Well that sucks balls. There are a couple of people on OfferUp that sometimes have a lot of tundra parts. Curious. I’ll keep my eye out.

Any idea how they got at the truck? These trucks seem hard to steal without the fob

Unfortunately his girlfriend left their other car unlocked. The thief grabbed the garage door opener, went into the house and took the Tundra keys. Scary sh*t.

There was some news last week on how garage door openers are the new “key” for criminals. Guess I need to put some thought into that problem

I wish Toyota didn’t provide constant power to the mirror. I’m considering rewiring the connector to be accessory power instead

Yeah, I've been locking my garage with the deadbolt style lever at night or when I'm away. I take my keys upstairs at night as well. Shit*y what things have become.

LE is also recommending removing garage door openers and registration/insurance info when vehicles are parked at the gym/movie theatre/trail heads etc. Apparently there's been more than a few breakins when owners are at out of the house.

Great minds think alike. Let me know if you figure it out…I’m going to recon too

Yeah, that’s an old trick crooks use. I’d kept mine in the truck’s lock box until my son started driving. He doesn’t know the combo (or gets to know), so gotta solve that prob too.

I plan to sell them. I have a small pile of stock parts I plan to sell…eventually.

If you’re interested in the stock LED fogs just shoot me a PM.

I’m also interested in this. I haven’t connected my garage doors to the mirror yet because I haven’t had the GD openers since I’ve had the house. I just ordered openers today to be able to connect the mirror.

My truck came with the regular plain rear view mirror. I bought a gentex mirror with homelink and ran the power from the fuseblock down by the drivers footwell. Tapped it off a switched slot so mirror does not have power when truck is not on.

I found this video about FOBs, long video short, they’re not all that secure and organized crime is able to copy the signal and replicate it to get into the truck and drive off. So due diligence, make it less appealing (stuff outta sight) and taking precautions is the best way to diminish the likelihood. Sorry about what your brothers going through. Hope it works out for the best.

My wife and I had this exact conversation last night.

Her: Why are you going to keep the stock wheels? I see those driving around every day and they are boring!
Me: I want my truck to look 'normal' to the average Joe, but those that know Tundras will be able to see there is something different about it.

I have all the stuff except tires... hoping to get through the coming chaos over the next few weeks and get everything polished off while I am on Christmas holiday.

Side note for all my cold wet friends... I am finding condensation inside the windows and I think the truck being so tight is part of the problem. I don't drive it much (work from home, boy's school is 1/2 mile away, taekwondo is 5 miles away) and I think that I am getting it warm enough so that when it cools down I get condensation, and I am not driving it enough to clear out that moisture before parking for the day/night. Does that make sense?

Question, is anyone using Damp Rid or Dri Z Air in their vehicles? I know they are popular in RVs, and I used Dri Z in my old Ford as I was chasing a water leak a few years back.

Short of "driving it', anyone have experience or thoughts here?

That video popped up here on the forum last summer. I picked up a couple of shielded boxes off Amazon and our fobs live in there.

You can also shut off the fob by pushing the buttons in a certain sequence (that I forgot).

No clue on that one. Five miles seems like long enough to purge the system. Are you using defrost when driving? That runs the air through the A/C system and acts like a dehumidifier. Might be worth a try.

Share a link when you have a sec. Think this will be a Christmas holiday project

You can turn off the fob by holding lock, while also pressing unlock twice at the same time. You will see the red light flash a few times. To turn it back on you just lock or unlock your vehicle.

Haven't posted on this thread steadily for quite awhile. Work has been crazy. Now I got the rest of November off. So if anyone wants to get on some trails or anything let me know. Been headed out locally but would be nice to have another truck as well.

Question for the Portland folks. I’m headed to the OR coast this weekend and will be traveling thru Portland around peak commute (really looking forward to that). Apple Maps is telling me taking Hwy 26->6 to Tillamook or Hwy 99W ->18 is nearly the same duration.

Do you recommend picking based on traffic or avoiding one route all together?

26 to 6 will likely be better for traffic. Once you get out past North Plains traffic starts to drop off. Going down the 99 to 18 route puts you in the Sherwood, Newberg, and McMinnville traffic. Lots of people live out there so much more traffic overall.

However, the 18 route is a better road overall and you have more options for services, food, etc. For example when taking the trailer to the coast I go 18 even though there is more traffic I like the road better when towing and with the kids with me.

Planning a trip to the mountains next weekend so I am going to pick up some chains from Les Schwab this weekend. I assume actual chains for our trucks and not the cable version?

I eventually want to upgrade the tires to a three peaks tire but that won’t happen in the next week.

    I would go 18.

I think you are coming from Central WA? If so, I would look at 84 - 205 (avoid downtown) - Tualatin Sherwood Road (one exit north of 205 on I-5) - 99W - 18 (turn left before you get to McMinnville and check out the Spruce Goose!) - 101.

You will hit slow spots at 84/205, 205 approaching I-5 and on TS road. But, it is afternoon traffic and you are staying away from downtown.

I think we previously agreed that all the WA members here live in Seattle.

I typically take HWY 6 to Tillamook but there's a stretch of uneven bumpy road between Gales Creek and Lee's Camp. Lots of accidents there in the past few weeks FYI.
