The CX-9 is nice, I've looked at that for our next suv.
Realistically we're 2-3 years out from the Sequoia being my daily and keeping the Tundra for weekends.
Mainly looking at Rav4 hybrid and prime, Subaru wilderness editions and the next gen 4R. My mind is always going! :goingcrazy:

My wife was out there today giving away tasters of her latest sauerkraut creations for feedback. Sounds like it went pretty well, but the truffle salted sauerkraut may have been the winner of the three she brought

she said he might be up to hosting a group of us degenerates

I didn’t have great luck with them on my 2008. Long wearing (80k miles on my first set), and good in snow and mud, but I had trouble keeping them from spinning on wet pavement once they wore about 40% off the tread. I gambled on a second set because of the longevity of the first set, and I fought balancing issues and the same wet pavement traction issues for about 50k miles before getting rid of them.

I think part of it was how stiff they were in E-rating/10-ply. From a stop sign, if it was raining at all (even just damp pavement), I had to be very gentle on throttle or go peeling out through the intersection. And I had a few times where I was genuinely worried about stopping in time when I had to brake hard.

Have had a few friends that worked at DT over the years that have helped me get good prices or extra freebies. Grew up with LS being the best around (N. Idaho) with incredible customer service and fair prices. That has died at a lot of their locations. We’ll still use LS sometimes if the deal is right but only go to a few select locations where we’ve been treated the way they used to. The Battle Ground one is a fucking joke…
Mostly I continue to use DT for selection and I’ve had great service from the Vancouver one. If they stop giving good service, I’ll start looking at new options.

We had a 2007 CX-9 that we finally sold in 2018 after getting my wife a 2017 Forester and then my daughter driving it for a year. Great car, still going strong and no issues whatsoever. Bang for the buck and longevity it’s really hard to beat a Mazda. Ultimately my wife wanted something smaller since the kids were driving their own and we weren’t shuttling then and friends all over the country side anymore. Wish they still made small trucks in the US…would be perfect for my younger one.

    Ok gonna poll the audience:
Lease is almost up(6’ish months). I’m way in the positive for a lease. I realize that doesn’t happen 99% of the time.
So looking for vehicle replacement or keep the Tundra.
    Options below-
    1. Keep this Tundra. Stop reading here.
    2. Get a Tesla model Y or a 3.
    3. Get the Subaru Wrx STI that has escaped you twice already.
    4. Go Audi S4 or Q5 or 7. Sq5 or 7 if I get a good deal. Family member used to be the gm at one of the major Audi dealers in our area.
    5. Pray for no snow on work days and get a new Lexus IS 500(preferably launch edition).
Anything else doesn’t really make sense.

For consideration I drive 52 miles a day for work. That goes up to 78 on soccer nights.
Daughter had tournaments all over the state.

I will barely be under lease mileage this time. First 2 years I had the truck I went like 12k(total). This year I have gone about 16k so far. This mileage is more accurate for normal use now.

Well pretty intoxicated now at Langers. Let me know what you think.

Do you need a truck for truck things, or is it just a daily driver that could be any vehicle? Of yes need a truck, 1. If just a vehicle and any will do, 3.

No matter what you do, I don't think you want to turn the lease in and leave cash on the table.
I say buy your truck and then take the time to figure out what rig you can't live without. Should have a really good down payment by then with the trade in.

I agree with answering Tim’s first question. If you don’t have a need for a truck then you lots of choices. With that long of a commute looking at hybrid or electric might be a good idea.

I don’t really “need” a truck. I no longer have weekend hobbies thanks to soccer. I need to be able to transport a cooler, EZ up or pop up for shade, and suitcases.

I agree. I know what equity I have in it. Not leaving anything behind. If dealer try’s to not cash me out I would finance with my bank immediately. F the dealer. Not buying anything from them again.

That Tesla model Y would be the smart choice hands down. But I usually don’t mark the best choice. More like…Oh something shiny!
Thanks for weighing in you guys.

