Colorado is pretty strict. I should have been more specific. Wyoming.

Head to US border and claim refugee status......due to the extreme cold and long winters that the Canadian government forces you to endure:thumbsup:

Wyoming is like the wild west but then again....not too many MS-13's, Crips or Bloods hanging out at gun shows up there....most bad guys don't buy their firearms at gun shows.

Look at my profile and where I am from. Wyoming gun shows still follow federal background check laws. The ONLY way to purchase a gun without a background check is a private sale, or illegally. Personally, I wouldn't sell a firearm in a personal sale to a resident of a different state without it going through an FFL. I don't want the headache if they do something stupid with it.

I've not seen any private sellers at gun shows. The booth fees would make it pointless.

Also, there is no registering of a firearm in this state. Thank goodness for that.

I figured you 'd know about Wyoming gun show laws, I do like to use the wild west connotation though. AK too:thumbsup:

:threadjacked: My apologies to the OP for the derailment. I'm going to walk away from this thread as I've provided what info I could to answer the original question. Any other discussions here are likely to escalate into something that is potentially bannable. What this derailed into are the exact kind of things that keep from joining firearm forums.:wave:

Well, considering the Canadian guberment is making noises about banning all semi-auto hunting and sporting arms, I was thinking of trying for asylum status based on persecution by a tyrannical government...

I believe you, things have prolly changed. I was up there about a dozen years ago and purchased from a gun show. Guy looked at my license and told me it was only to verify I was 18. Wyoming was a fun place to visit for things you couldn’t get in northern Colorado, guns, fireworks and booze on sundays.

I'm pretty sure the hardest country to immigrate to the US from is Canada. It's honestly easier for me to move almost anywhere else in the world, especially within Commonwealth nations. We've actually looked at moving to Australia or New Zealand for a few years and I passed on 2 year job in Qatar just before I met The Woman. All were much easier to sort out than a work visa in the US.

We'll gloss over the fact that my grandfather served in the USMC and some of my ancestors came over shortly after the Mayflower..

Not so sure about that. Many states allow face to face sales between private individuals. There are guys walking around shows selling guns but are not dealers per se. I bought a pistol from a retired fed agent who was trying to sell a couple of guns to a dealer but the price wasn't right. He walked away and asked him how much? I accepted his price and exchanged cash for the item. He wrote my DL number down and that was it.

But the big difference is, I'm permitted to own firearms. The way I read the law is the OP will need to always be in possession of a hunting license if we wants to own a rifle. But non-resident hunting licenses are several hundred $$$ in many states

There's a fine line between being a dealer and a private seller/hobbyist. You start setting up a booth and selling guns without an FFL, that may catch someone's attention quick.

Forgot that people quoting me will still throw alerts.

This warrants a response purely for clarification and education. The purchase you describe was a private sale from an individual. It was NOT a "gun show purchase" and claiming otherwise is irresponsible. If I am at Walmart and I over hear a customer talking about a firearm they wish to sell and I arrange to purchase it in the parking lot, did I buy the gun at Walmart? o_O

This is not true in Tennessee. Shocked it's true in Wyoming. Only licensed dealers have to conduct background checks at a gun show. If I want to go sell a gun at a show, I am not required to conduct a background check. I've purchased a Glock at a gun show without a background check. It was from some random guy walking around.

And I can even rent a booth at a gun show and sell my entire collection if I want to. Without background checks. So saying it's a myth is a bit disingenuous. Calling it a "loophole" like the media does, is also disingenuous.

We would love to have you here. Surprised welder doesn't qualify. That job is in high demand here.

Doesn't Canada have a few gun laws that are better? I was told you can own short barrel rifles. We can do that here but it's a pain in the ass.

Correct, in Free states where face to face sales are still legal it happens all the time. We don't legally need even a bill of sale for a face to face in Louisiana

For context I have quoted the statement that I was replying to, as it puts things in the proper perspective. I may not have been clear enough for those who wish to play at semantics, but I was providing information for the OP to prevent them from thinking that you can buy a gun at any gunshow and skirt the law as was implied by the other member. Most (thought about using "99% of booths" here, but to prevent lawyering over semantics again...) of the booths are businesses and FFLs, and they CANNOT legally sell you a firearm without a background check. Private sales do happen, but are seldom involved with a booth at the gunshow.

I said that the loophole was a myth, and you said the loophole term was disingenuous. Same difference if you aren't splitting hairs. What I said was not disingenuous when viewed in context with the comment that I was replying to. I wasn't going into all the finer points that are irrelevant to the original question of the thread.

Fair enough. We're on the same side here. I just know that I see private sales take place at gun shows all the time(back when I went). But we are the patron state of shootin stuff so maybe it's just more common in TN. Yeehaw.

@Outbound sorry we hijacked your thread. Anytime guns are mentioned we get excited.
