it was still alive but badly hurt, flipping around in the opposite ditch. I didn’t have my pistol on me to put it out if it’s misery. I turned around and ran home (was only a few miles away) and then called the sheriff’s office on my way back to the spot. They told me that I couldn’t euthanize it myself…when I got back to the spot it wasn’t in the ditch but I could hear it thrashing around in the brush up over the hill (all private property).

I don’t need to take any chances with legal issues, so I had to leave it. I hate seeing/knowing animals are suffering…ruined my day and then everything else the whole day just piled on top of it.

Yeah, that makes for a shitty day.

I called for permission to put down a gut shot cow elk one year, they also said no. Had to leave that poor girl thrashing around in the woods.
It's a shame they haven't come up with a procedure for those situations.

I've never been in a situation like that but should I find myself in that position I probably would just do it and not tell anyone as long as it was safe to do so.

If it’s on the road or a danger to others, they’ll send out an officer. DFW will try to find and euthanize if it’s easy access and an officer is in the area (I actually had one call me later in the day to tell me he had tried to locate it but wasn’t able to).

If my pistol had been in my backpack or console like it is 85% of the time (I had taken it out two weeks ago because I was flying and my truck was going to be parked at the airport), I would’ve done it and never thought twice. That’s why I went back to the house and got it, but then called 311 first and they said no.

I felt terrible but it's such a tough call to make. Someone could be hunting/hiking and see you dispatch the animal and call you in. By the book, it's poaching.

No deer In 54 years if driving, but I had a one in billion chance where two horses jumped out in front of me from bushes that came to the road’s edge. I think there was a third further down the road I was just noticing. It was 4:30 am on my R 1200 GS motorcycle. Totaled my bike and almost me. 9 days in the hospital. I decided to stick to 4 wheels now. Love my tundra and it’s massiveness.

My uncle came around a blind corner into a cow on his bike about 40 years ago. Months in the hospital trying to put his leg and pelvis back together - he still can’t walk more than 100 yards without excruciating pain.

I also remember a guy in my high school hitting a deer one morning on his bike. Split the deer in half and he was lucky he was wearing gear and a helmet (not common back then) - he went over the handlebars and rolled/skidded a long ways before he stopped. Miraculously he had minor road rash and no other serious damage to himself.

there was a brief point in my life long long ago where I considered a bike - it didn’t last long and the itch has never returned.

Whelp, if you go the full bumper route I might be interested in taking the SSO off your hands. Not sure I can get that expenditure approved but let me know…

I was wearing full protection, padded pants and jacket, graphite knuckle gloves, and full face helmet. Knee high motorcycle boots. I had a quarter sized visible bruise on my knee. I thought I was ok, picked up the bike with a passing motorist, and had a deputy follow me home, about 2 miles, handle bars were at 45 degrees and the front brake reservoir was gone. Bike did some tumbling as well as myself. 3 hours later I went to ER, where they said to be prepared for a lot of action after hearing my story. After testing, the transferred me to a level 2 trauma hospital 30 miles away. Busted spleen that luckily self healed, 4 broken ribs, but the detached lung had them worried and kept me in the hospital. The docs did the poke a tube through the ribs to drain some fluid. Yeah, most everyone I’ve known has had a crash on their bikes. It happens to the best of riders.

Man, lots of deer hitting drama tonight. I kissed the butt of one in my F150 one morning in Tualatin. Dang thing slid across the road and got up to see another day. That said, none of the horrors spoken come close to this… I washed and waxed yesterday…

Agree with the deer drama tonight. Saw a few in Leavenworth while camping since Wednesday. Didn’t hit any so we celebrated with burgers and rootbeer shakes!

Anyone in Vancouver/Portland area have the center black section of their bumper still laying around after installing an aftermarket one? It’s driving me nuts to drive and with my front end punched in while I wait for body shop and insurance. I’m thinking once the insurrection is done and the shop orders parts I’ll at least temporarily replace the bumper if I can get the parts for cheap…