I forgot the Sequoia might still be on the list.

if the used car market ever fixed itself I would consider used…with no payment.

Yeah, good call with your bank. I would even get pre-approved before going in.
Knowing the market, let's see if they try to play games to get the truck. They know they can make a killing on it right now.

I don’t know shit about 4 or 5. If you need a truck (or really really want a truck and don’t mind the fuel costs), then 1. If you don’t need a truck and that WRX will haunt you till the end of your days, then 3. If don’t need the truck and you want a low maintenance and very inexpensive-to-drive (after the up-front cost) commuter vehicle with enough room to haul your kids to/from soccer, then that Model Y is a hell of a rig.

With the miles you drive, I’d buy something I’d want to commute in. A WRX doesn’t strike me as a good commuter.

I hate to say this, but buy the truck and then flip it. Take the cash and get a Tesla. I don’t foresee a drop in gas prices anytime soon (or ever again).

You may want to check into the reliability of the vehicles you mentioned. You may have gotten spoiled with it with a newer Tundra.
Too many variables of your car choices and it’s use for me to make a decision.
Another is the cost of insurance, I looked into a Tesla years ago and it was double that of a BMW. Reliability ratings of a Tesla are not that good per some reports. I don’t know anyone personally that has a Tesla.
Definitely buy the lease and sell the Truck.

another thing that is worth mentioning is that tesla is a tech company trying to be a car manufacturer vs other car manufacturer trying to implement new tech into their cars. Just dont be suprised by shotty car manufacturing process.

Thanks guys. This aligns pretty darn close with what I have been thinking. I don’t necessarily need a truck right now. I am used to forking out about 100 a week on gas. I don’t like it..but I could continue if needed. That STI is only on the list cause I still like them and it’s AWD. I have to think about the possibility of crappy weather and making it across town.

I would lean towards buying out the lease like others suggested. Ever thought of getting and modding a #dadwagon? I’ve seen some pretty nice wagons (Subaru, Audi’s, etc) tricked out. We sort of did the same thing years ago when daughter was in club volleyball and we were driving all over during winter. Wife got an Outback, we put a rack on top to put in gear. Cooler went in the back. Kid slept in the back seat laying down during those early morning commutes. Still one of the best cars we own. A 2012 and Wife still will not get rid of it. Although I do have a strange desire to wear wool, sandals and eat granola more then days……

I will say, and this is not intended to get political, it’s my personal opinion, that it feels like we are approaching the end of the ICE age. Not entirely, not immediately and not across all lines of vehicles. But IMO, a major shift has started. For example, an auto show I watch reported recently that Volvo is committed to going all electric by the end of the decade (maybe sooner; I don’t remember the actual date) and Audi has already stopped new development of ICE’s.

So… maybe it is time to buy that STI or other dream car before the next generation moves to a hybrid or EV model. Not sure it is time for a “last call”, but it might be based upon your dream rig. You know, the car you’ll drive for a few years and then park in the garage for sunny weekend drives.

Well, I know my tpms exists. Aired down the tires yesterday in snow, got the warning light on the way home.
I ain't got no fancy tire pressure readout like you 2018+ guys.

I have thought about it. I am not positive what Subaru wagon I would like. But as for Audi some of those A6’s all roads look pretty nice.
I am planning on initially buying out my lease. There is a clause in the lease documents that says “if” your vehicle appreciates they have to offer to pay you the remainder or something. I looked that up about a year ago.

Reliability is important for sure. But just cause it was a new Tundra doesn’t mean it’s perfect. I have had almost $9k worth of warranty work done to this one. That’s almost $8k more then my 11Tacoma, 14 4runner, 15 4Runner, 15 Tundra, and 17 Camery combined. But still like this truck.
I will have to check longevity of some of the possibilities. Insurance too. Not trying to save some money on gas only to spend it on insurance.
