I’ve proven Toyota Engineers wrong on one occasion on the 2002 a340f transmission fluid level spec which states 2.1 quarts as a ‘drain and fill’ quantity. Its actually closer to 4.1 quarts +/-.

Called Toyota Corp 1-800# and spoke with an Engineer and he died on the 2.1 quart hill. He even consulted with another Engineer to make sure. This wrong spec could be the reason for some early transmission failures on the 1st Gen. Who knows?

What I do know: 4.1 drains out and 4.1 goes back in. Dip stick reads as it should. Confirmed with Toyota Stealer Techs, but Toyota Corp refuses to acknowledge the typo?

No, I mean if he'd been involved in designing the Tundra, it would still have a trans cooler.

Yeah, I get what you were saying...and spot on. Read between the lines on that one...;). This was in fact a bean counter decision.

If you say so. If Toyota bean counters weren't as focused on reliability as the rest of the corporation is, they wouldn't have the reputation they do

OP died in a transmission related fire on his way to a Dodge dealership to pick up the keys to a 2021 Rebel with air lift suspension and locking front diff. The ATF cooler transfer capacity is rated at 3000 joules per second.

Crankcase oil temperatures routinely exceed 300°F.

WOW!!! I get pulled away for a few hours and over 150 posts are made in yet ANOTHER transmission cooler thread?!?!? Did I miss the memo? Are we trying to break all records for :deadhorse:?????

I'm starting to think people are getting more heated about this than they do politics!

I disagree. The never ending mpg topic is the most beaten dead horse on this forum. That MPG thread has to be setting records for the longest running, most contributed to,, and most pointless thread ever created.

It technically can be called a cooler. It is actually a warmer. The trans has lines that have radiator fluid in them. So if the trans is hotter than the radiator fluid the radiator should help to cool the trans but this can't work very well IMO. So Toyota gets away with saying it has a cooler. It does not have a proper trans fluid to air cooler.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember Greg getting passionate in his black stone thread. And internet posts can be taken the wrong way. Can we go back to complaining about the low payload?

I tried hard to talk myself into an F250 diesel. Minimum price $73K + TTL for a King Ranch. Then I tried to talk myself into a 6.2L gas KR F250, then an F150, then an F150 hybrid. Got as low as $57k (not like I wanted) -$66k + TTL.
Got my 2021 Tundra 1794 edition for $50k + TTL. Just would not pay $16k more for the possibility of eventually wanting to tow 10000 pounds, maybe. Previous history with Toyota reliability sold me after my 3 week ordeal. Toyota won’t blow that off. #retirementtruck.
