No worries, I just wanted to provide the clarification. Private sales happen, but even that wouldn't help the OP as even that would not be legal for him.

    @Outbound ...
Why not contact our wonderful NRA for clarification? That's what the NRA is there for. They would know.

The NRA website has a wealth of information too!

Unless there's some weird rule with Californians, you should be able to cross state lines and still buy long guns. I could go to Nebraska or Kansas and buy a shotgun or rifle, just no pistols/NFA items.

    @Outbound .....
Your own NFA might have some info too in regards to your question.
By the way if you do come down....bring Cheezies........:fistbump::boink::cheers:

I was surprised too. It had something to do with an employer having to prove they couldn't find an American to do the job. From what I understand, welding isn't as regulated down there as here so almost anyone can do it (that may be incorrect, just what I was told. The irritating thing is the company I work for has divisions in Texas, Pennsylvania and I think the Dakotas.

Some of our laws are better, but they're complicated as hell. Most gun owners in Canada don't understand them unless they're serious hobbyists and even then, there's a ton of misinformation.

In a nut shell, if a firearms is over 26.5" overall length we're usually good to go. That means short barrelled rifles are fine, as are shotguns. My friend carries a 8.5" barrelled pump action shotgun in the woods for bear defence. Some rifles like the AR15 for example however fall into the restricted category no matter the barrel length, which means we can only shoot them on federally approved gun ranges. The Tavor however is non-restricted. Handguns are restricted. Magazines capacity for semi-auto centerfire rifle and shotgun is limited to 5 rounds, centerfire handgun to 10 rounds. Rimfire is full capacity. Just as a snippet of our inane gun laws...

It all could be a moot point soon though, since the feds are making noises about banning all semi-auto hunting and sport rifles.

No worries, it's been very informative.

The look I get when the topic of guns comes up:
    upload_2019-12-7_16-15-20.jpg

I may have to fire the NRA an email. :)

Our NFA are a bunch of useless twits. The CSSA and CCFR are our better orgs but they don't have much interest in helping a Canuck figure out American laws.

Cheezies will be brought for sure. Payment for Cheezies will have to be in the form of mag dumps at the range though...

Dunno about the Tesla ridgeline. No good at -40...

Above poster is 100% correct - I am from the UK and living in the US on a work visa and and not a permanent resident.
I looked into buying a gun and found it was legal IF I had a hunting license.
When you look at the forms you need to complete to purchase a gun it specifically asks if you are a permanent resident
and If not then it asks you to fill in your hunting license.

Do you have to actually be hunting in order to shoot it or can you buy the hunting licence and gun, then take it onto public land or to the range and do some target practice?

Well that goes without saying haha. I’ve never done a private sale across state lines, so I know nothing about that.

California responds to states that allow Californians to purchase by mandated reporting within CFARS.
Let's suppose that Nevada decides to allow surfer dude to purchase a firearm that's California non compliant. Surfer dude enters state and registers firearm.
Magazine capacity is really interesting. If surfer dude bought hi cap magazines during the freedom week, he's allowed to keep them. If he brought them across state lines outside freedom week, he technically cannot. The problem is, magazines aren't serialized or in any data base. So...
Rifles that fall into the political realm of evil (assault is a verb folks.. Not a noun) must be made compliant by a fixed mag or featureless design. The workaround is a juggernaut assembly that minimally separates the upper for mag release.
Mags in rifles are typically pinned at 10R

The 4473 is your federal background check
The California DROS is your state background and compliance check.

Out of state store acquisitions have a DOJ 30 day hold.

Hope this clears some of the confusion.

    Good info.

I'm gonna be a total dick, even though I agree with the sentiment 10000%. Assault can be a noun. "An assault was mounted against the castle." Like I said, I'm a dick.:stirthepot:

Pew pew isn't high enough on her priority list to warrant a break up. Lol

I'd love to have dual citizenship. I've shaken the crap out of my family tree but nothing that qualifieds me has fallen out.

I believe target practice would be fine, I wouldn't worry about it. There probably is nothing written to address that concern. One has to "site" his gun in, right?

    Deal!

You joke but last time I crossed the border I was chatting with the US customs guy who had a southern accent and pretty much did just that. I said "My woman and I are hard working, freedom loving, truck driving Albertans who love guns, bows and barbecue. That gonna qualify us for residency?" The customs guy drawled back in perfect Texan: "I'm originally from Texas. Y'all sound like you'd fit right in. If it were up to me, I'd rubber stamp y'all a green card right now!" :D

According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, foreign nationals who are in the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa are forbidden from possessing a gun or ammunition unless they meet one of several exceptions. Those exceptions allow for someone with "a valid hunting license or permit, admitted for lawful hunting or sporting purposes, certain official representatives of a foreign government, or a foreign law enforcement officer of a friendly foreign government entering the United States on official law enforcement business."

So is it easier to get a gun as a foreign national w/ non immigrant Visa or a US resident?

    Non-resident gun buying the US?

I'm a tad leery of a non-resident firearm attempting to purchase the entire United States.

What is this weapon's stance on the 2nd amendment? If a foreign gun is gonna be my new king I want to see policy up front.
