Just looked at the maintenance on the online manual via the Toyota app. Apparently they change the oil and filter four times and torque the body nuts and bolts twice!;)

I don’t recall on any service sheets for my former 4Runner that the dealer indicated that they torqued anything, whether once or twice. I always wondered but never asked, in part because the 4Runner was so solid that I felt like touching anything stood a chance of messing it up

I doubt they do most of the “inspect” tasks on a new rig.

The easiest way to tell is when your aftermarket wheel lug nut covers fall off on the way home.

This is similar to check for wheel balancing as well. Absence of any weights is a giveaway.

And the cake topper: to check if oil was changed at the oil change appointment…just pull the dip stick. If the oil is black the answer is no. I guess to be fare that was back when the Tacoma interval was different depending on your engine and oil used.

    Happy Friday everyone!

Any big plans for the weekend? We are doing an adults night out tomorrow but otherwise just relaxing.

Need to sneak to the island in our cul de sac and cut some trees back at some point. Will probably piss off one of my neighbors, but the branches are starting to hang too far into the street

Most areas have an ordinance requiring minimum 12’ or 14’ vertical clear from the edge of the road bed or easement for egress and access. We had a company come in last year and do our entire private road (~1 mile).

Plans are to drink beer, backyard fire in the fire pit, and then take the whole next week off to go camping for the last time before school starts.

Laws vs. enforcement. Reasonable vs. “what the entitled neighbor wants”.

    Risk vs reward basically.

    Happy Friday!
Lake Chelan cabin plans got canceled due to the fire and level 3 evacuations. Impromptu BBQ at my buddy's house instead.

DD exhaust going on today. :burnrubber:

Well no big deal just got an email that our remodel company is having doors delivered on Thursday. Must have forgot I have zero room in my garage. So now I’m moving all the new appliances to one of my kids room, reorganizing the garage(minus the gym) and trying to figure out where our current fridge will fit in the garage.

Has to be done today because tomorrow is the start of the next tournament. So no time this weekend. Then trim is getting delivered on Tuesday during the electrical and plumbing final walk through.

Then I get to redo some of this when the Pod gets delivered on the 4th.

    Fun times.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

And if you piss of the neighbors I’ll live vicariously through you as right now two of mine are starting to get on my nerves. I have stain overspray coming over one fence and concrete saw dust coming from the other side.

At the dealer paying for the oil change, but he “cut me a deal” at $49.95 so can’t complain.

No inventory, only one new Tundra SX for $46k with a couple dealer added options. One used Sequoia and one new 4R, a few used 4Rs.

Looks like converted the “kid zone” to an office and were too lazy to paint over the sign. Thinking I am going to tell my kids to go in and go nuts since it’s the kid zone. Need something to keep me entertained!;)

    Haven’t been there yet…
Used to use Gladstone all the time, but it’s a long drive and so I started just using McCord here in Vancouver. They’re OK I guess. Didn’t have great experiences at Broadway or Beaverton. And I’ll never go anywhere near Wilsonville again - bunch of crooks

Weird how you just nailed problem’s number 1 & 2 I mentioned earlier. I doubt you’d get the third. That’s a long drive to NC.

Anyway Royal Moore is where we got the wife’s 4Runner after I lost my mind on Wilsonville. Unfortunately they are too far for routine maintenance. They try and get us out there though.

Yeah. Went into Wilsonville for a brake job, and their “complimentary inspection” quoted me $11k in repairs on my 2008 (that was only worth $8k bluebook at that time).
After regaining my composure, I asked if they could show me every single thing they were quoting was wrong on the truck and why it needed fixed.
I left paying only for the original brake job (because they already had started that so I couldn’t tell them to just put the fucking wheels back on so I could leave). Then drove it another 80k miles without any of those “repairs” being needed.

Not a huge fan of dealerships in general because I don’t deal well with bullshit.

Years ago we traded my wife’s Honda CRV in for a Honda Odyssey when our second was small and we had to haul all the baby stuff along with the toddler stuff. The typical dance started about how they valued the trade and the work they need to do. Started to tell me how they need to replace the timing belt on the CRV. I told him point blank that you don’t and just smiled. I let him continue rambling for a bit about until I suggested he should really go run the VIN and he will find that the engine in that CRV was the engine that used a timing chain that did not need to be replaced. I also mentioned that his dealership had done all the servicing of that vehicle so he can go check the records if he was worried about any missed factory recommended services. He stepped away for a bit and then came back and gave me the value I wanted in the trade.

You just reminded me of the time Beaverton told me that I needed to replace the timing belt in my 5.7L Tundra, and that I should do the water pump too while they were in there.

Just do the transfer case and differentials that I asked you to do and give me my truck back…

No issues so far with Lewiston Toyota. I should give another try to the one in Walla Walla. New owners from the coast somewhere. It is no longer McCurley Toyota, it is now Walla Walla Toyota. I've never been to the one in Tri-Cities. Just tried to do online buying and never bought from them. How close are these Toyota places over there? I got anywhere from 50- 100 miles between stores.

^^^^ Hence why I can't stand taking my vehicles into dealerships for anything....

Sounds like a few of you have some fun plans this weekend. I'll be running the BBQ tomorrow night with friends, with Sunday being a wax day for one of my fun cars.

Most of the brands require at least 10 miles between stores. That is probably the distance between Beaverton and Royal Moore, both on the same highway. I live pretty close to equal from both which is handy if I need to price check parts. The others in Portland are a bit further in Wilsonville, by the Rose Quarter, Gladstone, and then way east (from me) in Gresham.

Wilsonville will only get these current two Toyota’s 2yr/25k services. Once those are done I’ll never step foot there again. They were the lift/wheel balance/alignment issue on my last Tundra.
Beaverton was the wheel center caps falling off on the way home. Then argued with me that they saw the tech torque them down. Well I watched them fall off…wanna guess who was right.

I for the life of me can’t figure out how dealerships can’t/don’t want to figure this out. Train your people and the word will get out. Then you will make money hand over fist from every other dealer around. But nope. They count on them leaving before you ever return again for the next service.

I had one service advisor in San Diego st the Ford dealer for almost 4yrs. Weird how I would return like clock work to get regular maintenance done.

Greater Portland Metro area (25-mile radius including Vancouver) you’ve got:
    Gresham
    Tonkin
    Gladstone
    Broadway
    Wilsonville
    Beaverton
    Royal Moore (Hillsboro)
    McCord (Vancouver)

20 miles north of me is also Dick Hannah (Longview)

I think that’s all of them

Yeah, that was why I used Gladstone for so long. Same service advisor and his lead tech was a neighbor of a close personal friend and he drove the same truck and took care of it.
After they both left Gladstone (the tech retired), I stopped going there.

you know you don’t have to take your truck to the selling dealer. I bought mine in Olympia (90 miles away)… I’m not driving up there for Toyota Care service
