Had my brother 3D print me a cover plate for my K&N intake filter housing. His printer isn't big enough for the overall dimensions needed, which is why the edges don't mate up at the top corners. Doesn't bother me though since there's still enough overlap of the two pieces to create a seal. The gaps also act as a recess to aid in lifting the cover when needed, so I'll call it a feature. I may add some sort of gasket later to ensure it's sealed 100%. Now, the housing has only one inlet utilizing the factory intake fender cutout.

Front glass on. Had the underside sprayed with bed liner for added strength and durability. Need to come up with a new fender liner and something to guard the inlet for the intake from our PNW climate.

    Bedsides next.

I have an idea for this. Easier on yours since you have double layers of areas. Hotrod louvers like I did work well

Good idea. Tricky part is finding one that’ll cover the entire inlet in that triangular area. I have some foam that’ll I’ll use temporarily while I see if I can find or 3D print something that fits.

Bought a large one cut it down to fit and then blacked it out. Old pic for reference

Clean! I have an idea if I can’t find the right louver or mesh to work with. Looks like there’s plenty of circular vents I could use that’ll fit with some creative mounting.

My not-so-elegant-but-works-for-now solution for the exposed intake inlet. I used the factory intake box snorkel and cut it down to lay flat against the sheet metal. This allows me to wrap the snorkel with a pre-filter to block the elements when needed. It's a direct shot into the intake box. Won't do much for blocking rocks and other stuff from collecting within the two walls, but I'll probably add something there to shield it temporarily.

Finally took the truck out to the dunes for a quick run to see how it does as it's been. All I'll say is LSK needs to hurry up and release a race kit.

A couple photos from the day but no videos. I guess I need a GoPro too. lol

Bumper is close to being done. Just needs the bash plate and some black steel-it and then it's on its way to me.

Looks killer! Does it affect any sensors? Looks like the cut is low enough that at least some don't need to relocate?

Also, what catch can setup did you settle on? Looks like there is an additional can with AN fittings that wasn't in your last post about a diy setup?

I already took out my sensors but they'd have to be relocated if I wanted to use them. The other can is from HPS.

Gotcha. Do you get a bunch of errors when driving? Running 3 cans?

No errors. 3 cans but the single PCV can is really the only one that catches anything.

Bumper was sprayed and the aluminum plate was cut out. Just needs a little more dry time.

Thanks! It was close to $2K raw and after shipping. Add a couple hundred if you want it powder coated. You likely won’t be able to get one made from him unless he’s got your truck or has another one whose owner doesn’t mind them using it to build off of since he builds them as one-offs. I got lucky with the latter.

Parts pile is piling again. Winter boredom in full effect.

Remote trans cooler project is underway. Trying not to obstruct the radiator any more than I already have. I could fit it behind the grill with some creativity, but I decided to mount it to the backside of the bash plate and have the fan pull air. Bar and fins will be protected with a stainless mesh screen. This is a semi-permanent location until this truck gets a bed cage.

Cutout done and trans cooler bolted up to the plate. May add some additional bracing later but it feels sturdy enough to hold up to my driving style. Just waiting on some mesh and deciding if I should leave it as is or paint it all black.

Mesh screen riveted on. Just waiting on a couple AN fittings and then just a little plumbing to complete this project.

    Screenshot 2024-12-10 at 7.39.27 PM.png

    12/25/24.
Painted with black Steel-It for a more subdued appearance. Also, got all the parts I need to install and plumb the trans cooler behind the mesh screen but been busy with work and Holidays. Might wait until the snow/ice storm hits and need a project to stay busy at home.

Finally making some progress on the trans cooler. Decided to ditch the bash plate idea and mount in the bed on the chase rack. This allows me to use the larger 25 row unit from Derale.

    IMG_7503.jpg
    IMG_7499.jpg

Rather than cutting a large square out from the upright, I used 3/4" spacers to net a gap of 1.5" between the cooler and upright. Seems to allow plenty of air flow with the fan pulling air. If I need more, I can swap out for larger spacers.

    IMG_7501.jpg
    IMG_7502.jpg

All that's left to do is the plumbing and wiring up the fan switch. Plan is to use the Improved Racing thermostat and bypass the radiator to make this a stand-alone system.

Awesome build man. I would love to build something like this. Do you leave the chase rack in full time? Seems like a big unit to be moving around.

    Appreciate that!

The rack stays in full time. It's a bit over-built in my opinion (weighs 100lbs bare), but it was designed to be modular so the user could configure it however they wanted to with whatever gear they carry. The alternative would be a more simple tube design. I've moved the chase rack in and out several times now and have a good process to do it alone.

When I can't sleep, I hang out in the garage looking for small projects. This time it was mounting the Scangauge onto the 3D printed sPOD cradle. Used some brackets and hardware I had laying around and this was the result. Beats using an ugly suction cup mount.
