So, bought a cable and cheap key off Amazon, then got Techstream up and running on my laptop. Tried to program the key last night, and found I do not have a master key registered for my truck. When I got it, the dealer only had one key. It was a used Acura dealer, and they contacted the previous owner who said he only had the one key. My key is kind of a brown color, like some of my interior. I know I can program the key fob, but, would seem I need a master key to be able to program a new key. Anyone had this issue? Is there a way to reprogram using Techstream, or am I up a creek and have to go to the Toyota dealer and pay up?
    :spending:

2009 SR5 DC is my truck. I had previously had an issue where I couldn't lock my tailgate, and found the last pin needed filing and now it works. Wondering if it's b/c the key I have is a valet key. What a pain in the ass...

I'd ask the dealer to take care of it. Keys are kind of necessary to use a vehicle.

My worry is it's been 6 months since I purchased it, and am slowly piecing this all together. My life philosophy is "Never hurts to ask." So may get all my facts together and give them a call. The used Acura dealer I bought the truck from is directly across the road from a Toyota dealer.

Called the Toyota dealer and it'd be $175 for a new master. So I sent a text to the guy that sold me the truck to see if they would step up and pay for it, since I cannot lock my tailgate or glove box with the key they gave me when I bought it. Just wish I would have figured it out before signing the papers.

Does the 175 include the remote too or just the key itself?

That is only for a new key. I cannot imagine what they would charge for a remote...

Yeah i was gonna say, if you need a remote, get one off eBay with this style and have the local locksmith do the programming, should charge you around $50-75

I got one of those flip keys off eBay and had it programmed by the dealer. It starts the truck but it then shuts off after a few seconds. Dealer told me there are only so many slots for programmed keys and that they would have to reprogram the whole truck. I called BS and walked away. Would really like to use it all the same. Any thoughts?

I will never buy a vehicle without 2 keys. If they don't have proper keys I make them put in writing that they will provide.

Do you have one of the original keys that came with the truck? When I was told by techstream to insert the master key I used my other set and it worked as it allowed me to program my eBay flip style key.

If you have a master key, you can erase all others in Techstream. If not, it's looking like you must go to a dealer and get a master reprogrammed. Still waiting to hear back from the dealer I bought my truck from to see if they can assist.
