    Hey guy's,

I just installed a full system upgrade but kept the OEM radio.
It was working fine for about a week and this morning when i started the truck, no more volume.
The radio turns on, I see the screen, the bluetooth music is diplayed, but when I twist volume up or down, there is nothing that comes up on the screen and no sound.

The steering wheel controls also don't have any affect on this.

I heard that these OEM JBL radio's shit the bed every now and then.. Is this the symptoms that others have had as well?

Did you lose power to your amp? Check your fuses.

It's not volume on the phone. Even FM radio, CD etc.. All sources are the same.

I installed two amps, all new door components, dash speakers, a sub box, a rockford DSR1.
Everything worked for a week and this morning, the radio doesnt show volume or allow bass, treble, mid and fader adjustments.

I unplugged the truck battery for 5 mins and re-connected it and the volume is now back and sound is working again. However the settings for (front - rear, bass, treble, mid) is not adjustable anymore.
This OEM radio is just so so bad...
    Any ideas?

Thought the close to 6K I spent in audio upgrades was going to be enough, but it's starting to look like no matter what, I will have to change the factory radio :/

I don't have the JBL system so can't confirm this, but I've heard that the factory amp did a lot of that processing. Not sure why it would look fine for a week and then shit the bed though if that were the case. I'd pony up a little more money and dump the factory HU.

jebus......you have a parts list of everything you installed?

since its across all the sources, i would think somethings up with the dsr1. did you do the install yourself?

Nothing wrong with wanting to keep the stock head unit. If the OP wants to get rid of his stock head unit, he's only out the cost of the dsr1. Not bad

It’s more of an accounting question than a philosophical debate. $6k... that’d be $1k in each door $1k for amp and $1k for subs?? That must be one hell of a system.

    CAD, not USD,
Tripple sound proofed entire cabin + closed cell foam, top end cables, Focal gear, JL Stealthbox, custom made Steel amp racks etc.
Not sure why you find it funny.

Probably had a shop do the install. For a full system overhaul, i bet it would cost $1500 in labor

Be careful with this. I've heard this can be the source of some issues with sound quality (not the issue you are having now).

I don’t know enough about the JBL system to be helpful but if I were you I’d get in touch with James Taylor as he is the resident expert on Tundra audio. I’d bet he has heard of this issue...

This explains a lot. $6k CAD is roughly $4.3k USD.

My understanding is all of these functions are controlled by the stock JBL amp system so if you removed the stock amp it would make sense you would lose all these functions. Not sure about the volume.

I know a lot of people place a new amp downstream of the JBL amp to try and get everything to play nice... Are you sure your stock amp has been removed?

Yup, did the install myself with a dsr1. Amp is sitting in my toolbox.

my question is: is this true across all sources since I believe each source has different programmable bass/treble/etc.

    No that isn't the case.
Everything worked for a week. All the factory radio settings worked, treble, bass etc..
I played with them to fine tune the sound.

So quick update... Went out in the truck turned the key and all settings work again.
Mind blown.. I think this HU has a mind of it's own. If this repeats itself I may just bite the bullet and replace it.

I have the JBL HU but aftermarket DSR-1/AMP/Speakers. About 10% if the time when I turn the truck on everything starts up as expected - amp has power, HU is up and running but no sound. When this happens there's no number displaced for the volume on the HU so I know it's the HU. If I restart the truck everything is fine.

The truck is a 2020? Take it to the dealer? If they give you sh*t because you changed the amp tell them to prove that it is the cause. You could just throw the stock amp back in and see if you get signal unless you cut the factory harnesses which in that case you shouldn’t have done that.

If you can swap the amp to test factory amp you will know about the HU. If the systems sound is back then I really think there is an issue with the Dsr1 I will check the status light on mine and confirm. Can you get to the Dsr1?

I would leave everything flat on the HU and make all your adjustments in the Perfect Tune app. The EQ in the DSR1 can do everything and more with regard to bass, treble, time alignment....
