Is there any primitive camping around Santa Cruz? I’m heading down there next weekend and need some advice for a camping spot and and cool places to explore. Staying at Little Basin cg on Friday night(not my choice) but need to find a place to make camp Saturday night. Any thoughts?

New Brighton State Beach in Capitola is really nice but not too primitive - they have rest rooms and showers. You can reserve sites on Reserve California. When I was there over the July 4th holiday there were a lot of empty sites (even though they were 100% booked) so it may be possible to get a site by just showing up.

Costanoa At 2001 Rossi Road at Hwy 1
Pescadero, CA 94060. It’s not really camping it’s like rv parking and bathrooms even has food and cabins. But not much on the coast.

Thanks, I’ll check it out after work.

I knew primitive camping would be tough on the coast. I was hoping that locals had some secret spots they wouldn’t mind sharing.

Everything along the coast is very "civilized" and not much access to auto exploration or foot. Little Basin has some cool trails and can get lost in there for a while. Henry Cowell is pretty tame, but some good hikes and river spots that can be reached by foot. Tough part is finding a reservation on a Saturday. Might be slim pickings this time of year. I'm sure @831Tun has some better suggestions as he lives up in the woods. If you bike or hike Nicene Marks is great for both.

Little Basin shouldn't be too bad, perhaps a little crowded but should be nice. The campground @dcsleeper408 mentioned is New Brighton beach, between Capitola and Aptos. One exit farther down from New Brighton is State Park Dr. There's trailer/RV camping there basically right on the beach.
As far as primitive camping goes, you can head norht, up the coast from Santa Cruz and there are several roads that lead toward the ocean. Though not technically "permitted" I've camped on the side of HWY 1 and various side roads. I spent a night, long time ago, camped at Pigeon Pt. and had steamed mussels that night.
I think a search for BLM land in the area would yield the best results for you.

Almost everything along the coast, north of SC is BLM and unless otherwise posted should be OK.
Santa Cruz county is huge. So, depending where you are, what you wanna do and where you're willing to drive there are a few options. Up off of Summit Road is Buzzard Lagoon, accessed from Rider Rd. if I remember correctly. Haven't been there for a looong time but we used to wheel up there, can't anymore but I don't think there are many houses or people to complain about camping. It's right at the top of Nisene Marks that @SCRunner12 mentioned.
Also, it might be nice to know that we DO have mountain lions. They're all over my neighborhood and have been seen on some of the remote northern beaches and even in the Pleasure Point area.

I believe you can camp at lost coast beach. It’s a fun easy trail to get there. If you do the whole trail like I did there’s some nice views but then it gets dense and it’s all ruts for 30+miles. When I went I did not find a single person on the trail. The beach on the other hand is not so lost anymore, but very nice. 1FE11884-D7FC-4846-B665-DEB29190F079.jpg0461ADC9-B127-4D2A-B30D-1E2F2A622F2A.jpgADFA2CCB-F63D-4314-8D3C-1ED72CB3EA7B.jpg7956D297-BC75-4919-A40A-3B63436B61B7.jpgCBFC0DC1-677E-4548-B5CC-B06069A7092C.jpgDF3D2D7A-FCFE-4DF0-84C9-B854E08497A4.jpg

Does anyone in the Sacramento area have a stock tailpipe sitting around that they want to get rid of? Looking for the section from the muffler clamp back.

So tempted. Does it have all the brackets for the corners? (I have the chrome bumper ends so no brackets. )

Was packed very well. Palette could have fallen off the delivery truck and I believe the bumper would have recieved no damage.

Solid welds all around. Everything was straight, level, square and mounted up easy.

Still playing with the bedside cuts. Already cut twice and not sure I'm done....

Nice! Did the bumper just bolt to the frame? And is the hitch just welded to the bumper?

Bumper mounts up to the frame just like the factory bumper, 5 bolts.

Hitch is welded to the bumper. My completely uneducated opinion is that the factory hitch looks sturdier. I don't believe the SS bumper hitch is rated but I dont tow anything and I believe the hitch is plenty strong to use as a recovery point.

Not a plate bumper but I would say it's more than I step. Should hold up in a collision. I figure any impact that's going to tweak the bumper is going to damage the frame/rear end, similar to what would happen with the oem bumper. Again, I'm not an automotive/structural engineer so take my opinion for what it's worth, not a damn thing.

Here's a better pic I googled to give you an idea of how the bumper looks. My picture taking ability is shit this morning.20190825_100116.jpg
