You think there's a reason no other vehicle on the market has those?

If a door pocket overheats and breaks, how long is the truck going to be in the shop? Doesn’t matter though, all is good cause you have a warranty.

Is that actually a warmer? Did Toyota remove the actual cooler and is depending on a different system to cool it? Will this make the transmission fail?

Just make sure to remove any mods (quick release latch, super glide hinge, SaltyHero13 stickers) to the door pocket before going to the dealer.

I would comply, unfortunately my transmission over heated on the way back form Trader Joe's. In order to prevent my meat from spoiling I proceeded to grill it on the transmission. Road side BBQ is the best.

I'm sure the new turbo V6 will tow these 35 foot 10,000 lb trailers with ice cold transmission temps.

I personally plan to spend 80k on the new 22 TRD Pro trim and put fake a$$ Raptor lights all over it! :1up:

All older Toyotas used to have cubbies and "purses" in numerous spots to put your "stuff" in. Not trying to offend anyone as we thought of it as a compliment to the Japanese, but we used to call them "Jap" trays. "Jap" just happened to start with the same letter of the "stuff" that fits perfectly in these trays:thumbsup:

Well I made a run to Macon today (wanted to go to Bass Pro Shop) and my transmission did not implode. It functioned flawlessly. MPG’s were not great (14.6 avg). That’s not really that bad though for a truck probably a bit over 6000 lbs with 4:30 gears barreling down the interstate between 85-90 mph. Saw numerous vehicles on the side of the road with the hood up; none were Tundras. Go figure.

My 1st Gen has so much stuff squirrelled away in it. You'd never know it looking in the windows though, or even sitting in it for that matter. Every nook, cranny and little compartment has stuff in it.

I don’t know why anyone would ever question Toyota. They would never do anything to compromise their reliability and possibly leave you stranded, or resulting in a massive recall. I mean you don’t really need a working fuel pump, right?

Hear me out guys. So here's the thing...
Toyota may have just realized they overengineered the transmission after not receiving many (if any) complaints* and issuing no recalls on the transmission since 2007 when it was initially mated to the 5.7. In turn, they saw a cost saving option of leaving the cooler off. Not only does removing the cooler save them on the cost of the cooler, but its one less component to fail on the truck down the road too.
In conclusion, Pepe Silvia does in fact exist. Thank you.

That's beyond Engineering though. Mfg can test and verify parts after hundred of thousands of miles but make a supplier change last minute for many reasons.

Entune? (I know this doesn’t fit unreliability, but most agree it’s crap)

I’m just saying Toyota isn’t perfect and do make mistakes or follow the bean counters decisions.

Can't argue the fact entune is problematic BUT a lot can have to do with 3rd party. Toyota test, builds for what they know - then adapt to the future.

While entune had its issues from the get go, THEY had to cater to MANY different applications.

As later version HW/SW is released from tech companies, Toyota can do nothing but play catch-up to future problems.

Yeah I’m just saying Toyota isnt perfect*. While I’d want to have a real cooler, I agree with others that 99% of transmissions won’t fail as they’re just used to go to the grocery story.

*My basis for this statement - I’ve owned 2 tundras and had 1 transmission failure. So I’m 50/50 on working transmissions. The replacement in my old tundra also went out after I traded it in.

I had a 2008 Chevy Impala that my son ended up driving - replaced the tranny about 180k miles and the tranny went out again at 250k miles. Finally junked it and got him something else. Engine was rock solid. Was a damn good car.

No one is. My t-case started giving me issues at 3k and finally warrantied out at 8k.

Far fewer issues though on my Toyota vs our Domestic full size SUV.

Just trying to give a different perspective on "issues" for mentioned application's (entune).

I don’t do much heavy towing but I do a decent amount of long distance light towing. I am a little concerned about the lack of a transmission cooler but at the same time I don’t seeing it being a problem for me personally. When I tow I don’t go above 65 mph. The overwhelming majority of the friends/family make fun of how slow I am and most times would rather drive for that reason. Here in NY the average towing speed seems to be 75 mph +. I have drivers trying to run me off the road at 70 mph with no trailer in the right most lane. It’s insane in my opinion...

I feel that speed generates more heat and heat kills transmissions... So I just drive the way I see fit. Especially cause of the amount of the same people who comment on my snail pace while towing and even driving have had major transmission issues (all different manufacturers).

**I AM NOT TELLING ANYONE HOW TO DRIVE THEIR OWN VEHICLES**

I enjoy driving my vehicles very much but I like to baby them.

Wrt the complaints about Entune, I only remember seeing one thread of folks who had issues with the system (no, I'm not counting poor sound quality) and I thought it only affected one model year and Toyota had the fix will in hand with one software update done at the dealership. Compare that to Ram or GM before you start talking about how bad Toyota is.
